Book Traces of the Ann Arbor Railroad

Download or read book Traces of the Ann Arbor Railroad written by D. C. Jesse Burkhardt and published by America Through Time. This book was released on 2021-02-22 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring 150 photographs, maps, and postcards, Traces of the Ann Arbor Railroad chronicles vital aspects of this unique railroad's history, with a primary focus on what has transpired from the 1960s to 2020. The book's pages reflect on the years (1963-1973) the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton controlled the Ann Arbor Railroad, which served shippers along a 292-mile mainline almost entirely in Michigan (the AA operated several miles in northern Ohio); the demise of the AA's Lake Michigan car ferries; the new carriers that have sprung up to handle operations on the former Ann Arbor line in the wake of the company's bankruptcy in 1973; the disposition of the fleet of ten new GP35s that were delivered to the Ann Arbor direct from the factory in 1964; and the new Ann Arbor, a shortline operating between Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio, that was created out of the remains of the old Annie. The final chapter highlights the 22-mile Betsie Valley Trail between Elberta-Frankfort and Thompsonville, a rails-to-trails corridor that opened in 2005 along an abandoned segment of the historic Ann Arbor Railroad.

Book The Railfan Chronicles Ann Arbor Railroad Volume 2 1981 To 2000

Download or read book The Railfan Chronicles Ann Arbor Railroad Volume 2 1981 To 2000 written by Byron Babbish and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Railfan Chronicles is a series of books about different railroads during the period from 1975 to 2000. This was a period of great change in the railroad industry, with mergers of large railroads and creation of regional and short line railroads to operate unwanted lines of the Class One railroads. These books will cover this period in photographs taken by the author. This is Volume 2 of our coverage of the Ann Arbor Railroad, looking at its operations from Toledo, Ohio across Michigan between the years 1981 and 2000. During this period of time the State of Michigan owned the Annie and its operator changed from Michigan Interstate Railroad Company to Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railway. Its northern end was abandoned and the Lake Michigan Carferry operations stopped. The evolution of the Ann Arbor Railroad during this period is shown in both color and black and white photographs.
