Hundreds of persons were obliged to turn away, not being able to find even standing-room within sound of the speakers' voices. It is the locality which is linked with the healthful efficacy of water the world over - Sara-toga. In the county of that name, not far from the spot where the most decisive battle of the Revolution was fought, the first organization for arresting the drinking custom by a pledge was established just seventy years ago. In the borough of Saratoga Springs a national convention (held in 1835) placed the movement on the impregnable basis of total abstinence.
