Book Apollo in the Age of Aquarius

Download or read book Apollo in the Age of Aquarius written by Neil M. Maher and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Eugene M. Emme Astronautical Literature Award A Bloomberg View Must-Read Book of the Year A Choice Outstanding Academic Title of the Year “A substance-rich, original on every page exploration of how the space program interacted with the environmental movement, and also with the peace and ‘Whole Earth’ movements of the 1960s.” —Tyler Cowen, Marginal Revolution The summer of 1969 saw astronauts land on the moon for the first time and hippie hordes descend on Woodstock. This lively and original account of the space race makes the case that the conjunction of these two era-defining events was not entirely coincidental. With its lavishly funded mandate to put a man on the moon, the Apollo mission promised to reinvigorate a country that had lost its way. But a new breed of activists denounced it as a colossal waste of resources needed to solve pressing problems at home. Neil Maher reveals that there were actually unexpected synergies between the space program and the budding environmental, feminist and civil rights movements as photos from space galvanized environmentalists, women challenged the astronauts’ boys club and NASA’s engineers helped tackle inner city housing problems. Against a backdrop of Saturn V moonshots and Neil Armstrong’s giant leap for mankind, Apollo in the Age of Aquarius brings the cultural politics of the space race back down to planet Earth. “As a child in the 1960s, I was aware of both NASA’s achievements and social unrest, but unaware of the clashes between those two historical currents. Maher [captures] the maelstrom of the 1960s and 1970s as it collided with NASA’s program for human spaceflight.” —George Zamka, Colonel USMC (Ret.) and former NASA astronaut “NASA and Woodstock may now seem polarized, but this illuminating, original chronicle...traces multiple crosscurrents between them.” —Nature

Book The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ

Download or read book The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ written by Levi Dowling and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This visionary text professes to tell the complete story of Jesus' life, including the "lost" years, during which he traveled and studied in Tibet, Egypt, India, Persia, and Greece. First published in 1908, this mystical work is the cornerstone of a Christian denomination, the Aquarian Christine Church Universal, and it offers intriguing, controversial assertions about Christ's message. Jesus was conceived by a human father, author Levi Dowling states, and by effort and prayer rendered himself a fit vessel for "the Christ" — the model for human existence and ultimate salvation. Dowling, who devoted forty years of preparation to the task of transcribing this volume's contents from original Akashic records, further asserts the reality of reincarnation and its culmination in the perfection of the human soul. Tracing Jesus' life from his birth in Bethlehem to his ascension from the Mount of Olives, Dowling offers complete details concerning the savior's years among monks, wise men, and seers throughout the Orient. Readers with an interest in occult lore and the history of religion will find this remarkable volume a source of endless fascination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps there is no other individual of any prominence in the history of religion about whom so many differences exist as about Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph. In The Jesus Christ Chronicles, Wazir Kooloo shares a comprehensive examination of the negative Islamic schools of thought about Jesus while analyzing past mistakes and answering long-held questions. While relying on the verses within the Holy Quran as a starting point, Kooloo takes spiritual seekers on a journey that delves into the unknown true facts surrounding Mother Mary, her parents, and her initiation into the services of the Temple; the historical account of Jesus pilgrimage to India; and the Prophets journey to Mount of Olives where He is told He must suffer great persecution for the honor of God. Kooloo follows the story of Jesus life to 33 ADa time in history that many biblical scholars refer to as the Year of the Passion of Christ, when an event unraveled that changed the course of religious history forever. The Jesus Christ Chronicles utilizes well-researched facts as it shares a fresh perspective on religion, philosophy, and reality.

