  • Pages : 552 pages

Download or read book Relativistic Channeling written by R. A. Carrigan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987-09 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Channeling, by its nature, involves a wide and disparate range of disciplines. Crystal preparation, material science, accelerator physics, sophisticated theoretical analysis and, of course, channeling itself all must work in concert in a research program. In spite of the gulfs separating some of these activities, researchers have drawn together over the last decade to carry out remarkable experiments in relativistic channeling and channeling radiation. Several informal workshops on high-energy channeling have been held over ~he years at Aarhus and Fermilab. However, with the vigorous progress in the field in the last several years it became clear that a more formal, comprehensive workshop was needed along with a book that covered the whole spectrum of the new developments, probed the future, and also laid out some of the foundations of the subject. This volume is the outcome of that process. The organization and preparation of both the volume and the workshop owe much to several outstanding scientific committees. The membership of these included J. Andersen (Aarhus), S. Baker (Fermilab), B. Berman (G. Washington), G. Bologna (Torino), E. Bonderup (Aarhus), S. Datz (Oak Ridge), J. Forster (Chalk River), F. Fujimoto (Tokyo), W. Gibson (Albany), I. Mitchell (Chalk River), Y. Ohtsuki (Waseda), R. Pantell (Stanford), S. Picraux (Sandia), J. Remillieux (Lyon), A. Saenz (NRL), V. Schegelsky (Gatchina), C. Sun (Albany), H. tiberall (Catholic U. ), E. Uggerh¢j (CERN), and R. Wedell (Humboldt). Others from across the spectrum of scientific disciplines agreed to serve as session chairmen.

Book Yvain

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chretien de Troyes
  • Publisher : Yale University Press

Download or read book Yvain written by Chretien de Troyes and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1987-09-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.

Book Nonlinear Integral Operators and Applications

Download or read book Nonlinear Integral Operators and Applications written by Carlo Bardaro and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1903 Fredholm published his famous paper on integral equations. Since then linear integral operators have become an important tool in many areas, including the theory of Fourier series and Fourier integrals, approximation theory and summability theory, and the theory of integral and differential equations. As regards the latter, applications were soon extended beyond linear operators. In approximation theory, however, applications were limited to linear operators mainly by the fact that the notion of singularity of an integral operator was closely connected with its linearity. This book represents the first attempt at a comprehensive treatment of approximation theory by means of nonlinear integral operators in function spaces. In particular, the fundamental notions of approximate identity for kernels of nonlinear operators and a general concept of modulus of continuity are developed in order to obtain consistent approximation results. Applications to nonlinear summability, nonlinear integral equations and nonlinear sampling theory are given. In particular, the study of nonlinear sampling operators is important since the results permit the reconstruction of several classes of signals. In a wider context, the material of this book represents a starting point for new areas of research in nonlinear analysis. For this reason the text is written in a style accessible not only to researchers but to advanced students as well.

Download or read book DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING AND APPLICATIONS written by V. Chandra Shekhar Rao, Sunkari Venkatramulu & Dr. P. Sammulal and published by Horizon Books ( A Division of Ignited Minds Edutech P Ltd). This book was released on 2021-05-05 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence and impact of digital images on modern society, science, technology and art are tremendous. Image processing has become such a critical component in contemporary science and technology that many tasks would not be attempted without it. It is a truly interdisciplinary subject that draws from synergistic developments involving many disciplines and is used in medical imaging, microscopy, astronomy, computer vision, geology and many other fields. With a few exceptions, the topics of optical information processing and digital information processing are usually covered in different books, written by experts in one field or the other. It is rare that the two topics are both covered in the same volume. This book is an exception to this trend, and is notable in several different aspects, but especially in its breadth of coverage of both topics. It seems very appropriate to have both general topics covered in the same book, for optical processing systems (defined broadly) commonly include digital systems to drive the optical system and to post-process the data (example: adaptive-optic systems), while digital processing systems most commonly operate on data that has been gathered by an optical system. As a consequence, sophisticated image-gathering and handling systems today include both types of technology, a merger that grows more complete as time progresses. Indeed, even consumer-oriented devices such as digital cameras are sophisticated systems with optical and digital parts. This is a text for use in a first practical course in image processing and analysis, for final-year undergraduate or first-year graduate students with a background in biomedical engineering, computer science, radiologic sciences or physics. Designed for readers who will become “end users” of digital image processing in the biomedical sciences, it emphasizes the conceptual framework and the effective use of image processing tools and uses mathematics as a tool, minimizing the advanced mathematical development of other textbooks.
