Book The Mystery of Garabandal

    Book Details:
  • Author : L. R. Walker
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2015-07-31
  • ISBN : 9780692297674
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book The Mystery of Garabandal written by L. R. Walker and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 1961, four young girls in the small Spanish village of Garabandal began falling into rigid trances, marching backward up hills, and seemingly levitating inches above the ground. In The Mystery of Garabandal, author LR Walker recounts the strange happenings that occurred when the four girls reported seeing, and receiving messages from, the Virgin Mary. The words of warning revealed a picture of the Roman Catholic Church crisis and an earth-shattering future that would unfold in the girls' lifetime. From the beginning, the young women were denounced as demon-possessed, frauds, or simply crazy. There were also those who believed that a group of girls in a remote society had conjured up a fantasy which, fueled by the spotlight and mounting frenzy, gained a frightening life of its own. While many people wanted to discount the events due to the disturbing nature of the visions and messages, not many have thoroughly examined the events of the time-or what has happened since. Including a conversation with one of the visionaries before she passed away in 2009, as well as an interview with an original eyewitness, Walker's book lays out the puzzling pieces and allows you to consider how it all fits together. Did a portal open between worlds on a Spanish mountaintop in that summer of 1961? And if so, who opened the door--an angel of God or an angel of darkness? Or did a young girl's flight of fancy one summer night spin wildly out of control? Now that the "girls" at the center of this drama are 60-year-old women, should their claims be discredited or re-examined? Are the apparitions bogus or fast-approaching their fulfillment? Fantasy or fraud? Ghost or God? Whatever you choose to believe, you won't soon forget this truly riveting spiritual enigma.

Book Encountering Mary

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sandra L. Zimdars-Swartz
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2014-07-14
  • ISBN : 1400861632
  • Pages : 359 pages

Download or read book Encountering Mary written by Sandra L. Zimdars-Swartz and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past two centuries hundreds of apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been reported, drawing crowds to the seers and the sites and constituting events of great religious significance for millions of people worldwide. Here Sandra Zimdars-Swartz provides a detective-like investigation of the experiences and interpretations of six major apparitions, including those at La Salette and Lourdes in France during the mid-nineteenth century; at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917; and the more recent ones at San Damiano, Italy; Garabandal, Spain; and Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, where the apparitions continue. Adopting a phenomenological approach to these "encounters with Mary"--one that is neither apologetic nor antagonistic--the author explores the tension between the personal meaning of the events for their subjects and the public appropriation of this meaning by a larger religious community. Along the way she examines the backgrounds of the seers, their willingness or reluctance to talk about the apparitions and their messages, the amount of emotional support they received from family and community as news of the apparitions spread, the reports of miracles at apparition sites, the reactions of local authorities, and the steps taken by the Roman Catholic Church in officially recognizing or rejecting the apparitions as worthy of belief. The author concludes with a survey of religious worldviews based on Marian apparitions, focusing especially on the now-popular transcultural apocalyptic nature of these messages to the modern world. A man sipping wine in a bar greets him, "Americano, you're late. A few years ago the foreigners poured through here to watch the strange reactions of four little girls who claimed visits from an angel and the Virgin Mary." Kelly samples the food and wine and moves on to Pamplona where avoiding being gored by the bulls chases away all thoughts of little levitated mountain girls. Back home he learns that the Vatican takes seriously the predictions of a future horrifying warning for everyone in the world, followed in the village by the greatest miracle in history at which the sick will be cured. Conchita confirms to a BBC interviewer, "that if the conditional punishment follows, it would be better that her children had never been born." The author returns the next summer and fourteen more times to live more than four years total in the area. He listens to eyewitness relive what they had seen and heard and felt during the apparitions and gets to know the visionaries. He shows how the attractive twenty-two year old Conchita is even more fascinating living incognito as "Maria" in Barcelona. In February 2018, the first movie on the happenings opened and has people all over Spain talking about Garabandal. The movie is projected to open in the U.S. before the end of the year. We are living in the end times

