Book Privatization in Turkey

Download or read book Privatization in Turkey written by Ahmet Zaifer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-06-27 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Privatization in Turkey: Power Bloc, Capital Accumulation and State, Ahmet Zaifer offers a rare look on privatization in Turkey that involves all three historical periods of Turkish privatization process -1980s and 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s- and covers different forms of privatization from divestiture to public-private partnership. Benefiting from theoretically informed qualitative research spanning nearly a decade that has involved several interviews with key informant groups, extensive review of newspaper articles and detailed analysis of annual reports of businesses, Ahmet Zaifer convincingly proves that the acceleration of privatization in Turkey has not only provided advantages to so-called favourable capital groups and the government elites, but also consolidated the position of Capital in General at the expense of labouring-popular classes and the natural environment of the entire country.

Book excerpt: In 1980s, privatization, both at theoretical level and in practice, stood out as an economic political instrument, and became one of the most discussed issues. In the first section of the study, the concept of privatization has been discussed and the definition, sorts, and methods of privatization have been tried to be explained. After describing of the main concepts, the privatization applications in Turkey have been given place and the legal framework about privatization has been described It was seen that the institutes privatized got into act effectively in free market economy in a competitive environment, protecting the consumers rights. It cannot be said that the privatization applications beginning in 1985 became very successful in the first years Between the years of 2000 -2013, privatization gained acceleration. In Turkey, after Public Economic Enterprises (PEEs) were privatized, it was concluded that they were active more effectively; that their profitability increased compared to pre-privatization.

Book Order and Compromise Government Practices in Turkey from the Late Ottoman Empire to the Early 21st Century

Download or read book Order and Compromise Government Practices in Turkey from the Late Ottoman Empire to the Early 21st Century written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-02-17 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Order and Compromise questions the historicity of government practices in Turkey from the late Ottoman Empire up to the present day. It explores how institutions at work are being framed by constant interactions with non-institutional characters from various social realms. This volume thus approaches the state-society continuum as a complex and shifting system of positions. Inasmuch as they order and ordain, state authorities leave room for compromise, something which has hitherto been little studied in concrete terms. By combining in-depth case studies with an interdisciplinary conceptual framework, this collection helps apprehend the morphology and dynamics of public action and state-society relations in Turkey. Contributors are: Marc Aymes, Olivier Bouquet, Nicolas Camelio, Nathalie Clayer, Anouck Gabriela Corte-Real Pinto, Berna Ekal, Benoît Fliche, Muriel Girard, Benjamin Gourisse, Sümbül Kaya, Noémi Lévy Aksu, Élise Massicard, Jean-François Pérouse, Clémence Scalbert Yücel, Emmanuel Szurek and Claire Visier.

Book Turkish Foreign Policy in Post Cold War Era

Download or read book Turkish Foreign Policy in Post Cold War Era written by İdris Bal and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the end of Cold War discipline the world has entered a new era. Parameters have changed; new handicaps as well as new opportunities have been created for countries. Turkey as a neighbor of former USSR, a member of NATO and located at the center of a sensitive region covered by Caucasus, Balkans and Middle East, has been affected by the end of Cold War radically. Turkey has lost some of her bargaining cards in the new era and therefore has needed new arguments. This need encouraged Turkey to take active steps in Post Cold War era. This book analyzes Turkey s relations with US, EU, Balkans, Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia, Russia, China and Japan. At the same time, effects of economic crises and domestic developments on foreign policy, Turkish model in Turkish foreign policy, water conflict and Kurdish problem are analyzed as well. To conclude, it is possible to argue that although Turkey lost some of her bargaining cards in Post Cold War era, new developments pushed Turkey to the center of world politics rather then to periphery. Book Legal Aspects of Privatisation

Download or read book Legal Aspects of Privatisation written by Bulent Seven and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aims of this thesis are as follows:(a) To present a comprehensive analysis of the concept of privatisation its origins and limits, (b) To identify the legal and institutional framework for privatisation in different European countries from a comparative perspective; (c) To define and analyse particularly legal issues which arise during the privatisation transactions: e.g. labour law, competition law etc.; (d) To evaluate which features of the successful legal and organisational framework of privatisation have been successful so as to provide guidelines for those individuals and organisations participating in the privatisation exercises. This work found out that there is no simple, internationally applicable recipe for privatisation; various legal methods and techniques can be used to privatise state owned enterprises. Because each country has different circumstances, it is impossible to provide a unique model for privatisation; each country needs to design its own model according to its circumstances.Privatisation is an essential but insufficient element for structural economic reform in the economy and society. Privatisation is not a panacea, it is not the solution to every economic and administrative problem; selling an enterprise to the private sector does not mean an end to all problems. Also privatisation is not an overnight process or a magic touch; it will be a lengthy process. Furthermore, a decision that something can be privatised does not mean that it should be privatised. In that context, privatisation is not good or bad; it is an economic and social instrument. If it is well designed it may bring substantial benefits to the economy and society. In many countries, many state owned enterprises, particularly the ones which are financially weak, have still not been privatised. This finding revealed that the privatisation process will be in the political and economic agenda for at least few more decades.

Book The BRICs and Emerging Economies in Comparative Perspective

Download or read book The BRICs and Emerging Economies in Comparative Perspective written by Uwe Becker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past ten to twenty years the global political economy picture has dramatically changed with the emergence of the economies of Brazil, Russia, India and, notably, China (BRICs) as big players and competitors of the advanced economies in the West and Eastern Asia. The book comparatively analyses institutional change in the BRICs. This book examines the BRICs by analysing their institutional development, their main continuities and changes, and their differences. It provides a comparative analysis of the political economies of the BRICs, but also considers South Africa and Turkey. The contributors provide a systematic comparison of the state-economy and the capital-labour relationships and explore whether they liberalized or followed a specific trajectory. The book also addresses debates on the varieties of capitalism and explores whether the emerging economies fit into the dichotomous construction of liberal and coordinated capitalism or whether they require a more differentiated typological approach. Moving away from rigid conceptions and the static classification of political economies as either liberal or coordinated and presenting a more open approach, The BRICs and Emerging Economies in Comparative Perspective will be vital reading for students and scholars of comparative political economy, international relations, capitalism, the BRICs, emerging markets and the role of the state in the economy.
