Download or read book THE ARRANGEMENT AND EXPRESSION OF INTEGRATED VIRAL DNA SEQUENCES IN MOUSE CELLS TRANSFORMED BY SIMIAN VIRUS 40 written by MARY ANN RICARD BENDER and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: simplified in the cloned cell lines derived from the primary transformant. Many of the cell lines studied share several SV40 integration arrangements. The cloned lines have lost some viral arrangements found in the parent cells, and have acquired new arrangements. These results suggest that the SV40 integration patterns in some transformed cells are not stable due to secondary alterations of the original viral arrangement.

Book The Transformed Cell

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ivan Cameron
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 1981-01-01
  • ISBN : 0323162967
  • Pages : 452 pages

Download or read book The Transformed Cell written by Ivan Cameron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Transformed Cell deals with many of the differences that may exist between transformed cells and their normal counterparts. Topics covered range from malignancy and the cell surface to cell cycle regulation in normal and transformed cells; phenotypic expression of malignant transformation and its relationship to energy metabolism; and virus-induced transformation. The involvement of cyclic nucleotides in transformation is also discussed, together with intracellular pH and growth control in eukaryotic cells. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with a brief description of terminology and basic concepts relating to cancer cells, as well as some comments on tumorigenicity and cell transformation. The next two chapters explore the evidence for and against the possible correlation of in vivo tumorigenicity to in vitro changes in the cytoskeletal system; anchorage-dependent growth; plasminogen activator production; agglutinability by lectins; and cell surface and plasma membrane properties. The regulation of cell proliferation and the relationships between ion movement and energy metabolism in normal and transformed cells are then examined, along with the transformation of normal cells by infection with new genetic material from tumor viruses. The remaining chapters focus on selected cellular properties that have been purported to differ between the normal and transformed cell, with particular reference to cyclic nucleotides; polyamine metabolism; cell viscosity; mobility of cellular water; intracellular pH; and element concentration. This monograph will be of interest to biologists and medical practitioners devoted to understanding cancer cell biology and cancer therapy.

Book Comprehensive Virology 10

Download or read book Comprehensive Virology 10 written by H. Fraenkel-Conrat and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time seems ripe for a critical compendium of that segment of the biological universe we call viruses. Virology, as a science, having passed only recently through its descriptive phase of naming and num bering, has probably reached that stage at which relatively few new truly new-viruses will be discovered. Triggered by the intellectual probes and techniques of molecular biology, genetics, biochemical cytology, and high-resolution microscopy and spectroscopy, the field has experienced a genuine information explosion. Few serious attempts have been made to chronicle these events. This comprehensive series, which will comprise some 6000 pages in a total of about 22 volumes, represents a commitment by a large group of active investigators to analyze, digest, and expostulate on the great mass of data relating to viruses, much of which is now amorphous and disjointed, and scattered throughout a wide literature. In this way, we hope to place the entire field in perspective, and to develop an invaluable reference and sourcebook for researchers and students at all levels. This series is designed as a continuum that can be entered anywhere, but which also provides a logical progression of developing facts and integrated concepts.

Book Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses

Download or read book Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses written by Albert Kaplan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses is a collection of papers presented at the symposium on ""Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses"" held at Vanderbilt University on April 1-2, 1974. Contributors discuss the viral function(s) responsible for the transformation of the cells that are infected with oncogenic viruses, emphasizing the type of changes that characterize transformed cells and the regulatory mechanisms that are altered after malignant transformations. This volume is organized into 10 chapters and begins with an overview of DNA-containing tumor viruses, particularly Simian Virus 40 (SV40) and its mutants with DNA deletions, insertions, and duplications. The integration and transcription of adenovirus DNA is considered, along with the characteristics of temperature-sensitive mutants of these viruses. The reader is then introduced to the chemistry and biology of RNA-containing tumor viruses, which are useful reagents to study neoplastic transformation both in vivo and in vitro. A major aspect of these viruses concerns the analysis of their genome at the chemical and genetic levels. The last part of the book is devoted to biochemical and genetic analyses of endogenous viruses isolated from avian cells. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and investigators in fields such as pathology, molecular virology, molecular biology, microbiology, oncology, and biochemistry.

Book Mechanisms of Cellular Transformation by Carcinogenic Agents

Download or read book Mechanisms of Cellular Transformation by Carcinogenic Agents written by Dezider Grunberger and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1987 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. In the past five years the two major areas of cellular transformation and tumorigenesis, chemical and physical tumorigenesis on the one hand and the investigation of tumor viruses on the other, have undergone extraordinary unification. This is mainly due to the discovery that the mechanisms of transformation are closely related. In both cases agents act via a limited number of proto-oncogenes. This volume brings together reviews from both areas, giving exceptional insight into the past and future work that has been explained and stimulated by this new framework.
