Download or read book The Alphabet of Avoidance written by Lisa Borden and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2013-08-02 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's equally as important to avoid the bad than it is to buy the good. The Alphabet of Avoidance will change your perspective. It will make you more informed. It will convince you to get rid of bad habits. It will inspire you to develop new habits. It will give you the resources to make the changes easily. It will save you time and money. And your health. It might just change the world. If you think about it, you'll realize that the world we live in is actually encouraging us to consume more in order to reduce our impact. Buy green. Try this. Throw this out. Never use that. Replace it now. Nope, that was wrong, now do this. Maybe you find it all stressful, maybe you find it overwhelming, but don't write off living healthier and smarter. It is absolutely worth buying into the green movement, and, it's just as important to know what to avoid.

Download or read book Avoiding and Enforcing Repetitive Structures in Words written by Mike Müller and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2014-12-15 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Avoiding and enforcing repetitions in words are central topics in the area of combinatorics on words, with first results going back to the beginning of the 20th century. The results presented in this thesis extend and enrich the existing theory concerning the presence and absence of repetitive structures in words. In the first part the question whether such structures necessarily appear in infinite words over a finite alphabet is investigated. In particular, avoidability questions of patterns whose repetitive structure is disguised by the application of a permutation are studied. The second part deals with equations on words that enforce a certain repetitive structure involving involutions in their solution set. A generalisation of the classical equations u^l = v^mw^n that were studied by Lyndon and Schützenberger is analysed. The last part considers the influence of the shuffle operation on square-free words and related avoidability questions.

Download or read book Avoiding Data Pitfalls written by Ben Jones and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Avoid data blunders and create truly useful visualizations Avoiding Data Pitfalls is a reputation-saving handbook for those who work with data, designed to help you avoid the all-too-common blunders that occur in data analysis, visualization, and presentation. Plenty of data tools exist, along with plenty of books that tell you how to use them—but unless you truly understand how to work with data, each of these tools can ultimately mislead and cause costly mistakes. This book walks you step by step through the full data visualization process, from calculation and analysis through accurate, useful presentation. Common blunders are explored in depth to show you how they arise, how they have become so common, and how you can avoid them from the outset. Then and only then can you take advantage of the wealth of tools that are out there—in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, the right tools can cut down on the time, labor, and myriad decisions that go into each and every data presentation. Workers in almost every industry are now commonly expected to effectively analyze and present data, even with little or no formal training. There are many pitfalls—some might say chasms—in the process, and no one wants to be the source of a data error that costs money or even lives. This book provides a full walk-through of the process to help you ensure a truly useful result. Delve into the "data-reality gap" that grows with our dependence on data Learn how the right tools can streamline the visualization process Avoid common mistakes in data analysis, visualization, and presentation Create and present clear, accurate, effective data visualizations To err is human, but in today's data-driven world, the stakes can be high and the mistakes costly. Don't rely on "catching" mistakes, avoid them from the outset with the expert instruction in Avoiding Data Pitfalls.
