Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, it is our responsibility to teach our children about God and the wonderful truths found in the Bible. And while this can sometimes feel overwhelming, keep in mind that you are not alone. The ABC Book of God's Friends is a delightful book that introduces children to a variety of biblical characters. These characters come alive through the book's use of bright, colorful illustrations and fun, simple poetry. Each story receives its own short poem and beautiful illustration, helping young audiences connect to the book's characters. The presentation of these characters in alphabetical order is not only a great way for children to learn the alphabet but it also helps them to retain what they have learned. The ABC Book of God's Friends covers stories found in both the Old and New Testaments and showcases people who genuinely loved the Lord. And while this book is meant to be an introduction to biblical characters and basic Bible truths, it is important for families to strive to spend more time together in God's Word. A simple way to do this is by using the scriptural reference guide found at the end of this book. This guide lists the books, chapters, and verses where these stories can be found in the Bible. Enjoy spending time in God's Word and in so doing grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18 NIV). I pray that God bless you and your family as you learn more about His wonderful love.

Book excerpt: The Christian life is built on three seemingly unremarkable practices: reading the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. However, according to David Mathis, such “habits of grace” are the God-designed channels through which his glorious grace flows—making them life-giving practices for all Christians. Whether it’s hearing God’s voice (the Word), having his ear (prayer), or participating in his body (fellowship), such spiritual rhythms of the Christian life have the power to awaken our souls to God’s glory and stir our hearts for lifelong service in his name. What’s more, these seemingly simple practices grant us access to a host of spiritual blessings that we can only begin to imagine this side of eternity—and the incredible joy that such blessings bring to God’s children today.

Book A Westminster Catechism

Download or read book A Westminster Catechism written by Martin Murphy and published by Martin Murphy. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systematic theology for laymen in the form of a catechism is the format of this book. It is a search for divine truth and theological integrity. More importantly, it is an explanation of the Christian faith. John Calvin said, "When Divine Truth is avowedly attacked, we must not tolerate the adulteration of one single iota of it. It is certainly not a trivial matter to see God's light extinguished by the devil's darkness; and besides, this matter is of greater moment than many suppose. Nor is it true, as they allege, that he who does not acquiesce in the errors of others, shows deadly hate by dissenting from them." Calvin's principle argument is as true today as it has been throughout the history of the church. Calvin was far more ambitious than we might anticipate in the church today. Theological integrity is as important today as it was five centuries ago. Theological integrity may be summarized by a belief system that works out consistently based on the Word of God. If your creedal statement is the result of your understanding of the "full counsel of God" then your theological integrity will be demonstrated in human experience. It was theological integrity that brought Jesus to the point of a deadly confrontation with the right winged conservative religious leaders of his day. This book is a summary of Christian doctrine based on the doctrine of the full counsel of God.

Book The Battle for the Beginning

Download or read book The Battle for the Beginning written by John F. MacArthur and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2005-03-20 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The battle lines have been drawn. Is the enemy winning? "Thanks to the theory of evolution," writes best-selling author John MacArthur, "naturalism is now the dominant religion of modern society. Less than a century and a half ago, Charles Darwin popularized the credo for this secular religion. Naturalism has now replaced Christianity as the main religion of the Western world, and evolution has become its principal dogma." Many Christians who claim to believe that the Bible is God's revealed truth seem willing to allow modern scientific theories to replace the Genesis account of creation. Such compromises present a conspicuous danger. Bible teacher and pastor, John MacArthur, believes that in Genesis 1-3 we find the foundation of every doctrine that is essential to the Christian faith?the vital underpinnings for everything we believe. The Battle for the Beginning draws a clear line on today's theological landscape. "Everything in Scripture that teaches about sin and redemption assumes the literal truth of the first three chapters of Genesis. If we wobble to any degree on the truth of this passage," John MacArthur insists, "we undermind the very foundations of our faith."

Book The Productions of Time

Download or read book The Productions of Time written by Michael Dolzani and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myth criticism flourished in the mid-twentieth century under the powerful influence of Canadian thinker Northrop Frye. It asserted the need to identify common, unifying patterns in literature, arts, and religion. Although it was eclipsed by postmodern theories that asserted difference and conflict, those theories proved incapable of inspiring solidarity or guiding social action. The Productions of Time argues for a return to myth criticism in order to refine and extend its vision. With the aim of rehabilitating myth criticism for our time, Michael Dolzani sketches an anatomy of the imagination as demonstrated in the total body of its productions, including literature, mythology, the arts, popular culture, and religious and political texts. Dolzani situates a vast panoply of images, character types, plot structures, themes, and genres to better understand their purposes, their recurrences across broad spans of history, and their interrelations. Illustrating the relationship between mythology and history, The Productions of Time proposes a symbolic language as a way of enabling dialogue across ideological and individual differences. Arguing for the ethical and intellectual necessity of conceiving a unifying pattern that transcends differences, The Productions of Time demonstrates that imagination is part of the human inheritance, common to all, not just to poets and mystics.
