Book Texturing of Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Texturing of Concrete Pavements written by Jim W. Hall and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2009 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores a recommended process for determining the type of concrete pavement texture that may be used for a specific highway project. The process considers the effects of texture type on friction and noise characteristics.

Book The Significance of Pavement Texture

Download or read book The Significance of Pavement Texture written by Glenn G. Balmer and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper discusses the influence of roadway surface textures on the skid resistance, the speed-gradient, the wet-pavement accident rate, pavement wear, and the generation of tire-road interaction noise. The tendency of a vehicle to hydroplane is reduced by increasing the texture magnitude. Appropriate textures are developed by using open-graded asphalt friction surface courses and by grooving portland cement concrete with steel tines or a vibrating float while the concrete is plastic. Hardened pavements can be textured by grooving with a diamond saw or by resurfacing with an overlay. More development is needed in texture measurement techniques, especially in automating the stereo-photo interpretation method and the linear polarized laser technique"--Technical report documentation page

Book A New Look at Surface Texture for Concrete Pavements

Download or read book A New Look at Surface Texture for Concrete Pavements written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses important developments during the evolution of surface texture technology for concrete pavements. The paper looks at the three important characteristics: texture, friction and noise. Finally, it discusses recent efforts in Europe and the United States that may again produce a shift from the common transverse tine surface. The paper presents preliminary findings from ongoing research that is focusing on how to balance or optimize the concrete pavement surface texture for skid resistance and noise. The preliminary results indicate that transverse tining may not be the optimal solution. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD number 872551.
