Book Effects of Two Leading edge Modifications on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Thin Low aspect ratio Delta Wing at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Effects of Two Leading edge Modifications on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Thin Low aspect ratio Delta Wing at Transonic Speeds written by John P. Mugler and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in the Langley 8-foot transonic tunnel to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of a thin 60 degree delta wing with two leading-edge modifications (conical leading-edge camber and leading-edge droop) in combination with bodies with and without body indentation in accordance with the transonic-area-rule concept. The tests covered a Mach number range from 060 to 1.15 and an angle-of-attack range from -4 to 20 degrees at a Reynolds number of about 3,000,000 based on the wing mean aerodynamic chord. The wing had an aspect ratio of 2.31, a taper ratio of 0, and, without modifications, had NACA 65A003 airfoil sections parallel to the model plane of symmetry.

This book was released on 1968 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure, heat transfer, force, flow field surveys and flow visualization measurements on an inclined cone were obtained in a wind tunnel at a nominal Mach number of 6. Force measurements were also obtained for a 2/3 power law body and two ducted-cone configurations.

Book The Subsonic Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Airplane Model Having a Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 3

Download or read book The Subsonic Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Airplane Model Having a Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 3 written by Howard F. Savage and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of vertical-tail location and size on the subsonic aerodynamic characteristics of a model having a triangular wing. The wing had an aspect ratio of 3, an NACA 0003.5-63 section in the streamwise direction, and plain, trailing-edge ailerons. The wing was attached to the fuselage in either a mid or high position and an unswept horizontal tail was located on the fuselage center line. Two vertical tails were tested which had areas of 26.7 or 20.3 percent of the wing area. Each vertical tail was equipped with a rudder and had a geometric aspect ratio of 1.5, a taper ratio of 0.16, and 54 degrees of sweepback of the leading edge. Each vertical tail was tested at two different tail lengths. The wind-tunnel tests were conducted at a Reynolds number of 2.5 milMon at Mach numbers from 0.25 to 0.95.

Book An Introduction to Flapping Wing Aerodynamics

Download or read book An Introduction to Flapping Wing Aerodynamics written by Wei Shyy and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an ideal book for graduate students and researchers interested in the aerodynamics, structural dynamics and flight dynamics of small birds, bats and insects, as well as of micro air vehicles (MAVs), which present some of the richest problems intersecting science and engineering. The agility and spectacular flight performance of natural flyers, thanks to their flexible, deformable wing structures, as well as to outstanding wing, tail and body coordination, is particularly significant. To design and build MAVs with performance comparable to natural flyers, it is essential that natural flyers' combined flexible structural dynamics and aerodynamics are adequately understood. The primary focus of this book is to address the recent developments in flapping wing aerodynamics. This book extends the work presented in Aerodynamics of Low Reynolds Number Flyers (Shyy et al. 2008).

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of 2 3 and 4 Caliber Tangent ogive Cylinders with Nose Bluffness Ratios of 0 00 0 25 0 50 and 0 75 at Mach Numbers from 0 6 to 4 0

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of 2 3 and 4 Caliber Tangent ogive Cylinders with Nose Bluffness Ratios of 0 00 0 25 0 50 and 0 75 at Mach Numbers from 0 6 to 4 0 written by Carroll B. Butler and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes wind tunnel test data on various body alone configurations which provide a data matrix for bluff and pointed bodies of revolution with systematic variations in nose bluffness, nose fineness ratio, and cylinder afterbody fineness ratio. Modular model components were used to obtain static stability and drag data, with emphasis on the effect of nose bluffness on drag. Although data is included for tangent ogive noses of fineness ratio 2, 2.25, 2.5, 3.0, and 4, the nose fineness ratios of 2, 3, and 4 calibers include a systematic variation in nose bluffness ratios of 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 on cylindrical midsections of 5, 7, 9, and 11 calibers. A 1-caliber cylindrical afterbody is used with all configurations in this report.

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two dimensional Wing Configurations at Angles of Attack Near 90 Deg

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two dimensional Wing Configurations at Angles of Attack Near 90 Deg written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel tests were conducted to determine the drag og two-dimensional wing sections operating in a near-vertical flow condition. Various leading-and trailing-edge configurations, including plain flaps of 25, 30, and 35% chord were tested at angles of attack from-75 to -105deg. Reynolds numbers examined ranged from approximately 0.6 to 1.4 million. The data were obtained using a wind tunnel force and moment balance system and arrays of chordwise pressure orifices. The results showed that significant reductions in drag, beyond what would be expected by virtue of the decreased frontal area, were obtainable with geometries that delayed flow separation. Rapid changes in drag with angle of attack were noted for many configurations. The results, however, were fairly insensitive to Reynolds number variations. Drag values computed from the pressure data generally agreed with the force data within 2%.
