Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1956 as part of the Cambridge Aeronautical Series, this book addresses the vital science of wing theory. Robinson and Laurmann record the historic developments in wing theory, including the work of Joukowski and Bernoulli, and discuss developments in supersonic flow and unsteady aerofoil theory. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the history of the science of flight.

Download or read book A Summary of Meteorological Conditions Associated with Aircraft Icing and a Proposed Method of Selecting Design Criterions for Ice protection Equipment written by Paul T. Hacker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on the meteorological parameters pertinent to the aircraft icing problem are so summarized as to give the frequency of occurrence of observed icing situations according to two of the parameters. The summarized data indicate that statistical relations exist between some of the parameters. A method, based upon the collection efficiency of an airfoil and the frequency occurrence of icing situations with various liquid-water contents and mean-effective droplet sizes, is proposed for the selection of design criterions for ice-protection equipment. The method provides a convenient means of calculating the percenteage of icing encounters in which the water collection exceeds the design rate.
Download or read book Collected Works of H S Tsien 1938 1956 written by Tsien H S and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. H. S. Tsien (also known as Dr. Qian Xuesen), is celebrated as the leader of the research that produced China's first ballistic missiles, its first satellite, and the Silkworm anti-ship missile. This volume collects the scientific works of Dr. H. S. Tsien (also known as Dr. Qian Xuesen) and his co-authors, which published between 1938-1956 when he was studying and working in the United States as a graduate student, scientist and professor, when aeronautic exploration stepped up from low speed to high speed regimes and astronautic technology entered its infant stage. The author is one of the most significant Chinese scientists in the past 70 years. Focuses on a series of key problems in aerodynamics, stability of shells, rocket ballistics and engine analyses. Collects Tsien's work as author and co-author from his time working in the US.
Download or read book Theoretical Prediction of Pressure Distributions on Nonlifting Airfoils at High Subsonic Speeds written by John R. Spreiter and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical pressure distributions on nonlifting circular-arc airfoils in two-dimensional flows with high subsonic free-stream velocity are found by determining approximate solutions, through an iteration process, of an integral equation for transonic flow proposed by Oswatitsch. The integral equation stems directly from the small disturbance theory for transonic flow. This method of analysis possesses the advantage of remaining in the physical, rather than hodograph, variables and can be applied to airfoils having curved surfaces. After discussion of the derivation of the integral equation and qualitative aspects of the solution, results of calculations carried out for circular-arc airfoils in flows with free-stream Mach numbers up to unity are described.
Download or read book A Method for Measuring the Product of Inertia and the Inclination of the Principal Longitudinal Axis of Inertia of an Airplane written by Robert W. Boucher and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angle of inclination of the principal axis was found to have probable error of plus or minus 0.17 degrees both from analysis of the error of inertia measurement of the full-scale airplane and from tests with a model having a simple configuration. Analysis showed the probable error of the inertia measurements for the test airplane to be plus or minus1.00, plus or minus 0.49, and plus or minus 0.35 percent of the true moment of inertia about the X, Y, and Z body reference axes, respectively.
