Book The Apocalypse Letter by Letter

Download or read book The Apocalypse Letter by Letter written by Steven Paul and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-03 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a dying man spends his last years writing a book, people often take notice. When the book claims to reveal the secrets of the Book of Revelation, even more interest is generated. The Apocalypse-Letter by Letter, by Steven Paul, has been described as "a masterpiece." In it, the author pens a series of letters to his brother-in-law to show how the Bible contains all the information a reader would need to decode the symbols, forms and sequence of events in the Apocalypse. Paul's literary genius is as fascinating as the subject is compelling. His unique knowledge of history, the Church, military strategy, literary forms, and wit and humor combine to take the reader on a tour of the Bible's most enigmatic book. After being diagnosed with cancer, the author sent a series of typewritten letters to his brother-in-law. Many of the letters included example passages handwritten in ancient Greek, to show how translators had often distorted the original meaning of the scripture. As Paul lay dying in a hospital bed, he gave instructions to his brother-in-law about how to assemble the information he had written into a book. Alas, he had only transmitted half of it when he passed away. Then handwritten notes were found near his manual typewriter and the brother-in-law spent the next many months entering the entire project into a computer along with the previously received letters.

Book The Apocalyptic Letter to the Galatians

Download or read book The Apocalyptic Letter to the Galatians written by James M. Scott and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One “apocalyptic” reading of Paul’s letter to the Galatians has been attempted before and is now widely accepted, but that reading is not based on a thorough engagement with Jewish apocalyptic traditions of the Second Temple period. In this book, James M. Scott argues that there is an essential continuity between Galatians and Paul’s Jewish past, and that Paul uses the apocalyptic Epistle of Enoch (1 Enoch 92–105) as a literary model for his own letter. Scott first contextualizes the Epistle of Enoch using the entire Enochic corpus and explores the extensive similarities (and some significant differences) between the Enochic tradition and early Stoicism. Then he turns to deal specifically with Paul’s letter to the Galatians, showing that, despite their obvious differences, the two apocalyptic letters have some remarkable features in common as well. This approach to the interpretation of Galatians fundamentally stands to change the way biblical scholars understand Paul’s letter and the gospel that he preached. Paul is “within Judaism,” if the net for what is included in “Judaism” is wide enough to encompass the Enochic tradition.

Book excerpt: Sometimes, churches need a little help. These days, some don't know who they are and don't know what they're supposed to be doing. Churches today are trying anything and everything to be effective, but are bewildered by worship styles, spectator syndrome, and consumerism. In the meantime, people are hungry for a relationship with a God who has substance--a God with character and integrity, and a God of grace. And they're having trouble finding such a God in churches today. Seven Letters to Seven Churches is written to challenge the church to be what God created us to be and then do what God created us to do: join Him in His mission to save the world.

Book American Values Religious Voices

Download or read book American Values Religious Voices written by Andrea L. Weiss and published by . This book was released on 2018-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, many Americans questioned how to respond to the results and the deep divisions in our country exposed by the campaign. Many people of faith turned to their religious communities for guidance and support. Many looked for ways to take action. In November 2016, biblical scholar Andrea L. Weiss and graphic designer Lisa M. Weinberger teamed up to create an innovative response: a national nonpartisan campaign that used letters and social media to highlight core American values connected to our diverse religious traditions. American Values, Religious Voices: 100 Days, 100 Letters is a collection of letters written by some of America's most accomplished and thoughtful scholars of religion during the first 100 days of the Trump presidency. While the letters are addressed to the president, vice president, and members of the 115th Congress and Trump administration, they speak to a broad audience of Americans looking for wisdom and encouragement at this tumultuous time in our nation's history. This unique volume assembles the 100 letters, plus four new supplemental essays and many of the graphic illustrations that enhanced the campaign. Published near the midway point of the Trump presidency, this book showcases a wide range of ancient sacred texts that pertain to our most pressing contemporary issues. At a time of great division in our country, this post-election project models how people of different backgrounds can listen to and learn from one another. The letters offer insight and inspiration, reminding us of the enduring values that make our nation great.

Book Hebrews the General Letters and Revelation

Download or read book Hebrews the General Letters and Revelation written by Charles B. Puskas and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most New Testament (NT) introductions, because of page limitations and other reasons, tend to minimize their treatment of the last nine books of the Christian Bible (from Hebrews to Revelation). The focus in these introductions is often on the four Gospels and the Letters of Paul. As important as these books are, one should not neglect, with only a brief survey, the treatment of Hebrews, the General Letters, and the book of Revelation. The title given later to the collection--Catholic Epistles or General Letters--is a reminder of its general appeal to the whole church, despite its slow "canonical" recognition and authorship issues. Nevertheless, these writings from Hebrews to Revelation continue to capture our attention and ignite our imagination. My purpose for this book is to supplement my NT introduction and others like it with a focus on specific questions about each book from Hebrews to Revelation: -When and why was each book written? -By whom and to whom was each book written? -What are some special features of each book? -How soon (or late) was each book included in the NT collection? Answers to many of these questions are tentative. The "assured results of scholarship" are in continual need of reevaluation. Since the 1980s a host of diverse studies have emerged, and I have endeavored to include them when they are relevant to the discussion.

Amid the blasted rubble of a once-perfect suburb, a hazmat-suited postman delivers the mail, aloud. He shouts his letters down a vent to the bunker-bound family below. They describe the family's prosperous past life, and then get stranger and stranger... Drawn by the famed cartoonish and Charlie Hebdo contributor Gébé, and never before available in English, Letter to Survivors is a blackhearted delight, a scathing, impassioned send-up of consumerist excess and nuclear peril: funnier—and scarier—than ever.

Book The Formation of the Pauline Corpus of Letters

Download or read book The Formation of the Pauline Corpus of Letters written by C. Leslie Mitton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-29 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know a good deal about the life of the Apostle Paul, and are also reasonably well-informed about the circumstances connected with the writing of his letters. Concerning, however, the collecting of those letters together--how, why, when and where this was done--we are curiously ignorant. The conventional answer has been that it happened gradually, as an almost inevitable, imperceptible process. The arguments, however, on which this answer is based, cannot claim to be conclusive, and in recent years two scholars in the United States have challenged the whole assumption. In this book Dr. Mitton presents both points of view and the arguments by which they are supported, and invites the reader to give consideration to the less familiar theory.
