Book The 2020 Federal Prison Preparation Manual

Download or read book The 2020 Federal Prison Preparation Manual written by Andrew Taghon and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-08 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2020 Federal Prison Preparation Manual, is a clear, concise and indispensable overview of life in the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), in terms of both inmate culture and the BOP rules and policies which govern all. The manual touches on a wide array of aspects of the Federal prison experience: from what one needs to do before entering the system; what one should expect from both staff and other inmates during incarceration; and what one should do to survive and thrive in the netherworld of prison and its welter of rules and inconsistencies. Whether male or female, whether destined for a penitentiary or camp, or whether one's sentence is measured in months or years, this manual strives to serve as a bible for someone ensnared in the Federal penal system to enter with confidence, endure the hardship with good grace, and emerge unscathed and stronger as one returns to the real world. The manual is all-inclusive, updated as new developments warrant, and is sweeping in its breadth and depth of analysis of all aspects, both formal and informal, written and unwritten, of life in a Federal prison. Q. Does the Manual provide information about how the Bureau of Prisons classifies it's institutions? A. Yes. The Manual provides clear and concise explanations as to how the Bureau classifies it's institutions, and how they determine what security level facility to which each inmate will be designated to serve his/her sentence. Individual worksheets, similar to those used by BOP staff, are included to assist in determining the security level of prison to which you will be designated. There are also recommendations which may help you secure placement in a prison of your choice. Q. Does the Manual provide information about how the BOP uses the Pre-Sentence Investigation Report? A. Yes it does. The Pre-Sentence Report is utilized by the BOP from the time of initial designation and throughout an inmate's term of confinement. Because of its importance, a significant portion of the discussion in part one focuses on the Pre-Sentence Investigation and Pre-Sentence Report. Information to assist you in ensuring that your PSR contains complete accurate information is provided. Q. I was told the Bureau of Prisons has a program in place that requires inmates to pay on their court-ordered assessments, restitution, and/or fines. Does the Manual offer information about this program? A. Yes. The Bureau of Prisons has implemented the Inmate Financial Responsibility Program. The program is voluntary; however, individuals who refuse participation are prohibited from participating and receiving the benefits from other BOP programs. The Manual provides an overview of the program's policies including what obligations the BOP will attempt to collect and how payments are figured. Q. Does the Manual provide information about the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)? A. Yes. The Residential Drug Abuse Program is the only program (other than good time credit) that may reduce the amount of time you spend in a federal prison. However, participants must meet strict criteria. Therein not all individuals are eligible to receive the reduction in their sentence for successfully completing the program. The Manual delineates the Bureau's policies surrounding the program, as well as the numerous other cognitive-based treatment programs offered within the Bureau of Prisons. Q. Does the Manual provide any information to assist those who have been convicted of sex offenses (child pornography included)? A. Yes. For safety and security reasons the Bureau of Prisons has employed policies that effect how individuals convicted of sex offenses are managed. The Manual highlights these policies and also provides an overview of treatment programs offered to sex offenders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bureau of Justice Statistics states that currently there are over 189,500 men and women incarcerated within the federal prison system. I was one of them. If you are reading this, then chances are that you are heading to federal prison as well. I've seen both sides of the fence. I spent over twenty-three years in law enforcement, both in the military and civilian sector. My crime grew out of an addiction to pornography, an addiction that I harbored most of my adult life. It grew worse over the years and it finally cost me my freedom. Upon my arrest while awaiting my sentencing, I searched everywhere for information pertaining to what I was facing. Nothing I found could tell me what it was going to be like once I was inside. Since then, I've committed myself to helping others so you won't have to go through the same things I did. The information contained in this book should help you and your family prepare for what is probably going to be the greatest challenge of your life. It is a guide for first-time offenders who are heading to federal prison. It is designed to help you prepare yourself before being remanded to custody. Included are topics such as how you will get to your designated facility, what happens once you arrive, daily life inside the fence, how to be safe, and many other issues you need to know. It also includes a preparation checklist to assist you and your family with things you should accomplish before you go.

Book A Prison Chaplaincy Manual

Download or read book A Prison Chaplaincy Manual written by Donald Stoesz and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-07-31 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manual provides a rationale for chaplaincy by using Winnifred Sullivan's three categories of religious secularism, irreligious secularism, and areligious secularism to outline the essential and transforming value of spiritual care services (preface, introduction). The manual provides a history of justice initiatives and chaplaincy services in a Canadian context (chapters one and two). The manual provides a rationale for spiritual care-giver training by showing how chaplaincy courses at a university level can build on the competencies of leadership and core knowledge that many ministers, rabbis, imams, priests, nuns, and other faith group representatives have. Emotional intelligence, professional practice skills, and diversity are additional competencies needed for spiritual care-givers to become effective prison chaplains (chapters three to six). Six principles shape the content of this book: (1) integration of chaplaincy into corrections (chapters three to six) (2) understanding of prison dynamics (chapters seven to ten), (3) complementary use of sociology and psychology (chapters eleven to fourteen), (4) provision of faith formation, rites and rituals, programs, pastoral care, and a ministry of presence (chapters fifteen to eighteen), (5) ecumenical and multi-faith religious accommodation (chapters nineteen to twenty-one) and (6) professional development (chapters twenty-four and twenty-five). The manual concludes with a statement of best practices by Dr. Thomas Beckner, long-time chaplaincy educator (Correctional Chaplains: Keepers of the Cloak, p. 24). "Chaplains are to have highly polished counselling skills, strong management and facilitation abilities, a working knowledge of various faith group requirements . . . and a strong commitment to serve all residents of the institution regardless of their faith identity or lack thereof."
