Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'm not the scum of the earth. Because five minutes of my life could never define who I am as a person and what I hope to achieve in life. My story is not meant to garner support for sick criminals who make no attempt to rejoin the society that has rejected them. However, there are those of us that are five, seven, ten, and in my case, fourteen years out from having a felony conviction. Yet I'm still being prosecuted for being too poor to own a home or pay rent reliably for stability purposes, so I face failure to register with authorities I don't even need to register with. To top it off, I'm considered a liar because they charged me with forgery. Who would you believe? A detective or a sex offender? There's always more to a story than just one perspective. I am someone's son, and I have four children of my own. I know life isn't fair, but what did my children do to deserve a father who's fired from job after job because of a past that wasn't their fault? Take a moment to ask yourself what you would do for your child. I've paid into social security from over thirty-five jobs. Imagine having to fill out hundreds of applications and listing over thirty-five jobs you got and then lost in a thirteen-year time frame. But my children are worth that and so much more. That's what this book means to me; it's not just a chance at failure, but a chance at real success for the first time in my life.

Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of The Vagina Monologues-a powerful, life-changing examination of abuse and atonement. “A triumph of artistry and empathy.” -Naomi Klein “A crucial step forward . . . This is an urgently needed book right now.” -Jane Fonda “Courageous, transformative, and yes-healing.” -Anne Lamott Like millions of women, Eve Ensler has been waiting much of her lifetime for an apology. Sexually and physically abused by her father, Eve has struggled her whole life from this betrayal, longing for an honest reckoning from a man who is long dead. After years of work as an anti-violence activist, she decided she would wait no longer; an apology could be imagined, by her, for her, to her. The Apology, written by Eve from her father's point of view in the words she longed to hear, attempts to transform the abuse she suffered with unflinching truthfulness, compassion, and an expansive vision for the future. Through The Apology Eve has set out to provide a new way for herself and a possible road for others, so that survivors of abuse may finally envision how to be free. She grapples with questions she has sought answers to since she first realized the impact of her father's abuse on her life: How do we offer a doorway rather than a locked cell? How do we move from humiliation to revelation, from curtailing behavior to changing it, from condemning perpetrators to calling them to reckoning? What will it take for abusers to genuinely apologize? Remarkable and original, The Apology is an acutely transformational look at how, from the wounds of sexual abuse, we can begin to re-emerge and heal. It is revolutionary, asking everything of each of us: courage, honesty, and forgiveness.

Book Family Therapy for Treating Trauma

Download or read book Family Therapy for Treating Trauma written by David R. Grove and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Abstract Family Therapy for Trauma: An Integrative Family Systems Treatment (IFAST-T) offers a stand-alone family therapy treatment approach for trauma, addressing a gap in the trauma treatment literature. The book outlines a flexible yet structured family therapy approach that can integrate intervention procedures from any of the evidence based manualized trauma treatments into a family treatment framework. We show how this flexibility offers great advantages for engaging trauma survivors and their families into treatment, who otherwise would not co-operate with standard trauma treatment approaches. We show how tracking and utilizing client and family frames in the organizing of treatment enhances both family engagement and the healing process in general. We show the role of family interactional patterns in the perpetuation of trauma symptoms and how changing these patterns leads to the resolution of trauma symptoms. We demonstrate how tracking and enlarging interactional exceptions plays a key role in overcoming problems related to trauma. For clients who are not interested in trauma treatment, we show how treatment focusing on whatever issue they are willing to address can simultaneously resolve their trauma symptoms"--

Book Policing Sexual Offences and Sex Offenders

Download or read book Policing Sexual Offences and Sex Offenders written by Terry Thomas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-13 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexual offending has become a mainstay item of reporting in our daily newspapers, and television news bulletins. This book offers an account of the policing of sexual offences and the difficulties that confront the police in the investigation of these intrusive crimes. It surveys the breath of sexual offences and examines the reporting of sexual crime and the attrition level that follows. It proceeds by critically assessing the efforts the police are making to overcome these difficulties and the degree to which they are making progress. The book outlines the relatively new police role of policing the convicted sex offenders themselves, who are living in the community and are subject to risk 'management' by the police and the requirements of the sex offender register held by the police. Written by a leading expert, this timely book will be of great interest to scholars of sexual offending and criminal justice.
