Book Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself

Download or read book Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself written by Mark Jason Murray and published by . This book was released on 2021-09 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a dancer, singer, comedian and filmmaker, Rudy Ray Moore teetered on obscurity his entire life. Finally, with the creation of his "Dolemite" character and the release of several controversial and groundbreaking hit comedy albums and films during the 1970's, Moore achieved his short-lived success. As the decades changed and he struggled to survive, Moore's influence fueled a new generation of fans and artists who would help resurrect his career. He would become known as the "King of the Party Records" and the "Godfather of Rap," influencing comedians, musicians and pop culture even after his passing. His tenacity and drive were so inspiring, a part of his story was the basis for the hit Netflix film, Dolemite is My Name, starring Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore.Throughout his life, Rudy remained a very private person. He would end his live performances by commenting to the crowd, "Thank you for letting me be myself!" This phrase was chosen as this book's ironic title as Moore was far removed from his public persona, and personal details of his life were rarely shared. Many people, including those closest to Moore, believed they knew him well, yet the complete and detailed story of his life remained untold.Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself reveals Moore's unknown origins as he escaped poverty and abuse to enter the world of show business. Every period of his life and career is discussed in tremendous detail, with great effort made to place everything into proper historical and cultural context. Speculations will be cleared and truths will be told through the controversial last year of his life and beyond.Inspiration. Icon. Legend. This is the story of Rudy Ray Moore.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhythm & blues emerged from the African American community in the late 1940s to become the driving force in American popular music over the next half-century. Although sometimes called “doo-wop,” “soul,” “funk,” “urban contemporary,” or “hip-hop,” R&B is actually an umbrella category that includes all of these styles and genres. It is in fact a modern-day incarnation of a musical tradition that stretches back to nineteenth-century America, and even further to African beginnings. The New Blue Music: Changes in Rhythm & Blues, 1950-1999 traces the development of R&B from 1950 to 1999 by closely analyzing the top twenty-five songs of each decade. The music of artists as wide-ranging as Louis Jordan; John Lee Hooker; Ray Charles; James Brown; Earth, Wind & Fire; Michael Jackson; Public Enemy; Mariah Carey; and Usher takes center stage as the author illustrates how R&B has not only retained its traditional core style, but has also experienced a “re-Africanization” over time. By investigating musical elements of form, style, and content in R&B—and offering numerous musical examples—the book shows the connection between R&B and other forms of American popular and religious music, such as spirituals, ragtime, blues, jazz, country, gospel, and rock 'n' roll. With this evidence in hand, the author hypothesizes the existence of an even larger musical “super-genre” which he labels “The New Blue Music.”

Book Loving Myself in Order to Love You

Download or read book Loving Myself in Order to Love You written by Sharon Annette Pollard and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many episodes of my life made me believe that I had actually found this unique and special love, but as before, it was an illusion. This love I wished for would be a love that I had never experience before. And I often wondered..."does this love even exist? And God answered that question for me and that answer was yes. It does exist, but it must start with me. In so many cases we as women are the ones that give our love so freely, so openly, and so honestly. But in return we accept the negativity of a relationship. We accept the name calling, the abuse whether its verbal or physical by the ones we have given our all. This is not the love that God has blessed us with, but the behavior that we have accepted and think it is love. Life is a lesson learned daily. The ups and the downs of relationships that we think are based on love are only stepping stones to a better understanding about love and how it is given and how it is accepted. But, first take a look in the mirror and admire the reflection you see looking back at you. Love her, respect her, and admire her beauty, her uniqueness. She is rare, one of a kind. There is no one like her and her values are beyond any wealth. It is only then when you began to love that person, and accept that person, you will learn what this unspeakable love is all about and how to receive and to give it without doubt.

Book David Livingstone The Wayward Vagabond in Africa

Download or read book David Livingstone The Wayward Vagabond in Africa written by Kahende, M. G. N. and published by East African Educational Publishers. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Livingstone: The Wayward Vagabond in Africa is an expression of doubt about the raîson d’etre concerning the 19th Century explorers and missionaries in Africa. Led by David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer and missionary, they are said to have come to civilise “backward” Africans, which the author creatively re-imagines, arguing that it is far from the truth. Instead, their actions gave impetus to colonialism proper. In this book the omniscient narrator, Everywhere, is God’s special envoy mandated to witness history with far-reaching consequences for humanity. His investigation is to help nail David Livingstone on Judgment Day, much the same way St Peter chronicles events in the Book of Life. Read about how, Everywhere, the spirit rides on wind, walks on water, enters into his characters’ stream of consciousness and even discerns how they interpret the world around them. The novel retraces Livingstone’s early life, from his deprived childhood in Blantyre, Scotland; his ideological evolution and training in London and his dramatic sojourn in Monomotapa kingdom, which he half-believes is his destiny. The satirical tone in the novel aptly captures that delusional aspect of Livingstone’s “God-ordained” mission to the world.
