Book The Accelerating Effect of Additives on RadiationiInduced Graft Polymerization

Download or read book The Accelerating Effect of Additives on RadiationiInduced Graft Polymerization written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the course of the work on this contract, it was observed that the rates of various radiation-induced graft polymerizations would be substantially increased by dilution of the monomers with certain solvents. These large rate increases were shown to be a general feature of graft polymerization since they occurred in a wide variety of graft polymerization systems. Monomers studied were styrene, methyl acrylate and t-butylaminoethyl methacrylate; polymers included polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, Teflon and nylon.

Book A Comparison of Radiation induced Graft Copolymerization Utilizing Electron Accelerators and Isotope Sources as Radiation Initiators

Download or read book A Comparison of Radiation induced Graft Copolymerization Utilizing Electron Accelerators and Isotope Sources as Radiation Initiators written by George Odian and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An 1100 curie cobalt-60 source, a 1.0 Mev. dynamitron electron accelerator and a 2.0 Mev. Van de Graaff electron accelerator were used in an investigation of the radiation induced graft copolymerization of a methacrylic acid-styrene (2:1 mole ratio) mixture onto polypropylene. A qualitative analysis of the graft copolymer composition, based on spectroscopic analyses and on the dyeability of the grafted samples indicated that isotope initiated grafts are richer in the more polar component than equivalent accelerator initiated copolymer grafts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast array of libraries in the world bear mute witness to the truth of the 3000-year-old observation of King Solomon who stated " ... of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh." Yet books are an essential written record of our lives and the progress of science and humanity. Here is another book to add to this huge collection, but, hopefully, not just another collection of pages, but rather a book with a specific purpose to aid in alleviating the "weariness of the flesh" that could arise from much studying of other journals and books in order to obtain the basic information contained herein. This book is about polymeric materials and biological activity, as the title notes. Polymeric materials, in the broad view taken here, would include not only synthetic polymers (e.g., polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyesters, polyamides, etc.), but also the natural macromolecules (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides) which compose natural tissues in humans, animals and plants. In the broad sense used here, biological activity is any type of such action whether it be in medication, pest control, plant-growth regu lation, and so on. In short, this book attempts to consider, briefly, the use of any type of polymeric material system with essentially any kind of biological activity.

Book Radiation Chemistry of Polymers

Download or read book Radiation Chemistry of Polymers written by V.S. Ivanov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-03-08 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of the series "New Concepts in Polymer Science", this volume contains information on the main theoretical and practical problems involved in radiation chemistry of polymers. The processes of polymerization and modification of polymers by grafting, crosslinking and degradation, induced by ionizing radiation, are all described, as well as the radiation resistance of polymers and their protection from radiation. The book also contains applications of radiation chemistry of polymers, such as: principles of selection of radiation-chemical processes for industrial use; choice of radiation sources for specific processes; modification of textile and film materials by grafting; manufacturing of heat-shrinkable, thermostable and mechanically strong polymer products; composites; rubber vulcanizates and self-adhesive products; paints and coatings; man-made fibres; materials for microelectronics; and polymer materials for medical purposes.

Book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology

Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Ernest J. Henley and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology, Volume 1 provides an authoritative, complete, coherent, and critical review of the nuclear industry. This book covers a variety of topics, including nuclear power stations, graft polymerization, diffusion in uranium alloys, and conventional power plants. Organized into seven chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the three stages of the operation of a power plant, either nuclear or conventionally fueled. This text then examines the major problems that face the successful development of commercial nuclear power plants. Other chapters consider the synthesis of graft copolymers by radiation-induced graft polymerization. This book discusses as well the processes of technical importance in the nuclear field, such as the bonding of fuel materials to cladding, or the release of fission gases from fuel elements. The final chapter deals with the effects of nuclear radiation in causing chemical changes in matter. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and engineers.
