Book The APS Beam Transfer Line from Linac to Booster Synchrotron

Download or read book The APS Beam Transfer Line from Linac to Booster Synchrotron written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this note, the authors describe the recently designed APS beam transport system to the booster synchrotron. Another transfer system which guides the beam from the booster to the storage ring is described and therefore it will not be treated here. The system of interest consists of two parts; the transfer line LTOA from the injector linac to the positron accumulator ring (PAR) and the transfer line ATOB from the accumulator ring to booster synchrotron. For the design, they assumed that the rms transverse emittance of the linac output beam is about 1.1 mm mrad at 450 MeV and the energy spread is ± 1%. The plan view of the designed beam transfer line is given.

Book Beam Transfer Lines for the AGS Alternating Gradient Synchrotron Booster

Download or read book Beam Transfer Lines for the AGS Alternating Gradient Synchrotron Booster written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The injection lines for the proton and heavy ion beam injection into the Booster and a beam transfer line from the Booster to the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) are described here. The proton injection line is from the 200 MeV linac and the heavy ion injection line is from the present beam transport line of the Tandem Van de Graaff. The beam transfer line is for transporting the accelerated beam from the Booster to the AGS. Also included in the discussion is a method of extraction from the Booster and injection into the AGS.

Book The APS Booster Synchrotron

Download or read book The APS Booster Synchrotron written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) was constructed to provide a large user community with intense and high brightness synchrotron radiation at x-ray wavelengths. A 7-GeV positron beam is used to generate this light. Acceleration of the beam from 450 MeV to 7 GeV is accomplished at a 2-Hz repetition rate by the booster synchrotron. Commissioning of the booster began in the second quarter of 1994 and continued on into early 1995. The booster is now routinely used to provide beam for the commissioning of the APS storage ring. Reported here are our commissioning and operational experiences with the booster synchrotron.

Book First Results of Proton Injection Commissioning of the AGS Booster Synchrotron

Download or read book First Results of Proton Injection Commissioning of the AGS Booster Synchrotron written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam performance for the injection phase of proton beam commissioning of the AGS Booster synchrotron will be presented. The beam from the 200 MeV Linac is transported through a new beam line into the Booster. This Linac-to Booster (LTB) beam line includes a 126° bend and brings the injected beam onto the Booster injection orbit through the backleg of a main ring dipole magnet. Transfer of beam from the Linac to the Booster, spiralling beam and closing the orbit in the Booster ring are discussed. Injection and transport through one sector of the ring has been accomplished. 8 refs., 1 fig.

Book Automated Tuning of the Advanced Photon Source Booster Synchrotron

Download or read book Automated Tuning of the Advanced Photon Source Booster Synchrotron written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acceleration cycle of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) booster synchrotron is completed within 223 ms and is repeated at 2 Hz. Unless properly corrected, transverse and longitudinal injection errors can lead to inefficient booster performance. In order to simplify daily operation, automated tuning methods have been developed. Through the use of beam position monitor (BPM) reading, transfer line corrector magnets, magnet ramp timing, and empirically determined response functions, the injection process is optimized by correcting the first turn trajectory to the measured closed orbit. These tuning algorithms and their implementation are described here along with an evaluation of their performance.

Book Beam Loading Effects in the APS Booster

Download or read book Beam Loading Effects in the APS Booster written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam loading of the radio-frequency (rf) accelerating cavities is an important consideration in the design and operation of high-current circular particle accelerators and storage rings. The steady-state and transient perturbations of the rf cavity system by the circulating beam can be harmful to the beam and limit the accelerator performance. Transient beam loading effects have been observed soon after injection of the beam into the booster synchrotron of the Advanced Photon Source (APS). Data are presented quantifying the responses of both the beam and the rf cavities to beam loading under various conditions. A preliminary discussion addresses the compensation of these beam loading effects. 3 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.

Book Performance of the Diagnostics for NSLS II Linac Commissioning

Download or read book Performance of the Diagnostics for NSLS II Linac Commissioning written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is a state of the art 3-GeV third generation light source currently under construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The NSLS-II injection system consists of a 200 MeV linac, a 3-GeV booster synchrotron and associated transfer lines. The transfer lines not only provide a means to deliver the beam from one machine to another, they also provide a suite of diagnostics and utilities to measure the properties of the beam to be delivered. In this paper we discuss the suite of diagnostics that will be used to commission the NSLS-II linac and measure the beam properties. The linac to booster transfer line can measure the linac emittance with a three screens measurement or a quadrupole scan. Energy and energy spread are measured in a dispersive section. Total charge and charge uniformity are measured with wall current monitors in the linac and transformers in the transfer line. We show that the performance of the diagnostics in the transfer line will be sufficient to ensure the linac meets its specifications and provides a means of trouble shooting and studying the linac in future operation.
