Download or read book Treatise on Hydraulics Classic Reprint written by Mansfield Merriman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatise on Hydraulics Many letters from foreign countries have urged the author to introduce the metric system of measures into the book. To meet this demand, the most important metric data, coefficients, formulas, and problems are given at the end of each chapter, and the student who follows these will have no occasion to transform English measures, but may learn to think in metric units and to use them without hesitation. The hydraulic tables have been gathered together at the end Of the volume, instead of being scattered throughout the text, and it is believed that this plan affords the advantage that a table can be more readily found. The most important tables are presented both in the English and in the metric system, the latter not being a mere transformation Of the former, but being arranged to be used with metric arguments. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book on Hydraulics Including an Outline of the Theory of Turbines The treatment of turbines and water wheels has been re stricted to an outline of the theory, but several illustrations showing typical American practice have been included. For these the author is indebted to the courtesy of manufacturers, to whom credit is in every case given in the text. The aim has been to unify the theory, the treatment of all specific cases being based upon the same general principles and equations, and a general notation for velocities and their direction-angles being adopted which it is hoped will be found simple and helpful. This unification includes the theory of turbine pumps. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Hydraulics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hydraulics Classic Reprint written by F. C. Lea and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hydraulics When the author undertook some time ago to write this work, it was under the impression, which impression was shared by many teachers, that a book was required by Engineering students dealing with the subject of Hydraulics in a wider sense than that covered by existing text books. In addition the author felt that though several excellent text books were in existence, the large amount of experimental research carried out during the last 10 or 15 years, very little of which has been done in this country, on the subject of the flow of water, had not received the attention it deserved. The great developments in turbines and centrifugal pumps also merited some notice. An attempt has been made to embody the results of the latest researches in the book, and to give sufficient details to indicate the methods used in obtaining these results, especially in those cases where such information and the references thereto, are likely to prove of value to those desirous of carrying out experiments on the flow of water. Perhaps in no branch of Applied Science is it more difficult to co-ordinate results and express them by general formulae than in Hydraulics. Practical Engineers engaged in the design of water channels frequently complain of the large differences they obtain in the calculated dimensions of such channels by using the formulae put forward by different authorities. Before any formula can be used with assurance it is necessary to have some knowledge of the data used in determining the empirical constants in the formula. For this reason a little attention has been given to the historical development of the formulae for determining the flow in pipes and channels, and some particulars of the data from which the constants were determined are given. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hydraulic Machinery: With an Introduction to Hydraulics In books of this class an attempt is usually made to avoid using the calculus, or to disguise its use in the language of so-called elementary mathematics this course is not altogether free from objections, the proofs given being usually long, difficult, and not too exact. The present work is the result of a suggestion by Professor Perry, F whose treatment of the theoretical portions of the subject I have followed; and I venture to think that, although in some cases it has seemed necessary to make use of elementary applications of the calculus, the proofs are simple, easy, and satisfactory. The student who does not possess the small amount of knowledge necessary to follow the reasoning, had better accept the results without proof than attempt to master those often given. Book Elements of Hydraulics Vol 1

Download or read book Elements of Hydraulics Vol 1 written by Mansfield Merriman and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Hydraulics, Vol. 1: A d104-Book for Secondary Technical Schools In the following pages the attempt is made to give a presentation of the subject of hydraulics without the use of higher mathematics. The degree of preparation required of the reader is merely that now given in high schools, and includes only arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, and an elementary course in mechanics. In particular the author has had in mind the students in the upper classes of secondary technical schools, and it has been his aim to present the subject in such a manner that it may be readily comprehended by them. It is believed that the essential principles and methods of hydraulics have been covered, although an expert can easily criticise the book on the ground that certain topics have been inadequately treated or omitted altogether. While it has been harder for the author to decide what should be omitted than what should be included, it has been his intention to discuss, as fully as seemed consistent with the assigned limit of space, those topics which are of greatest importance in practical engineering work. Book Hydraulic Motors

Download or read book Hydraulic Motors written by Irving P. Church and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hydraulic Motors: With Related Subjects, Including Centrifugal Pumps, Pipes, and Open Channels, Designed as a d104book for Engineering Schools By reason of the great increase that has taken place of recent years throughout the world in the utilization of water power, notably in connection with the electric transmission of energy, a special and growing prominence attaches to the subject of Hydraulic Motors in the curriculum of engineering schools. In the preparation of the following pages, as forming a text-book on this important branch of hydraulics for the use of students of engineering, it has been borne in mind that to facilitate the acquirement of clear and sound ideas on the mechanics of the subject is the first essential of such a book; and, as greatly assisting to this end, ample numerical illustration has been provided in direct connection with the necessary algebraic treatment. At the same time, it is believed that sufficient descriptive matter has been introduced, relating to both past and present construction and design, to make the treatment a fairly practical one for its purpose, when regard is had to the limited time available for this subject in the ordinary course of study at an engineering school. Some attention is also given to centrifugal pumps (so much improved of recent years) and other allied appliances; and to special problems, closely connected with the subject of water-power, involving pipes, weirs, and open channels. The experiments of Joukovsky on water-hammer are presented and the theory of this phenomenon is developed. The student is supposed to be already well versed in the part of hydraulics dealing with stationary vessels and pipes, as set forth (for instance) in the writer's Mechanics of Engineering (in referring to which the abbreviation M. of E. is used). It is hoped that the book may prove useful to practising engineers as well as students; in which connection attention is called to the diagrams of friction-heads in pipes and those for determining Kutter's coefficients for open channels. These have been especially prepared for the present work and will be found in the Appendix. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book A Manual of Hydraulics Classic Reprint written by R. Busquet and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Hydraulics The growing needs of modern industry have given rise to a corresponding development in energy producers. In recent years steam engines have been brought to such a state of perfection, that it appears impossible for them to be much further improved in the future. Again, the Parsons, Curtis, and Laval steam turbines have each contributed their share to the production of mechanical energy. Also explosion engines, using either oil vapour, gas, petroleum, or alcohol, have made possible the transformation of heat into mechanical work, with an efficiency which, until recently, was quite unlooked for. But all these engines consume great quantities of coal, that "black bread" of industry, whose price, increasing with its use, causes the loss of all the fruits of economies attained by successive improvements in the efficiency of heat engines. It is because industry has sought other sources of energy in addition to the fuel which lies underground, that water-power has been exploited, and that use has been made of that "white oil" which collects on the mountains and is conveyed in rivers to work hydraulic machinery. Of course the utilisation of waterfalls is not of recent date, but their applications have been very limited in the past because the energy obtained could not be distributed in the great centres where it was needed. Since, however, electric currents have rendered possible the transport of water forces stored up in mountainous districts to popular centres, there has been a veritable revolution.
