Book EASYUNI Ultimate University Guide 2015

Download or read book EASYUNI Ultimate University Guide 2015 written by EasyUni Sdn Bhd and published by EasyUni Sdn Bhd. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I write this, I reflect on my life - the hits (& misses), the bold and triumphant moments, the mistakes, joys and life lessons - I’m thrown back to a particularly quiet night picking up calls during a graveyard shift at my first job, where I spent most of my time robotically going through verbal scripts to handle customer complaints - not very fun, mind you. “Isn’t it nice that our jobs are so easy and we don’t have to think or do much?” asked my colleague, Vee, as he played some online games while handling a customer call. “Nice?” I asked. “This can’t be what work should be - mind-numbingly, routine tasks requiring almost zero thought. Work must have passion, challenges and purpose - which this place definitely offer. Without these, what’s the point?” “You know,” Vee continued, “you should do your own business or write a book. All you ever do is write, plus you always have a ton of great ideas.” The air around me seemed easier to breathe, as if immersed with opportunity. Now, I recognize why: This was my defining moment. Even though I’d spent much of my time writing, thinking and talking with people my thoughts and ideas - I didn’t consider a career or business where I can apply what came naturally to me - my love for writing, ideation and application. Over the next few weeks, I left my job and got myself into a PR & Advertising agency to start learning and applying my craft. You see, our lives are full of defining moments. Some we invite; others we don’t. Then, there are those we ignore - moments that would've, could’ve or should’ve become defining moments if we only dared to turn left or right, instead of continuing straight on. I’ve been there; I’m sure you have as well. Having regrets is a horrible thing to feel, let alone dwell on. These defining moments have the power to fundamentally change the course of our lives. As we fast approach the first half of 2015, it’s a good time to reflect on how far we’ve come (or maybe, where we’ve fell short), and think about what you’re doing (or, not doing) to live the life you want. That’s why for this issue of the easyuni University Guidebook, we’ve re-done how we create our #courses&careers section with the hope that it’ll not only educate but inspire you. We also added new sections like #beinspired, #featuredmentor and #featuredstudent that showcases people who dared to chase their dreams. We hope it will help you recognize and react to your defining moments when they come. And trust me, they will come. I always tell my children, “Always step forward when you see an open door, even if you don’t know where it will lead you.” I’ve try to live off this mantra. But, doors can be scary when you can’t see what’s on the other side. My advice to you: Stop. Look around. Spot the open doors. Then choose: Stay put or step forward. You know the right choice. Trust it. The question is, do you dare? Be awesome & enjoy the read,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the time you get your hands on this magazine, a wave of changes is expected to happen - tension of the recent SPM exams would have plummeted as the holiday spirit envelops us, and while everything is bright and merry, some of you cpuld be at the FACON Education Fair in KLCC this December deciding which course to take whilst silently hoping you get aces on your actual SPM results - nagging thoughts you would rather muffle with the latest Star Wars movie or New Year's dinner party. Nerve wracking it is, change is exciting. It's a cycle that all of us operate in and that's totally fine as I've been there, too. Taking over the magazine with a fresh team of young writers was a tought experience but it was a great opportunity to decide and flesh out new ideas. Thoughts of failing trouble our minds but those are the very things that hinder us from growing. After having said that, I would encourage all of you to be recipe for change. Don't be afraid to cook up some trouble.

Book A Mom s Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses for Gen Z ers

Download or read book A Mom s Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses for Gen Z ers written by Joy Bagnol-Estudillo and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (As seen on Yahoo News) After becoming an accidental expert in all things University of California admissions, author Joy Bagnol-Estudillo recently released her tell-all roadmap to an acceptance letter, A Mom's Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses. With post-COVID information and updated statistics, this special edition is specifically tailored to Generation Z students and their parents. A Mom's Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses is more than just a handbook on the application process. Instead, Bagnol-Estudillo dissects each stage and offers actionable insights to improve applicants' chances of success. From the removal of the SAT/ACT scores to answering Personal Insight Questions (PIQs), this guide is designed to educate students about best practices and help them make informed decisions during a pivotal moment in their lives. Bagnol-Estudillo's methods may be insightfully unconventional, but they are not unproven. After all three of her children were accepted to University of California, Berkeley, she realized that there needed to be far more substance to a successful application than just GPA and test scores. In fact, Bagnol-Estudillo challenges many college-related myths, like the incorrect assumption that numbers matter over all else, and that she explains in detail "it's a numbers game" in getting accepted. Additionally, she advises that what and how you say it in your application, using context are what "adds value" (admissions lingo talk) to your application. With 2021 admission rates plummeting, the University of California system is becoming increasingly competitive. UCLA set a record for its all-time lowest acceptance rate at 10.7% of freshman applicants. Parents and Generation Z students who are considering a University of California school can tremendously increase their odds of success with this insightful, easy and quick-to-read breakdown of the application process. A Mom's Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses is meticulously researched and updated for the modern Gen Z student. While other college guides offer generic advice or outdated personal essay prompts and recommendations, Bagnol-Estudillo has taken great care to include relevant advice like being a social media influencer on TikTok and Twitch is a very unique activity to list as your ECs. She offers suggestions that will appeal to Generation Z students who will be applying to colleges this fall. This is the only book on the market that specifically targeted Generation Z (broadly defined as those born between 1997 and 2012). As the University of California application period (November 1-30, 2021) approaches for the coming year, A Mom's Guide Applying for Admission to University of California Campuses is an essential reference guide to any college planning session.

Download or read book The Diversity Bargain written by Natasha Warikoo and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2019-02-22 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We’ve heard plenty from politicians and experts on affirmative action and higher education, about how universities should intervene—if at all—to ensure a diverse but deserving student population. But what about those for whom these issues matter the most? In this book, Natasha K. Warikoo deeply explores how students themselves think about merit and race at a uniquely pivotal moment: after they have just won the most competitive game of their lives and gained admittance to one of the world’s top universities. What Warikoo uncovers—talking with both white students and students of color at Harvard, Brown, and Oxford—is absolutely illuminating; and some of it is positively shocking. As she shows, many elite white students understand the value of diversity abstractly, but they ignore the real problems that racial inequality causes and that diversity programs are meant to solve. They stand in fear of being labeled a racist, but they are quick to call foul should a diversity program appear at all to hamper their own chances for advancement. The most troubling result of this ambivalence is what she calls the “diversity bargain,” in which white students reluctantly agree with affirmative action as long as it benefits them by providing a diverse learning environment—racial diversity, in this way, is a commodity, a selling point on a brochure. And as Warikoo shows, universities play a big part in creating these situations. The way they talk about race on campus and the kinds of diversity programs they offer have a huge impact on student attitudes, shaping them either toward ambivalence or, in better cases, toward more productive and considerate understandings of racial difference. Ultimately, this book demonstrates just how slippery the notions of race, merit, and privilege can be. In doing so, it asks important questions not just about college admissions but what the elite students who have succeeded at it—who will be the world’s future leaders—will do with the social inequalities of the wider world.
