Book excerpt: EDGE: The Agile Operating Model That Will Help You Successfully Execute Your Digital Transformation “[The authors’] passion for technology allows them to recognize that for most enterprises in the 21st century, technology is THE business. This is what really separates the EDGE approach. It is a comprehensive operating model with technology at its core.” —From the Foreword by Heidi Musser, Executive Vice President and Principal Consultant, Leading Agile; retired, Vice President and CIO, USAA Maximum innovation happens at the edge of chaos: the messy, risky, and uncertain threshold between randomness and structure. Operating there is uncomfortable but it’s where organizations “invent the future.” EDGE is a set of fast, iterative, adaptive, lightweight, and value-driven tools to achieve digital transformation, and EDGE: Value-Driven Digital Transformation is your guide to using this operating model for innovation. Jim Highsmith is one of the world’s leading agile pioneers and a coauthor of the Agile Manifesto. He, Linda Luu, and David Robinson know from their vast in-the-trenches experience that sustainable digital transformation requires far more than adopting isolated agile practices or conventional portfolio management. This hard, indispensable work involves changing culture and mindset, and going beyond transforming the IT department. EDGE embraces an adaptive mindset in the face of market uncertainty, a visible, value-centered portfolio approach that encourages continual value linkages from vision to detailed initiatives, incremental funding that shifts as strategies evolve, collaborative decision-making, and better risk mitigation. This guide shows leaders how to use the breakthrough EDGE approach to go beyond incremental improvement in a world of exponential opportunities. Build an organization that adapts fast enough to thrive Clear away unnecessary governance processes, obsolete “command and control” leadership approaches, and slow budgeting/planning cycles Improve collaboration when major, fast-paced responses are necessary Continually optimize investment allocation and monitoring based on your vision and goals Register your product for convenient access to downloads, updates, and/or corrections as they become available. Book Image Processing of Edge and Surface Defects

Download or read book Image Processing of Edge and Surface Defects written by Roman Louban and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-16 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human ability to recognize objects on various backgrounds is amazing. Many times, industrial image processing tried to imitate this ability by its own techniques. This book discusses the recognition of defects on free-form edges and - homogeneous surfaces. My many years of experience has shown that such a task can be solved e?ciently only under particular conditions. Inevitably, the following questions must be answered: How did the defect come about? How and why is a person able to recognize a speci?c defect? In short, one needs an analysis of the process of defect creation as well as an analysis of its detection. As soon as the principle of these processes is understood, the processes can be described mathematically on the basis of an appropriate physical model and can then be captured in an algorithm for defect detection. This approach can be described as “image processing from a physicist’s perspective”. I have successfully used this approach in the development of several industrial image processingsystemsandimprovedupontheminthecourseoftime.Iwouldlike to present the achieved results in a hands-on book on the basis of edge-based algorithms for defect detection on edges and surfaces. I would like to thank all who have supported me in writing this book.

Book The Adaptive Edge

Download or read book The Adaptive Edge written by Michael L. Bandy and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For USSOCOM to maintain its upper hand in producing "elite" Soldiers, a better understanding of current adaptive skills training in the United States Army and their current implementation in United States Army Special Forces Officer training program is needed. Given the current operational tempo faced by the Special Forces soldier, having the ability to adapt to the situation at hand is paramount. History has proven that a soldier's ability to adapt, remain effective in all environments and perform optimally under all levels of stress is essential for military operations: current training in adaptive skills for military applications could be improved for all U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers. This thesis draws on current adaptive skills techniques taught at the United States Military Academy, West Point, as well as adaptive skills techniques utilized in sports psychology.

Book excerpt: In the 5G era, edge computing and new ecosystems of mobile microservices enable new business models, strategies, and competitive advantage. Focusing on microservices, this book introduces the essential concepts, technologies, and trade-offs in the edge computing architectural stack, providing for widespread adoption and dissemination. The book elucidates the concepts, architectures, well-defined building blocks, and prototypes for mobile microservice platforms and pervasive application development, as well as the implementation and configuration of service middleware and AI-based microservices. A goal-oriented service composition model is then proposed by the author, allowing for an economic assessment of connected, smart mobile services. Based on this model, costs can be minimized through statistical workload aggregation effects or backhaul data transport reduction, and customer experience and safety can be enhanced through reduced response times. This title will be a useful guide for students and IT professionals to get started with microservices and when studying the use of microservices in pervasive applications. It will also appeal to researchers and students studying software architecture and service-oriented computing, and especially those interested in edge computing, pervasive computing, the Internet of Things, and mobile microservices.
