This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book distinguished theorist and author Shelby D. Hunt analyzes the major controversies in the "philosophy debates" raging throughout the field of marketing. Using an historical approach, Hunt argues against relativism and for scientific realism as a philosophy for guiding marketing research and theory. He also shows how the pursuit of truth and objectivity in marketing research are both possible and desirable. Specific controversies analyzed in the book include: Does positivism dominate marketing research? Does positivism imply quantitive methods? Is relativism an appropriate foundation for marketing research? Does relativism imply pluralism, tolerance, and openness? Should marketing pursue the goal of objective research? An ideal companion to Hunt's classic text, Foundations of Marketing Theory, this volume will be equally useful on its own in any graduate level course on marketing theory.

Book Controversies in Advertising

Download or read book Controversies in Advertising written by Lois Brofermaker and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When millions of dollars are on the line, the last thing a company wants to do is pull an ad campaign. Though some companies, such as Benetton, seek to be controversial, not all companies want their brands to be potentially perceived in a negative light. This thesis seeks to investigate the largely unexplored area of controversial advertising and provide insights into common reasons why an advertising campaign would be controversial. Through the aggregation and content analysis of pulled and protested advertising campaigns over the last ten years, and by highlighting notable examples of such, this thesis will show what to avoid if controversy is not the goal, and what kinds of campaigns resulted in controversy.

Book Commodity Activism

Download or read book Commodity Activism written by Roopali Mukherjee and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buying (RED) products—from Gap T-shirts to Apple—to fight AIDS. Drinking a “Caring Cup” of coffee at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to support fair trade. Driving a Toyota Prius to fight global warming. All these commonplace activities point to a central feature of contemporary culture: the most common way we participate in social activism is by buying something. Roopali Mukherjee and Sarah Banet-Weiser have gathered an exemplary group of scholars to explore this new landscape through a series of case studies of “commodity activism.” Drawing from television, film, consumer activist campaigns, and cultures of celebrity and corporate patronage, the essays take up examples such as the Dove “Real Beauty” campaign, sex positive retail activism, ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover, and Angelina Jolie as multinational celebrity missionary. Exploring the complexities embedded in contemporary political activism, Commodity Activism reveals the workings of power and resistance as well as citizenship and subjectivity in the neoliberal era. Refusing to simply position politics in opposition to consumerism, this collection teases out the relationships between material cultures and political subjectivities, arguing that activism may itself be transforming into a branded commodity.

However, controversy advertising hasn't been deeply explored, and its effectiveness and goal is unclear. Data for this research is gathered through secondary and primary research, including a literature review, an interview, and a survey where respondents were asked to react to two controversy advertisements. Between secondary and primary research, this study examines how controversy advertising impacts the way people view the advertiser and the social issue presented in the advertisement.
