Book The Peptides

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eberhard Schröder
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2014-05-12
  • ISBN : 1483261727
  • Pages : 512 pages

Download or read book The Peptides written by Eberhard Schröder and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Peptides, Volume I: Methods of Peptide Synthesis focuses on detailed description of protecting groups, individual amino acids, and coupling reactions. The publication first offers information on amino-protecting and carboxyl-protecting groups, including carboxyl protection by salt formation, esterification, and amide formation and acyl-type, alkyl-type, and urethane protecting groups. The text then examines the formation of the peptide bond and amino acids. Discussions focus on amino acids with the alcoholic hydroxyl group, sulfur amino acids, basic and acidic amino acids, synthesis of peptides by activation of the amino group, and peptide synthesis by activation of the carboxyl group. The manuscript elaborates on the synthesis of cyclic peptides, depsipeptides, peptoids, and the plastein reaction. Topics include synthesis of plastein-active peptides, glycopeptides, phosphopeptides, and S-peptides. The publication is a dependable source of data for readers interested in the methods of peptide synthesis.

Book The Practice of Peptide Synthesis

Download or read book The Practice of Peptide Synthesis written by Miklos Bodanszky and published by Springer. This book was released on 1984 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the years 1980-81, as guests of the Deutsches Woll forschungsinstitut in Aachen, Germany, we were working on a small book entitled, "Principles of Peptide Synthesis". In the library of the Institute we noted that the volumes of Houben-Weyl's Handbuch der Organischen Chemie dealing with peptide synthesis were so much in use that they were ready to fall apart because the researchers of the Institute consulted them with amazing regularity. They were looking for references, but even more for experimental details which could be adapted to the particular problem they happened to face. In planning a new synthetic endeavor they tried to lean on the experience of others in analogous situations. This suggested to us that a smaller and hence more tractable book may be needed, a volume which can be kept on or near the bench to make examples of funda mental methods readily available in the laboratory. Such a collection could save numerous short trips to the library, a point particularly important where a library well equipped with the sources of the literature of peptide synthesis is not near at hand. Also, we thought that the envisaged book may be welcome by those who are more versed in English than in German. To our best knowledge no similar publi cation is available.

Book Amino Acids Insights and Roles in Heterocyclic Chemistry

Download or read book Amino Acids Insights and Roles in Heterocyclic Chemistry written by Zerong Wang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of a first-of-its-kind four-volume book set that provides readers with up-to-date information on α-amino acids, the potential challenges in working with α-amino acids, the protecting groups for the carboxyl, amino and side chain groups of the amino acids, and the most popular heterocyclic compounds that are originating from α-amino acids. These heterocyclic compounds include hydantoins, thiohydantoins (including 2-thiohydantoins, 4-thiohydantoins, 2,4-dithiohydantoins), 2,5-diketopiperazines, N-carboxyanhydrides, N-thiocarboxyanhydrides, sydnones, sydnonimines, azlactones, pseudoazlactones, and oxazolidin-5-ones. This is the first resource to comprehensively collect all the heterocycles that can be directly prepared from α-amino acids. In addition, almost all kinds of synthetic methods for a particular type of heterocycles from α-amino acids are included, along with the detailed mechanistic discussions and experimental procedures. Volume 1: Protecting Groups collects and discusses the 260 protecting groups relating to amino acids, which have been organized by carboxyl group, amino group, and side chain group. The conditions to introduce these protecting groups as well as their deprotecting procedures have also been incorporated, along with the physical properties, solvent effects, and temperature effects on the solubility of amino acids. It presents the solubility of glycine and phenylalanine in a variety of solvent systems to show the impact on amino acid, where glycine generally represents the polar amino acid whereas phenylalanine represents the amino acid of non-polar side chain. The other volumes include: Volume 2: Hydantoins, Thiohydantoins, and 2,5-Diketopiperazines Volume 3: N-Carboxyanhydrides, N-Thiocarboxyanhydrides, and Sydnones Volume 4: Azlactones and Oxazolidin-5-ones All together, this unique 4-volume set thoroughly covers the two types of heterocyclic compounds that are originated from alpha-amino acids, providing carefully compiled updated information with detailed examples. The author has shared many thoughtful insights based on his strong background in physical organic chemistry. The volumes will be highly valuable for graduate students and senior students, as well as for professors and researchers working in the field of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, organic chemistry, organic synthesis, heterocycles, and proteins and peptides.

Download or read book The World of Peptides written by Theodor Wieland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost two centuries ago proteins were recognized as the primary materials (proteios = primary) oflife, but the significance and wide role of peptides (from pepsis = digestion) in practically all life pro cesses has only become apparent in the last few decades. Biologi cally active peptides are now being discovered at rapid intervals in the brain and in other organs including the heart, in the skin of amphibians and many other tissues. Peptides and peptide-like compounds are found among toxins and antibiotics. It is unlikely that this process, an almost explosive broadening of the field, will come to a sudden halt. By now it is obvious that Nature has used the combination of a small to moderate number of amino acids to generate a great variety of agonists with specific and often highly sophisticated functions. Thus, peptide chemistry must be regarded as a discipline in its own right, a major branch of biochemistry, fairly separate from the chemistry of proteins. Because of the important role played by synthesis both in the study and in the practical preparation of peptides, their area can be considered as belonging to bio-organic chemistry as well. The already overwhelming and still increasing body of know ledge renders an account of the history of peptide chemistry more and more difficult. It appears therefore timely to look back, to take stock and to recall the important stages in the development of a new discipline.

Book General and Synthetic Methods

Download or read book General and Synthetic Methods written by G Pattenden and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.
