Book Chemical Analysis Of Silicate Rocks

Download or read book Chemical Analysis Of Silicate Rocks written by A Easton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Analysis of Silicate Rocks is the sixth book in the series, “Methods in Geochemistry and Geophysics. This book provides procedures in chemical analysis of the principal types of silicate rocks and minerals, and it discusses each procedure at length. The book presents different apparatuses and reagents, such as balance and weighs, glassware and porcelain, platinum and substitutes, and filters that are used in the chemical analysis of silicate rocks. Laboratory instruments, such as pH meters, spectrophotometers and flame photometers, are presented in the third chapter. The fourth chapter focuses on the major factors in spectrophotometric methods. The next three chapters cover the common operations in silicate analysis, chemical analysis of silicate rocks, and preparation of the laboratory sample. From chapter eight through 20, each chapter discusses various silicate rocks and minerals, and presents the methods to be used for their chemical analysis. These chemical components are silicon, total iron, titanium, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, ferrous iron, manganese, chromium, alkalies, water and carbon dioxide, phosphorus, and total sulfur. Chapters 21 and 22 offer the formulas of minerals and the determination of specific gravity. The book closes by providing notes on the precision and accuracy of results obtained in silicate rock.

Book Reservoir Quality of Clastic and Carbonate Rocks

Download or read book Reservoir Quality of Clastic and Carbonate Rocks written by P.J. Armitage and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-06-18 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir quality is studied using a wide range of similar techniques in both sandstones and carbonates. Sandstone and carbonate reservoir quality both benefit from the study of modern analogues and experiments, but modelling approaches are currently quite different for these two types of reservoirs. There are many common controls on sandstone and carbonate reservoir quality, but also distinct differences due primarily to mineralogy. Numerous controversies remain including the question of oil inhibition, the key control on pressure solution and geochemical flux of material to or from reservoirs. This collection of papers contains case-study-based examples of sandstone and carbonate reservoir quality prediction as well as modern analogue, outcrop analogue, modelling and advanced analytical approaches.

Book The Determination of Combustible Matter in Silicate and Carbonate Rocks Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Determination of Combustible Matter in Silicate and Carbonate Rocks Chemists of the Bureau of Mines in the course of an investigation of methods of preventing explosions in coal mines by the use of rock dust had to determine accurately small percentages of combustible matter (organic carbon and organic hydrogen) in clay, shale, lime stone, and other rocks for use in rock-dusting mines. Owing to the presence of combined water in shale and clay, and of carbon dioxide in carbonate rocks, the percentage of combustible matter in these materials can not be calculated from the loss on ignition, as is done in 'coal and other fuels containing a relatively small proportion of constituents that are incombustible; neither can the combustible be taken as the sum of the total carbon and hydrogen as obtained in the ordinary ultimate analysis, for in both these methods the organic matter is oxidized to water and carbon dioxide, simultaneously with the liberation of water and carbon dioxide from the hydrous silicates and inorganic carbonates in the rock. Therefore, special methods are required that will differentiate between the organic and the inorganic carbon and hydrogen.
