While I do not wish to imply that these agents have been undervalued, it seems to me that sufficient account has not been taken of the mechanical conditions which so often determine their usefulness. When we consider What a wonderful system of checks and balances is pre sented by the vaso-motor function we are prepared to appreciate on the one hand what may be the effect of a local derange ment of this function, and on the other the possibilities Opened to us by our thera peutie resources.
