Book The Anaemic Leukaemic

Download or read book The Anaemic Leukaemic written by John Fee and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first half of the book explains that the treatment is a brutal regime, but there are light-hearted moments. In the second half of the book, the author describes what he learned about cancer such as what cancer is, the prevalence of cancer, the role of the pharmaceutical industry, and how cancer is treated in the West as compared to complementary therapies in the East. He asks ‘Why me?’ and discovers physical, mental and spiritual reasons to explain why cancer decided to pay him a visit. The concept of miraculous or spontaneous remissions appears to be largely ignored by the medical profession but is a major interest to the author, along with other healing methods outside the Western orthodox model. The book finishes with a message of hope through the development of a ‘Simple Man’s Cancer Model’ which provides a framework for healing to take place based on personal experience, studying spontaneous healings, a large dose of common sense and a sprinkling of anecdotal evidence. The author suggests that certain changes need to take place within an individual for healing to occur. How the person makes those changes is a personal choice, as there are numerous healers, books, workshops and seminars where such information and healing can be obtained. The final chapter suggests that ‘Integrated Healthcare’ could be the next step forward and invites the reader to imagine and, more importantly, help to create a world without cancer.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 5

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 5 written by Dorairaj Prabhakaran and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and related conditions cause more than 40 percent of all deaths globally, and their substantial burden is rising, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Their burden extends well beyond health effects to include significant economic and societal consequences. Most of these conditions are related, share risk factors, and have common control measures at the clinical, population, and policy levels. Lives can be extended and improved when these diseases are prevented, detected, and managed. This volume summarizes current knowledge and presents evidence-based interventions that are effective, cost-effective, and scalable in LMICs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a comprehensive, state-of-the-art overview of the pathogenesis, treatment and treatment effects of chronic anaemia of cancer as well as chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-induced anaemia. It is the result of a joint effort by the members of the European School of Oncology (ESO) Task Force on Anaemia in Cancer and the participants of an ESO Symposium on this topic. negative prognostic factor for clinical outcome in cancer patients. In addition, there is evidence that tissue hypoxia contributes to the progression of malignant disease by inducing a more malignant phenotype, stimulating angiogenesis within tumour tissues, and diminishing the sensitivity of tumour cells to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. traditional treatment for anaemia - the transfusion of red blood cells - has significant limitations. This situation has changed dramatically with the introduction of recombinant human erythropoietin, which acts as an important physiological stimulator of human erythropoiesis. The beneficial effects of erythropoietin markedly exceed those of transfusions. Erythropoietin can lead to complete, long-term normalization of anaemia which in turn results in a significant improvement in anaemic cancer patients' quality of life and physical exercise capacity.

Download or read book Fanconi Anemia written by ... Schindler-Hoehn and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare genetic disease discovered 80 years ago by Guido Fanconi, an eminent Swiss pediatrician. It is characterized by short stature, skeletal anomalies, increased incidence of solid tumors and leukemias, bone marrow failure and cellular sensitivity to DNA damaging agents. Following a historical account, exemplary case reports and the current status of FA genes and their mutations, this volume discusses neoplasia in FA as well as current approaches to pre- and postnatal diagnosis. Further topics include revertant mosaicism as a kind of 'natural gene therapy' and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as the only curative approach in FA. The final chapters investigate evolutionary aspects of the FA genes with special emphasis on the avian genome and the involvement of FA genes in recombinational types of DNA repair. Physicians and researchers in the fields of pediatrics, hematology, cancer, genetics, DNA repair and aging will benefit from understanding this disease, which illustrates the complex network of genomic maintenance systems that protect us from cancer and premature aging.

This affects a wide spectrum of research and practice, anywhere from basic research to health care organization. Core examples of these close associations are addressed in this book. Starting with basic research, the first chapters cover cancer development, mTOR inhibition, senescent cells altering the tumor microenvironment, and immune senescence affecting cancer vaccine response. Taking into account the multidisciplinarity of geriatric oncology, several chapters focus on geriatric and oncologic aspects in patient assessment, treatment options, nursing and exercise programs. The book is rounded off by a discussion on the impact of the metabolic syndrome illustrating the interactions between comorbidity and cancer and a chapter on frailty. This book provides the reader with insights that will hopefully foster his or her reflection in their own research and practice to further the development of this most exciting field. Given the aging of the population worldwide and the high prevalence of cancer, it is essential reading not only for oncologists and geriatricians but for all health practitioners.
