Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first in The Wolf Chronicles trilogy, brilliantly weaving together original research, lovable characters and a dynamic, thoroughly engaging plot, Promise of the Wolves is a historical adventure story in the tradition of Clan of the Cave Bear and Watership Down. Set 14,000 years ago in what is now Southern Europe, Promise of the Wolves is told from the point of view of Kaala, a young wolf born of a forbidden, mixed-blood litter. An outcast after her mother is exiled, Kaala struggles to earn her place in her pack. But her world is turned upside down when she rescues a human girl from drowning. Kaala and her young packmates begin hunting and playing with humans—risking expulsion from their pack and banishment from their home in the Wide Valley. When war between humans and wolves threatens, Kaala learns that she is the last in a long line of wolves charged with keeping watch over humans in order to prevent them from losing touch with nature and thus destroying the world. But to do so she must solve the great paradox of wolfkind: though wolves must always be with humans, humans cannot abide the presence of wolves, and every time the two come together, war ensues. Kaala must choose between safety for herself, her friends, and their human companions and the survival of her pack—and perhaps all of wolf and humankind.

Book Dorothy

Download or read book Dorothy written by Vincent Begley and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2002-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The day after seeing The Wizard of Oz in a movie theater, I went out and bought a copy of the book. I devoured it in one sitting, and was convinced that as wonderful as the movie was, the book was better still. I identified with Dorothy because both of us were orphans. She was sent out to Kansas to live with Em and Henry, and I was adopted by a couple from Brooklyn. And while I was always curious about who my birth parents were, I didn't do anything about it until I was married with three children. That's when I jumped on the yellow brick road and embarked on a search for my birth parents. (My story was published in the book Missing Links - The True Story of an Adoptee's Search for his Birth parents.) I mentioned Dorothy in my book, and subsequently used her journey in Oz as an analogy for the adoptee in search of his/her birth parents when I was invited to speak to adoption groups. "What," I often wondered, "ever happened to Dorothy when she grew up? And how did she get to Kansas in the first place?" I answered my own question in a book. Two books, for that matter: Dorothy - Looking for a Rainbow, a novel for young adults written in the third person covering Dorothy's life from shortly before her birth to the day she leaves her Kansas farm and goes out to find her own yellow brick road. And the other book, Dorothy - This Side of the Rainbow, written in the first person as a memoir covering Dorothy's entire life. Both books attempt to bring the character of Dorothy to life. Both books try to create a strong female character, one who can become a role model for, not only young women, but young men as well. The Dorothy that I created doesn't live in Oz. She lives in the real world during a real time in American History. (My Dorothy was born in 1878.) I aimed for historical accuracy. There are many actual events and real people in both of the Dorothy stories because I wanted Dorothy to be a part of "our" history. On one level my Dorothy stories are historical adventure stories in the tradition of Little House on the Prairie, Little Women, and Sarah, Plain and Tall. But the two books exist on a number of different levels, too. Both are personal search stories that unite actualization and spirituality. Both offer a parallel between the events in Oz and their possible origin in the real world. Both offer readers a chance to rekindle their own childhood and rediscover cherished memories of what it was like to dream.

Book Contact with Beings of Light

Download or read book Contact with Beings of Light written by Peter Guttilla and published by Timeless Voyager Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contact With Beings of Light is truly an amazing tale of Dorothy Wilkinson-Izatt. Using an ordinary 8 mm movie camera she has filmed hundreds of sequences of unexplained, yet authenticated, pictures of UFOs, ETs, and anamolies.Dorothy Izatt is without peer anywhere on record in the world, even when compared to today's tabloid media with its endless loops of bizarre video footage from various places and people. Aside from the fact that electronically simulated video images aren't as yielding to analysis as the images in film photography, the obvious difference is that the footage derives from multiple sources. With Dorothy we have a credible, trustworthy, prolific source in one location - or in any location anywhere she chooses - willing to demonstrate the process for an observer. The author, Peter Guttilla has spent years sifting through photographs, movies, and taped interviews with Dorothy to produce an exceptional glimpse into her lifes work.

Book The Wonderful World of Oz

Download or read book The Wonderful World of Oz written by L. Frank Baum and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1998-08-01 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fully annotated volume collects three of Baum's fourteen Oz novels in which he developed his utopian vision and which garnered an immense and loyal following. The Wizard of Oz (1900) introduces Dorothy, who arrives from Kansas and meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and a host of other characters. The Emerald City of Oz (1910) finds Dorothy, Aunt Em, and Uncle Henry coming to Oz just as the wicked Nome King is plotting to conquer its people. In Baum's final novel, Glinda of Oz (1920), Dorothy and Princess Ozma try to prevent a battle between the Skeezers and the Flatheads. Tapping into a deeply rooted desire in himself and his loyal readers to live in a peaceful country which values the sharing of talents and gifts, Baum's imaginative creation, like all great utopian literature, holds out the possibility for change.
