Book Distribution of Water Vapor in the Stratosphere as Determined from Infrared Absorption Measurements

Download or read book Distribution of Water Vapor in the Stratosphere as Determined from Infrared Absorption Measurements written by DAVID G. MURCRAY and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The infrared solar spectrum from 1 to 10 microns was observed at various altitudes from the ground to 90,000 ft over Alamogordo, N. Mexico, April 18, 1960. By studying the variation with altitude of the 6.3 micron water vapor band and making certain assumptions concerning the pressure dependence of the absorption, it has been possible to determine the distribution of water vapor with altitude up to 90,000 ft. The method used is discussed in detail. The results are presented as an altitude profile of the mixing ratio and are found to be in good agreement with the results obtained by other investigators using different techniques. The amount of water vapor present above the peak altitude reached by the balloon is also determined from the spectra. It is found that there was at least 11 microns of precipitable water vapor present above 90,000 ft over Alamogordo at the time of the flight. (Author).

Book The Infrared Absorption Spectrum of Water Vapor and Carbon Dioxide

Download or read book The Infrared Absorption Spectrum of Water Vapor and Carbon Dioxide written by H. N. Ritland and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief review is given of the basic principles which govern the absorption of infrared radiation by molecules, with emphasis on the factors which govern the qualitative features of the observed spectra. This is used as a basis for the examination of the infrared spectra of water vapor and of carbon dioxide. The characteristics of the individual bands are discussed in terms of the underlying theory and are illustrated by experimental absorption curves derived from the published literature. (Author).

Book Solar and Infrared Radiation Measurements

Download or read book Solar and Infrared Radiation Measurements written by Frank Vignola and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rather specialized field of solar and infrared radiation measurement has become more and more important in the face of growing demands by the renewable energy and climate change research communities for data that are more accurate and have increased temporal and spatial resolution. Updating decades of acquired knowledge in the field, Solar and Infrared Radiation Measurements details the strengths and weaknesses of instruments used to conduct such solar and infrared radiation measurements. Topics covered include: Radiometer design and performance Equipment calibration, installation, operation, and maintenance Data quality assessment Methods to use measured data to estimate irradiance for any surface With a broad range of content that will benefit students and more experienced readers alike, this resource serves as a primer and technical reference that presents the basic terminology and fundamentals for resource assessment. It explores the history of solar radiation instruments and addresses direct normal, global, diffuse, and tilted measurements, as well as the characteristics of instruments used for these measurements. The authors consider methods of assessing the uncertainty of solar measurements and then cover albedo, infrared, net, and spectral irradiance measurements and instrumentation. The book devotes a section to other meteorological instruments, and another to the basics for installing and operating a solar monitoring station. Appendices include information on solar resource assessment modeling and satellite-derived irradiance, along with other useful material. This book’s authors are experts who each have more than 30 years of experience developing and operating multiple measurement stations, working with industry to improve radiometry, and conducting various research projects.

Book Nu averaged Infrared Absorption Coefficients of Water Vapor

Download or read book Nu averaged Infrared Absorption Coefficients of Water Vapor written by R. F. Calfee and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the quantitative absorption coefficients of water vapor in a format suitable for calculation of water vapor absorption spectra characterized by instrumental bandpasses of 1 cm−1 or greater in the 670 to 1450 cm−1 region. The coefficients are derived from individual line parameters of H2O and represent a useful way of reducing line parameter data to a practical volume of information for 1 cm−1 resolution spectra of the troposphere. Transmission spectra for three water vapor concentrations show typical applications of the absorption coefficient tables. The application of the data is restricted to conditions within 10% of 1 atmosphere pressure and a temperature of 296 K if a transmission accuracy of 2% is to be maintained.
