Method: The sample was conducted in two private universities Cihan Erbil University and Knowledge University. Data collected from 189 responded full time lecturers of having at least three years working experience in their current position. Analyzed using descriptive analysis Reliability test and Pearson Correlation and regression test the relationship between variables. Finding: Indicated that there was a positive relationship between Job security, Financial Rewards, Empowerment and job satisfaction therefore supported the hypothesis, job security found the highest factor effect on job satisfaction during this research, financial rewards second highest effect on job satisfaction. Universities should take into account that academic staff plays an important roles, however university should provide a good environment and work conditions at universities to let the academic staff loyal and satisfy that will led to universities success.

Book excerpt: Work-related learning can be broadly seen to be concerned with all forms of education and training closely related to the daily work of (new) employees, and is increasingly playing a central role in the lives of individuals, groups or teams and the agenda’s of organizations. However, as this area of study becomes more prominent, debates have opened about the nature of the field, as well as about its configurations and effects. For example, some authors have a broad definition of WRL and define it as learning for work, at work and through work, ranging from formal, through semi-structured to informal learning. Others prefer to use the concept of WRL mainly in connection to informal, incidental learning processes during work, leading to competent workplace learners. Formal and informal learning are distinguished from each other with respect to the level of intention (implicit/non-intentional/incidental versus deliberative/intentional/structured). Another point of discussion originates from the different ‘theoretical backgrounds’ of the authors: the ‘learning theorists’ versus the ‘organizational theorists’. The first group is mainly interested in the question of how learning comes about; the second group is predominantly interested in the search for factors affecting learning.

The study was prompted by the chronic problem of academic staff job satisfaction in Makerere University since the 1970s with most lecturers not devoted to their jobs, striking for salaries, rampant absenteeism from work, poor attitude, late coming for work and leaving early, delayed handing in of marks, continuous complaints and high rates of turnover for greener pastures. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: to establish the relationship between employee involvement and job satisfaction of academic staff; to examine the relationship between work environment and job satisfaction of academic staff; to find out the relationship between remuneration and job satisfaction of academic staff and to establish the relationship between recognition and job satisfaction of academic staff. A correlational, cross-sectional survey design was used to carry out the study. A sample of 162 respondents was systematically selected to participate in the study. Data were collected with the use of questionnaires. Frequencies and percentages were used to show the distribution of respondents on different items. Correlation and multiple regression were used to establish the relationships between the variables. The study findings empirically revealed that; employee involvement (r = 0.397 & p = 0.000); work environment (r = 0.525 & p = 0.000); remuneration (r = 0.389 & p = 0.000) and recognition (r = 0.362 & p = 0.000) have a positive significant relationship with job satisfaction. The study concluded that quality of work life enhances job satisfaction. Therefore, the researcher recommended that Makerere University management should involve academics when developing or revising the goals and objectives of the institution through workshops, so that suggestions of staff can form part of the development process, thus enabling successful implementation. Secondly, Makerere University should focus create a conducive working environment with adequate and relevant educational facilities alongside improved working relations and friendly employee policy. Thirdly, Makerere University should enhance the remuneration (e.g. fringe benefits, bonus payments) made to the academic staff in order to raise their job satisfaction levels.

Universities create and cultivate knowledge for the sake of building a modern world. The academic staff is the key resource within higher education institutions. A positive and healthy university structure results in increased academic staff's job satisfaction and better job motivation. According to this, the main purpose of this research was to investigate the possible relationship between job motivation and job satisfaction among academic staff. The Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) and Job Motivation Questionnaire (JMQ) were administered to a sample of 100 (50 males and 50 females) university employees. The results indicated that the academic staff was highly motivated with their job. At the same time the results showed that academicians were more satisfied with their salary, co-workers, promotion, operating procedures and supervision, but dissatisfied with fringe benefits, contingent rewards, nature of work and communication. This research offers practical suggestions to the educational institutions and human resource managers on how to pay, promote, retain and maintain equity in the universities. Book excerpt: The biggest challenge faced by Human Resources Managers in tertiary institutions in trying to execute staff recruitment and retention strategies, is the employment of reward and motivation techniques that build job satisfaction and high commitment to excellent performance. Much debate exists on whether job satisfaction has effects on commitment levels among academic staff. Deductive reasoning was adopted for this research project utilising Herzberg's two factor theory to fully understand and explain the effects of job satisfaction on organisational commitment amongst academics. The results of the study showed that a greater proportion of the academic staff was not satisfied with their jobs with reasons for dissatisfaction including interalia high volume of work, inadequate salaries, allowances and unclear advancement opportunities. The findings of the study also indicated a significant relationship between job satisfaction and organisational commitment. There is, therefore, a need to craft a responsive incentive package that addresses the concerns of academic staff on issues related to job satisfaction and thus stave off turnover and lack of commitment.
