Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Air National Guard's role within the Air Force has matured and changed enormously since its establishment as a separate reserve component September 18, 1947. Air National Guard members have served around the world and their military experience and civilian skills have proven invaluable as our nation prosecuted conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. They also served during several major contingencies including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Berlin Crisis if 1961 and 1962. In addition, Air Guard members made major contributions in a host of other operations in Panama, the Balkans, Somalia, Rwanda, Haiti, and the Iraq no-fly zones instituted after Operation Desert Strom. In the United States, the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts brought into sharp focus the Air Guard's well-established role as America's hometown Air Force. The Air National Guard flew over 3,000 sorties, moved over 30,000 passengers, and hauled over 11,000 tons of desperately needed supplies into Gulf Coast airfields, some of which Guard personnel opened and operated. Air National Guard members rescued 1,443 people--heroically saving people stranded by the flood. At eight sites along the Gulf Coast, Air National Guard medical units treated more than 15,000 patients, combining expert medical care with compassion.

Book Aim High

Download or read book Aim High written by MSgt Tuebe'd Tzidid and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1965, war was on simmer, and buddies were getting drafted or going into the safer Air Force, Navy, or Coast Guard rather than the more combatant Army and Marine Corps. I'm seventy-five. Had I had the opportunity to do it again, I'd go as a noncombatant combat photographer or broadcaster for AFN wherever in the world I was sent. That's another story. Aim High took years to write. I retired in 1992 and started writing this in 1999. Finally, all dressed up with a copyright from the Library of Congress, I did some serious procrastination. Solicited reviews were mixed, as was the body of friends. Thirty-five percent were never in the military. Those who were in uniform from the '60s to '90s are biting at the chomp to read the sequel, We Don't Do That on This Ward.

Book Twenty Percent Soldiers Our Secret Life in the National Guard

Download or read book Twenty Percent Soldiers Our Secret Life in the National Guard written by Kevin Dellicker and published by Koehler Books. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ". . . a poignant reminder that our freedom still depends on 'twenty-percent soldiers' who volunteer to protect and defend our nation when duty calls." -Tom Ridge, 43rd Governor of Pennsylvania, First US Secretary of Homeland Security The National Guard and Reserves is comprised of remarkable men and women who work behind the scenes as our nation's supplemental fighting force. It's a part-time job with a full-time commitment that involves the entire family. They wear the same uniforms and train to the same standards as America's full-time military. And when called to service, they fight right alongside the active duty. Nobody knows the difference. Yet they are very different. Twenty-Percent Soldiers is the true account of one couple's life in the National Guard through eighteen years of part-time warfare. With humor and humility, Kevin and Susan Dellicker portray what it's like to jump back and forth between having a "normal" civilian life in small-town Pennsylvania and conducting special operations missions in Southwest Asia. A tribute to all the part-time soldiers and their families who have been fighting the Global War on Terrorism since 9/11, this story is also a call-to-action for politicians and military leaders to fix a broken family support system that is failing the part-time force. Twenty-Percent Soldiers reinforces a truth that all Americans can embrace: With perseverance, love and faith, ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things.

This unholy threat wears a woman's face and wields dark energies capable of destroying normal men. But Poe hasn't been normal in years. The Order saw to that. Poe is scarred. Poe is transformed. Book Strengthening U S Air Force Human Capital Management

Download or read book Strengthening U S Air Force Human Capital Management written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The USAir Force human capital management (HCM) system is not easily defined or mapped. It affects virtually every part of the Air Force because workforce policies, procedures, and processes impact all offices and organizations that include Airmen and responsibilities and relationships change regularly. To ensure the readiness of Airmen to fulfill the mission of the Air Force, strategic approaches are developed and issued through guidance and actions of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management assesses and strengthens the various U.S. Air Force initiatives and programs working to improve person-job match and human capital management in coordinated support of optimal mission capability. This report considers the opportunities and challenges associated with related interests and needs across the USAF HCM system as a whole, and makes recommendations to inform improvements to USAF personnel selection and classification and other critical system components across career trajectories. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management offers the Air Force a strategic approach, across a connected HCM system, to develop 21st century human capital capabilities essential for the success of 21st century Airmen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Director and producer Tim Burton impresses audiences with stunning visuals, sinister fantasy worlds, and characters whose personalities are strange and yet familiar. Drawing inspiration from sources as varied as Lewis Carroll, Salvador Dalí, Washington Irving, and Dr. Seuss, Burton's creations frequently elicit both alarm and wonder. Whether crafting an offbeat animated feature, a box-office hit, a collection of short fiction, or an art exhibition, Burton pushes the envelope, and he has emerged as a powerful force in contemporary popular culture. In The Philosophy of Tim Burton, a distinguished group of scholars examines the philosophical underpinnings and significance of the director's oeuvre, investigating films such as Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), The Nightmare before Christmas (1993), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Big Fish (2003), Sweeney Todd (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and Dark Shadows (2012). The essays in this volume explore Burton's distinctive style, often disturbing content, and popular appeal through three thematic lenses: identity, views on authority, and aesthetic vision. Covering topics ranging from Burton's fascination with Victorian ideals, to his celebration of childhood, to his personal expression of the fantastic, the contributors highlight the filmmaker's peculiar narrative style and his use of unreal settings to prompt heightened awareness of the world we inhabit. The Philosophy of Tim Burton offers a penetrating and provocative look at one of Hollywood's most influential auteurs.

Download or read book The Enlisted Experience written by Office of Air Force History and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-02-19 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Enlisted Experience: A Conversation with the Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force offers a vivid, candid, and highly personal account of military life by four of the first five Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force. Their recollections, captured in a 1987 interview at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., cover a period of over thirty years-from the early 1940s to the late 1970s. The position of Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force (held by only ten individuals since its establishment in 1966) has given all enlisted service members a representative who has direct access to, and the ability to advise, the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force. It has also imparted to each of the interviewees broad and insightful perspectives on the issues discussed. The careers of the Chief Master Sergeants and the experiences that shaped them reveal that throughout its brief but eventful history the U.S. Air Force has been able to rely completely on the competence, dedication, and absolute professionalism of its enlisted force. Again and again, this force has met the host of challenges that have confronted it at home and around the globe: It tirelessly maintained the aircraft and supported the air crews of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam; it integrated its ranks and welcomed women as equals into the workplace; it has obtained a better quality of life for its members and their families; and it has pursued increasingly demanding education and training programs in fast-changing social and technological service milieus. The stories of the Chief Master Sergeants point to an essential fact: The service would be unable to carry out its missions successfully in a dangerous world without the genuine cooperation of a motivated enlisted corps. That the Air Force almost flawlessly achieved its objectives in Operation DESERT STORM is in no small measure the result of that corps' tradition of striving and excellence.
