Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armstrong Family History: A Brief Genealogy of the Armstrongs from United Kingdom to America. As Malcolm Gladwell says, "Who we are cannot be separated from where we're from." Genealogy is a duty. The day we were born or the day we bore children ourselves, we gained a responsibility of passing along our history. We are responsible for the knowledge of our parents and of our grandparents and all the wisdom that comes with this knowledge. Our duty, therefore, includes our children's heritage-including the names and faces of their forefathers and mothers, the medical history and genetic backgrounds of their blood lines, the princes and the paupers, the photographs and historical areas and properties, the tragedies and the joys. Much of history was passed down orally until it was recorded (sometimes much later) in writing. Truths and fiction become intertwined. The following is a brief analysis of a family history. Much more research is required to not only solidify these accounts, but to add to this amazing heritage. Much is legend at this point. I urge all to continue to correct and add to these lines to assure an accurate account of this family.

Book First Man

Download or read book First Man written by James R. Hansen and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 20, 1969, the world stood still to watch American astronaut Neil A. Armstrong become the first person ever to step on the surface of another heavenly body. Upon his return to Earth, Armstrong was celebrated for his monumental achievement. He was also--as NASA historian Hansen reveals in this authorized biography--misunderstood. Armstrong's accomplishments as an engineer, a test pilot, and an astronaut have long been a matter of record, but Hansen's access to private documents and unpublished sources and his interviews with more than 125 subjects (including more than fifty hours with Armstrong himself) yield the first in-depth analysis of this elusive, reluctant hero.

Book excerpt: This is the story of James, John, and Hamilton Armstrong, three sons of a yeoman farmer living on the Pennsylvania frontier at the outset of the American Revolution. James and John joined the Continental Army in 1776, rose from the ranks to become officers, and served until the army was disbanded in 1783. Hamilton remained home to work the farm, protect the family, and serve in militia and “ranger” units to defend the frontier from repeated attacks from hostile Indian tribes. Their combined wartime experiences encompassed almost the totality of the American Revolution, from Canada in the north to South Carolina in the south and along the western frontier. James and John fought in most of the major battles of the revolution, including Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Guilford Courthouse, Eutaw Springs, and Yorktown, where they distinguished themselves in the eyes of generals like the Marquis de Lafayette, Mad Anthony Wayne, Light- Horse Harry Lee, Nathanael Greene, and George Washington.

Book The Scottish Migration to Ulster in the Reign of James I

Download or read book The Scottish Migration to Ulster in the Reign of James I written by M. Perceval-Maxwell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1973, the emphasis of this study is on the Scottish settlers during the first quarter of the 17th Century. It shows that the ‘Plantation’, although a milestone in Ireland’s past is also of considerable importance in Scotland’s history. The society that produced Scottish settlers is examined and the reasons why they left their homeland analysed. The book explains what effect the Scottish migration had upon both Ireland and Scotland and assesses the extent to which James I was personally involved in the promotion of the ‘Plantation’ scheme.