Book Our Lady of the Nations

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

  • ISBN : 0191028193
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book Our Lady of the Nations written by Chris Maunder and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-02-18 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Lady of the Nations is a detailed and scholarly overview of the apparitions of Mary in 20th-century Catholic Europe. Chris Maunder discusses apparitions in general and how they are interpreted in Catholicism by, for example, Karl Rahner and Benedict XVI. The role of women and children as visionaries is considered, including issues concerning changing views of gender, children's spirituality, and the protection of minors. He covers cases that are well known and approved by the Church (Fatima, Beauraing, Banneux, and Amsterdam), others that are well known but not approved (such as Garabandal and Medjugorje), and many that are neither well known nor approved, such as those in Belgian Flanders or Nazi Germany in the 1930s, or in France, Italy, or Germany after the Second World War. Resources include academic studies of particular apparitions, some Catholic theological and devotional literature, and occasionally travel writing. There is also coverage of material in French which is not known to the English reader. Shrines and visionaries are believed to be indicators of the presence of Mary. In the visionary perspective, she has appeared in order to reassure her followers and to warn of divine judgement. Her messages echo doctrinal Catholic Mariology with some innovations, but also express a deep dissatisfaction with the events and trends of the 20th century, from communism to Nazism to liberalism and religious indifference. While the Marian cult evolves according to new templates for apparitions and developments in Mariology, the fundamental message of presence, consolation, and admonition remains constant.

We were so close that we were inside the light which surrounded her, or rather, which radiated from her."--Lucia de Jesus There may be no person on the globe who knows more about the story of Fatima than Sr. Angela de Fatima Coelho. As a little girl growing up in Portugal, she used to pray at the tombs of Jacinta and Francisco Marto. Many years later as a sister of the Alianca de Santa Maria, she would become the postulator for their cause of canonization. This journey would lead her to visit with Sr. Lucia several times and eventually become the vice postulator for her cause as well. Sr. Angela brings this unique and privileged perspective to the story of Fatima, going beyond a chronicle of the events to the theological meaning of the Fatima message, as well as taking a deeper look at the lives and spiritualities of each of the three seers. Relying on her extensive research as a postulator advice postulator for their causes and on her own personal story touched early by suffering only to be healed by the embrace of Our Lady of Fatima, she helps readers discover the relevancy of this message for our post-modern world. For many years, Sr. Angela has traveled the world and spoken to thousands of people. Now, for the first time in print, she gives her profound testimony about Fatima. Her hope is that she may take each of us inside the light--the light that is God--that washed over the three shepherd children on that miraculous spring day in 1917.

"a statement or event that indicates a possible or impending danger, problem, or other unpleasant situation." The movement began with the heart of the poor and humble Hungarian mystic and Third-Order Carmelite, Elizabeth Kindelmann (1913-1985), when she heard the voices of Jesus and Mary through interior locutions between the years 1961 and 1983. The result is this Spiritual Diary, written at the request of Our Lord Jesus, which has received the Imprimatur of the Church and gifted the world untold blessings for our critical times.Jesus said to Kindelmann, "My Mother is Noah's Ark," and Mary told her, "I assure you, my little one, that I have never before given into your hands such a powerful force of grace, the burning flame of the love of my heart. Ever since the Word became Flesh, I have not undertaken a greater movement than the Flame of Love of my heart who rushes to you. Until now, nothing could blind Satan as much. And it is up to you not to reject it, for this rejection would simply spell disaster."The Flame of Love movement is an official Church association of the faithful, enjoying the heartfelt approval of His Eminence Cardinal Péter Erdö, Primate of Hungary, Archbishop of Eszertom-Budapest, and the approval of various bishops in whose dioceses it flourishes, as well as a 2013 apostolic blessing from Pope Francis.God is seeking to build up a holy army of souls in order help us to fight the battle ahead that leads to sure victory for those firm in faith. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the centuries and across the world, the Virgin Mary has appeared to ordinary people of every race and culture, from scholars to illiterates, from the devout to the unbelieving, from young children to the dying. In this exquisite and inspiring volume, Janice T. Connell chronicles authenticated Marian apparitions and messages Mary has brought from God--as mother, comforter, Queen of Angels, and Prophet of the Apocalypse. Drawn from scripture, legend, and never-before-published eyewitness accounts, these are personal stories--the author's own, and her interviews with other visionaries--filled with beauty, wonder, and joy. Meetings with Mary ranges from Elijah's vision of Mary eight hundred years before her birth to the world-famous children of Medjugorje in Bosnia, whose encounters with her began in 1981 and continue daily. Here also are lesser-known, deeply touching encounters with the Mother, from an office worker in Holland to a Japanese nun, from a Jewish banker in Rome to an awestruck crowd of visionaries, few of them Christians or of any other faith, in Egypt. Meetings with Mary asks also: as the millennium draws near, shadowed by disasters, disease, and brutal civil warfare, are Mary's frequent appearances a signal to the faithful? Perhaps she is calling us all to join her now on a voyage toward the eternal shores of peace, joy, and abiding love. . . . "[Connell is] passionate about prayer and sharing her love of Jesus' mother. . . . She has a way of simplifying complex theology." --Rocky Mountain News
