Book Politically Incorrect Guide to the Middle East

Download or read book Politically Incorrect Guide to the Middle East written by Martin Sieff and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-01-28 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Middle East is almost never off the front pages, yet most Americans know little about the region. Why? The mainstream media and Ivy League academics, instead of helping, only make matters worse by casting everything in the usual politically correct mold: Arab terrorists are just desperate freedom fighters, and the region's one free democracy -- Israel -- is the oppressor, not least because of its alliance with America. And if Islamic extremism is a problem, the establishment tells us, it's only because it's rooted in that source of all evils: religion. A different strain of political correctness has seeped into some minds on the right -- most notably the Bush administration, which, so ready to buy into the egalitarian myths we are all taught, believed that Western-style democracy could flourish anywhere. Now, in The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Middle East, veteran Middle East correspondent Martin Sieff puts the lie to all these myths and clichés, giving you everything you need to know about the region to understand its past, its present, and its possible future.

Book The Story of Middle East Advertising

Download or read book The Story of Middle East Advertising written by Ramzi Raad and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For more than 50 years Ramzi Raad has been at the forefront of the advertising industry in the Middle East and North Africa. A regional pioneer, he graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1969 and spent the following 12 years helping to transform Intermarkets Advertising Agency into the first regional network, by establishing branches in Kuwait and Bahrain first, then in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Yemen. When the civil war erupted in Lebanon, Ramzi moved to Dubai in October 1975. In 1988, Ramzi was voted president of the UAE Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA). During his presidency the region's first advertising awards program was launched in 1990 and the IAA World Executive Committee members flew into Dubai to hold their first ever meeting out of their New York Headquarters. The chapter led large delegations to the IAA World Congresses in Chicago (1986), Sydney (1988) and Hamburg (1990); to Advista Arabia in Cairo (1989 and 1992); and to the Asian Advertising Congress in Lahore (1989). Ramzi held the post of IAA's World Vice President and Middle East Regional Director from 1990 to 1992. Ramzi helped establish (and became a board member of) the GCC Advertising Association, the Middle East Research Forum, and the Middle East Advertising Agencies Association. He has lectured on Arab Advertising in London, Zurich, Sydney, Lahore, Cairo, Bahrain, New Delhi, and Mexico, Ramzi also served as the Middle East consultant for the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (1988 to 2000). He also helped establish the Government of Dubai's Press Club and served as its consultant in 1999 and 2000. Ramzi established TBWA\RAAD in 2000 and went on to make it one of the most recognized communication groups in the region. Since 2009, Ramzi has been on Arabian Business' list of the "World's Most Powerful Arabs" and was named "Advertising Man of the Year" in 2010 by the Dubai Lynx. In March 2016, Ramzi was awarded the TBWA Founder Award in recognition of his passionate development of the TBWA brand in MENA since 1986." --Back cover.

Book Untangling the Middle East

Download or read book Untangling the Middle East written by Ori Z. Soltes and published by Skyhorse. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lucid and engaging breakdown of the history, culture, and politics that define today’s Middle East. Untangling the Middle East is a layman’s guide to the history—political, religious, and cultural—that led us to the current challenges plaguing the Middle East. It covers the major interests and actors in the region, and helps to spin a narrative of the evolution of violence and conflict in this age-old hotbed of unrest. There are no easy answers or simple explanations to be found here, only a clear-eyed and engaging recounting of the many factors that have brought this region to where it is today. Whether he is discussing the history of the Semitic peoples or the birth of Islam in the region, Soltes brings insight and much needed context to the people, places, and things that make up the inheritance of today’s Middle East. He possesses the historian’s appreciation for detail and the teacher’s knack for fashioning coherence out of complex material. This book should be a go-to resource for a solid foundation in understanding the Middle East and a bulwark against the disinformation regarding this region that is often found on cable television or in speeches on the campaign trail. The Middle East may be a mess but it need not be a mystery, with the help of this indispensable guide.
