Book Davidson s Principles and Practice of Medicine E Book

Download or read book Davidson s Principles and Practice of Medicine E Book written by Stuart H. Ralston and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 1440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than two million medical students, doctors and other health professionals around the globe have owned a copy of Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine since it was first published. Now in its 23rd Edition, this textbook describes the pathophysiology and clinical features of the most frequently encountered conditions in the major specialties of adult medicine and explains how to recognise, investigate, diagnose and manage them. Taking its origins from Sir Stanley Davidson’s much-admired lecture notes, Davidson’s has endured because it keeps pace with how modern medicine is taught and provides a wealth of information in an easy-to-read, concise and beautifully illustrated format. This book will serve readers everywhere as a core text that integrates medical science with clinical medicine, conveying key knowledge and practical advice in a highly accessible and readable format. The opening section describes the fundamentals of genetics, immunology, infectious diseases and population health, and discusses the core principles of clinical decision-making and good prescribing. A new second section on emergency and critical care medicine encompasses poisoning, envenomation and environmental medicine, and introduces a new chapter on acute medicine and critical illness. The third section covers the major medical specialties, each thoroughly revised and brought fully up to date. Two new chapters on maternal and adolescent/transition medicine complement the one on ageing and disease. A new chapter on medical ophthalmology has been included. Clinical Examination overviews summarise the main elements for each system and now feature in the biochemistry, nutrition and dermatology chapters. Presenting Problems sections provide a clear pathway for the assessment of and approach to the most common complaints in each specialty. Practice Point summaries detail the practical skills that medical students and junior doctors must acquire. Emergency boxes emphasise the core knowledge needed to manage acutely ill patients. In Old Age, In Pregnancy and In Adolescence boxes highlight differences in the practice of medicine in these patient groups, and illustrate the interfaces between medical, obstetric and paediatric services. The text is extensively illustrated, with over 1000 diagrams, clinical photographs, and radiology and pathology images. The global perspective is enhanced by an International Advisory Board of experts from 17 countries, and by authors from around the world.

Book Principles of Clinical Practice

Download or read book Principles of Clinical Practice written by Mark B. Mengel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we move into the 21st century it is becoming increasingly difficult to offer appropriate introductory clinical experiences for medical students. Many schools offer clinical experiences in the first year of medical school, when the learner has little background in the traditions and origins of the doctor-patient interaction. Others begin this process in the second year, after a professional language base has been established, but concise educational materials are scarce that integrate the meaning of the privileged clinical encounter with the process and content of interviewing and examining patients. In the tertiary hospitals, where most medical schools are based, the educators must provide an orienta tion to the clinical encounter, an intensely personal experience, in the midst of glittering technological marvels that easily distract both the novice physician and the wizened teacher. Understanding the context and historical basis for the privilege of interviewing and examining another person about intimate matters relating to health and disease is essential to this process. Considering these factors, this textbook is written to assist medical educators and medical students involved in early clinical training. As the demand for "high-tech" medicine has accelerated, so has the public concern over the loss of "high-touch" or compassionate, humane interactions with physicians. Physicians are perceived as more concerned with readouts from machines and fiberoptic views of the patient than with understanding and car ing about the people we have labeled as patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine: A Text-Book for Practitioners and Students, With Special Reference to Diagnosis and Treatment I have no apology to make for preparing this book. I have long contemplated it, and have finished it after several years' labor. It has taken some time, because it represents almost purely personal work, which has been frequently interrupted. It does not pretend to be based on my personal practice only. In these days of specialized work this would be impossible, though with most of even the rare forms of disease in every section I have had some experience. To fill in the gaps of my own knowledge I have used that of others, but have always sought to make suitable acknowledgment to the proper source, and if this has not been done in any case, it has been a matter of oversight. I had not, at the outset, expected to illustrate the work, but, as it progressed, a certain number of illustrations seemed necessary, not only to explain the text, but also, in a few instances, to render clearer the treatment described. Thus the number of charts and other drawings has grown to nearly a hundred, all of which, it is hoped, will be found useful. In expectation of the ultimate adoption of the metric system for the measuring of doses, these have been indicated throughout the book in the metric and English measures. Acknowledgment is due to Dr. Joseph P. Walsh and Mr. M. A. Morin for suggestions after reading the text, to Dr. William Schleif for material assistance in Section XV, and to my son, Dr. T. Mellor Tyson, for assistance throughout the work and especially in preparing the index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
