Book Complexion Based Discriminations

Download or read book Complexion Based Discriminations written by Dayal Dr Deen and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complexion based discrimination is a harsh prejudice against dark-skinned people by fair-skinned people that has been prevalent in all countries and continents of the world. This book states the unbearable traumas faced by dark-skinned people such as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar, and the Dalai Lama. The book is a harsh whip against the orthodox dogmas that make the lives of dark or black skinned people hell and is a healing balm to restore their stamina in the fight against people who deprive them of their rights. It is an effort to strike at the root of superstitions and prejudice. Worth is to be based on one's quality, talent, and hard work, not on skin colour.

Book A Compendium of Lacanian Terms

Download or read book A Compendium of Lacanian Terms written by Huguette Glowinski and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacques Lacan (1901-81) was one of the most original and controversial thinkers of the post-war period. His ideas had a profound effect on the intellectual movements of his time and his work is of continuing importance to a wide range of disciplines: psychoanalytic theory and practice, literary criticism, critical social theory, linguistics, cinema, art criticism and political science. Lacan's ideas can, however, be notoriously difficult: convoluted, idiosyncratic, arcane, and almost always obscure! A Compendium of Lacanian Terms provides students of Lacan with a clear and helpful exposition on some 40 key terms. Each entry outlines the conceptualization of the idea, locating it within Lacanian discourse, and the evolution of the term within the development of Lacan's ideas. A list of references is provided at the end of each entry. The editors' brief essay-like descriptions of key Lacanian terms are a superb idea, much needed in both academic and clinical arenas of psychoanalytic world. - Choice - Jan 2002

Book Defending Probabilism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Julia Fleming
  • Publisher : Georgetown University Press
  • Release : 2006-11-01
  • ISBN : 9781589013070
  • Pages : 248 pages

Download or read book Defending Probabilism written by Julia Fleming and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the centuries, at the heart of Catholic moral theology is a fundamental question: How do we behave responsibly in the face of moral uncertainty? Attempts to resolve problems of everyday life led to the growth of a variety of moral systems, one of which emerged in the early 17th century and was known as "probabilism." This method of solving difficult moral cases allowed the believer to rely upon a view that was judged defensible in terms of its arguments or the authorities behind it, even if the opposite opinion was supported by stronger arguments or more authorities. The theologian Juan Caramuel, a Spanish Cistercian monk whom Alphonso Liguori famously characterized as "the prince of laxists," has been regarded as one of the more extreme—and notorious—proponents of probabilism. As the only full-length English study of Caramuel's theological method, Defending Probabilism seeks to reappraise Caramuel's legacy, claiming that his model of moral thinking, if better understood, can actually be of help to the Church today. Considered one of the most erudite theologians of his age, a scientist and scholar who published works on everything from astronomy and architecture to printing and Gregorian chant, Caramuel strove throughout his life to understand probabilism's theological and philosophical foundations as part of his broader analysis of the nature of human knowledge. In applying Caramuel's legacy to our own time, Defending Probabilism calls for a reconsideration of the value of provisional moral knowledge. Fleming's study shows that history matters, and that to attain any position on moral certitude is a difficult and painstaking process.

Book Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy

Download or read book Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy written by A. Barnes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The matrix isolation (MI) method has now been used for nearly thirty years. During this period it has been actively developed and the range of problems tackled greatly extended. Originally it was used for studies of transient species involv ing vibrational, electronic and ESR spectroscopy. Nowadays the study of transient species forms a comparatively small part of HI work since it has been amply demonstrated that very fruitful information can be obtained of the structure and interactions of stable molecules and their aggregates. In addition to the s~ectroscopic methods mentioned above the MI technique is nowadays a standard method in research based on vibrational relaxation, luminescence, Mossbauer, magnetic circular dichroism, pulsed NMR and photoelectron spectroscopy. The matrix isolation technique affords considerable advantages over more conventional methods in most applications of spectroscopy. Areas where the technique has been widely applied, or shows great potential, include: metal atom chemistry, and its relation to surface chemistry, high temperature inorganic species, transition metal complexes, interstellar species, free radicals and unstable molecules, conformational studies, molecular com plexes, and intermolecular forces.

Book Education Economy Society

Download or read book Education Economy Society written by Salim Vally and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education, Economy & Society is a compelling and comprehensive antidote to the misconstrued nature of the relationship between education and society in South Africa. It provides a constructive critique of conventional discourses, but also alternative approaches to understanding the connections between education and the triple scourge of unemployment, inequality, and poverty. The book's contributors passionately argue that South African education finds its value and purpose in a focus on social justice, transformation, and democratic citizenship. The joy of education is to capture human imaginations and unleash their creativity towards a more humane and compassionate society. This rich resource explores the possibilities for a new pedagogy in post-school education and training through empirical research on skills, technology, and issues of employment on the shop floor; a critical analysis of the youth wage subsidy; and workers' education. The book will appeal to a wide audience including students and academics in the fields of industrial sociology, economics, adult education, further education and training, and those in youth development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [Introduction] This document presents the results of ILO research on the global magnitude of child labour. It introduces new global estimates for economic activity by children and child labour in the sense of ILO Conventions Nos 138 and 182. There are no national data to be found in this document. The lowest aggregate level presented are the major world regions. All estimates are for the benchmark year 2000. Child labour is a sensitive subject and numbers on its magnitude play an important role in global policy-making and advocacy efforts. The research was conducted in acute awareness of this responsability and used well-proven statistical methodologies in an attempt to keep error margins to a minimum. All sources, underlying definitions and methodological steps are explained in detail. The document is devided into three main sections. Section 1 presents the main findings. Sections 2 and 3 introduce definitions and methodologies. Data are presented in tables and charts
