Book excerpt: A contemporary romance with undertones of medieval history and a spiritual twist, woven with ancient Welsh mythology and timeless Irish humour. 'The 49th Day' is the first in a trilogy of novels weaving together the past, present and future lives of Katherine Walsh and the powerful men who seek to control her. Based around the Buddhist notion of reincarnation, the story unfolds to reveal the events of the first seven weeks of her unexpected pregnancy. Coincidences in her past and present lives become clear as she grapples with the current stranglehold on her life and contemplates her future as the custodian of the soul of her unborn child.

Book Tibetan Rituals of Death

Download or read book Tibetan Rituals of Death written by Margaret Gouin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-09-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and analyses the structure and performance of Tibetan Buddhist death rituals, and situates that performance within the wider context of Buddhist death practices generally. Drawing on a detailed and systematic comparative survey of existing records of Tibetan funerary practices, including historical travel accounts, anthropological and ethnographic literature, Tibetan texts and academic studies, it demonstrates that there is no standard form of funeral in Tibetan Buddhism, although certain elements are common. The structure of the book follows the twin trajectories of benefiting the deceased and protecting survivors; in the process, it reveals a rich and complex panoply of activities, some handled by religious professionals and others by lay persons. This information is examined to identify similarities and differences in practices, and the degree to which Tibetan Buddhist funeral practices are consistent with the mortuary rituals of other forms of Buddhism. A number of elements in these death rites which at first appear to be unique to Tibetan Buddhism may only be ‘Tibetan’ in their surface characteristics, while having roots in practices which pre-date the transmission of Buddhism to Tibet. Filling a gap in the existing literature on Tibetan Buddhism, this book poses research challenges that will engage future scholars in the field of Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism and Anthropology.

Book Water of Life

    Book Details:
  • Author : John W. Armstrong
  • Publisher : Health Research Books
  • Release : 2000
  • ISBN : 9780787313463
  • Pages : 140 pages

Download or read book Water of Life written by John W. Armstrong and published by Health Research Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revolutionary treatise, J.W. Armstrong puts the compelling case that all diseases (except those caused by traumatism or structural disorders) can be cured by one simple means. The therapy is an entirely drugless system of healing that treats the body as a whole. Moreover, the only ingredient needed is a substance manufactured in the body itself, rich in mineral salts, hormones and other vital substances, namely human urine. It may seem strange to take back into the body something that the body is apparently discarding. Yet the theory is similar to the natural practice of organic composting. Fallen leaves, when dug back into the soil, provide valuable mineral salts to nourish new plant life. The same principle holds true for the human body.

Book Personhood Illness and Death in America s Multifaith Neighborhoods

Download or read book Personhood Illness and Death in America s Multifaith Neighborhoods written by Lucinda Mosher and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this interfaith book Lucinda Mosher investigates different understandings of destiny, loss, death, and remembrance in America's many religions. Using stories and interviews with a variety of religious adherents and health professionals, the book wrestles with questions such as: how can our religion guide us in making decisions about certain kinds of medical treatment options? What religion-related issues would it be helpful for a healthcare provider to know? How do different religious traditions help manage our grief? In a globalized society religious traditions sit alongside each other as never before, and the need for religious literacy and multifaith chaplaincy is increasingly recognized. By looking at multireligious America, this book provides an essential exploration of different attitudes to death, helping members of all faith communities to become more literate with each other's religious traditions.

Book Physiological Responses to Prolonged Bed Rest and Fluid Immersion in Man

Download or read book Physiological Responses to Prolonged Bed Rest and Fluid Immersion in Man written by John Edward Greenleaf and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water immersion and prolonged bed rest reproduce nearly all the physiological responses observed in astronauts in the weightless state. Moreover, it appears that relative to actual weightlessness, given responses tend to occur sooner in immersion and later in bed rest. Much research has been conducted on humans using these two techniques, especially by Russian scientists. This compendium contains abstracts and annotations of reports that appeared in the literature from January 1974 through December 1980. Two other related compendia have been published: Adaptation to Prolonged Bed Rest in Man: A Compendium of Research, by J.E. Greenleaf, C.J. Greenleaf, D. Van Derveer, and K.J. Dorchak (NASA TM X-3307, 1976); and Physiologic Responses to Water Immersion in Man: A Compendium of Research, by J. Kollias, D. Van Derveer, K.J. Dorchak, and J.E. Greenleaf (NASA TM X-3308, 1976).

Book MUL BABBAR The White Star Over Bethlehem

Download or read book MUL BABBAR The White Star Over Bethlehem written by Dwight R. Hutchison and published by Editions Association Signes Celestes. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dwight Hutchison's historical novel, MUL.BABBAR, The White Star Over Bethlehem, shows how non-Jewish Babylonian astronomers and others could have shifted from their traditional ideas to believing in the Jewish Messiah. Relatively discreet events involving the synodic cycle of MUL.BABBAR (Jupiter) in the late first-century BC probably left plenty of ancient astronomers scratching their heads. The royal celestial events were at the heart of Babylonian astronomical science (but not at the heart of their astrology).