Book The Doctor Who Discontinuity Guide

Download or read book The Doctor Who Discontinuity Guide written by Paul Cornell and published by Gateway. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it was originally published, the Discontinuity Guide was the first attempt to bring together all of the various fictional information seen in BBC TV's DOCTOR WHO, and then present it in a coherent narrative. Often copied but never matched, this is the perfect guide to the 'classic' Doctors. Fulffs, goofs, double entendres, fashion victims, technobabble, dialogue disasters: these are just some of the headings under which every story in the Doctor's first twenty-seven years of his career is analysed. Despite its humorous tone, the book has a serious purpose. Apart from drawing attention to the errors and absurdities that are among the most loveable features of DOCTOR WHO, this reference book provides a complete analysis of the story-by-story creation of the Doctor Who Universe. One sample story, Pyramids of Mars, yields the following gems: TECHNOBABBLE: a crytonic particle accelerator, a relative continuum stabiliser, and triobiphysics. DIALOGUE TRIUMPHS: 'I'm a Time Lord... You don't understand the implications. I'm not a human being. I walk in eternity.' CONTINUITY: the doctor is about 750 years old at this point, and has apparently aged 300 years since Tomb of the Cybermen. He ages about another 300 years between this story and the seventh' Doctor's Time and the Rani. An absolute must for every Doctor Who fan, this new edition of the classic reference guide has not been updated at all for the 50th anniversary.

Book From Left to Right

Download or read book From Left to Right written by Nancy Sinkoff and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intellectual biography of Holocaust historian Lucy S. Dawidowicz. From Left to Right: Lucy S. Dawidowicz, the New York Intellectuals, and the Politics of Jewish History is the first comprehensive biography of Dawidowicz (1915–1990), a pioneer historian in the field that is now called Holocaust studies. Dawidowicz was a household name in the postwar years, not only because of her scholarship but also due to her political views. Dawidowicz, like many other New York intellectuals, was a youthful communist, became an FDR democrat midcentury, and later championed neoconservatism. Nancy Sinkoff argues that Dawidowicz’s rightward shift emerged out of living in prewar Poland, watching the Holocaust unfold from New York City, and working with displaced persons in postwar Germany. Based on over forty-five archival collections, From Left to Right chronicles Dawidowicz’s life as a window into the major events and issues of twentieth-century Jewish life.

Book The Chronicles of Sekhmet on Olmecra Book 2

Download or read book The Chronicles of Sekhmet on Olmecra Book 2 written by indigo ptah and published by indigo ptah. This book was released on 2022-09-21 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Ancient Lands of Kemet, Goddess Sekhmet is a Legendary Lioness-Woman. In the chronicles, the famous lioness-woman NTR is tasked with raising the vibrational energies of humans... on a specific part of Earth called Olmecra. And unless there is an elevation in vibrations; Earth will not ascend with the other planets in its galaxy. The Matriarchy of the Kemetic Pantheon and Cosmic Goddesses, are the protagonist of the book; displaying their best nurturing attributes. The story is being told from a divine feminine perspective in a way Goddess Sekhmet is not traditionally typified. For those who study the Ancient Egyptians and/or Kemet; metaphors will develop into myth. And for those who are new to the subject matter; the interaction of the immortals with humans will encourage readers to seek what is seeking them. This novella is unique in that few stories are dedicated to the African Cosmic Pantheon as compared to books popularized by Greek and Roman mythology. Book Two is the second of a series of seven novellas that chronicle how the Goddess Sekhmet assists humans to help Earth ascend. In Book One, three exceptionally conscious women face individual crisis situations. And to the surprise of themselves and their community; they gain the gift to transform into a lioness-woman to balance out their circumstances. Another exceptional woman takes their signal to begin a new purpose quest to assist with Earth's ascension. The main antagonist, status quo of patriarchy; in the form of selfish systematic supremacy; attempts to progress its parasitic programming practices by spreading fear; and eating away at natural energy resources on the planet... and beyond. But the forces of nature get more involved in Earth's evolution. As an exceptional man embraces his animal spirit to provide and protect the path of the lioness-women. Book Two continues the chronicles in Book One with immortal conversations; and early background on how and why Olmecra was formed. The stories may seem controversial to some; but are non-confrontational. And the story-lines are never meant to make accusation of anyone or any group of people. But rather; what is emphasized is the misuse of spirituality; and the decline of the human condition. As the author evolves the chronicles; she hopes the concept of "Personal Agency" is encouraged, so the reader expands their thoughts, on their individual journey; and how their purpose fits in the Universe.
