Book The AFGL Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Absolute Gravity Measuring System A Final Report and Operating Maintenance Manual

Download or read book The AFGL Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Absolute Gravity Measuring System A Final Report and Operating Maintenance Manual written by R. L. Iliff and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multiyear program at the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL) has produced an instrument for absolute gravity measurements accurate to eight decimal places. This transportable instrument has been used to measure gravity at a calibration line through the central part of the United States, as well as at Hanscom AFB, Mass. The final version of the equipment is described. Data processing procedures, corrections applied, and the determination of these corrections are given. The report also gives operation and maintenance procedures for the apparatus. Also included in the report is a history of the development of the absolute-gravity measuring apparatus, including development of the first prototype instrument, experiments with an apparatus incorporating a falling chamber-within-a-chamber, the ideas behind this approach, and the shortcomings that caused a return to the single-chamber approach.

Book The AFGL Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Absolute Gravity System s Error Budget Revisted

Download or read book The AFGL Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Absolute Gravity System s Error Budget Revisted written by Robert L. Iliff and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The error budget for the absolute gravity measuring instrument has been reevaluated for the purpose of locating and correcting an apparent bias that appeared in the data at the gravity lab early in 1981. The results of this analysis reveal a major equipment-induced error and minor data reduction errors. Revised gravity values at various sites across the U.S. and Sevres, France are given along with values obtained with other instruments at collocated sites. Keywords: Absolute gravity; Gravity; Interferometer.

Book Absolute Gravity Measurements in the United States of America

Download or read book Absolute Gravity Measurements in the United States of America written by Iginio Marson and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measurements of gravity acceleration described in the report were performed in 1977 within a grant program sponsored by the US Air Force. The introductory part of the report illustrates the transportable absolute gravimeter and ancillary instrumentation used in measurements, and describes the measurement method applied; uncertainty and errors are analysed as well. Measurements of gravity acceleration made in Europe prior to the USA program are also briefly considered before a detailed account is given of the measurements made in the USA. The numerous tables in the text and at the end of the report form an essential part of it. Six stations were observed in the USA and approximately 100 measurements made per station. The results show an overall uncertainty in g measurements.

Book Some Comments on the Charged Particle Technique for Measuring Absolute Gravity

Download or read book Some Comments on the Charged Particle Technique for Measuring Absolute Gravity written by James A. Hammond and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comments are made on several possible sources of systematic error inherent in the charged particle technique of measuring absolute gravity. It is shown that the effects of air flow and electric fields are potentially large enough that the difficulty of eliminating or measuring the effects forces the conclusion that the charged particle technique is not applicable in a practical sense to the measurement of absolute gravity at this time.
