Book High speed Rail in Texas

Download or read book High speed Rail in Texas written by Sara K Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-speed rail is popular across Asia and Europe but not well utilized in the United States. The success of railway projects in the U.S. depends upon urban-rural cooperation as routes connecting cities require rural land. This study examines interest in high-speed rail using data from the UTDallas COMETrends research project, a content analysis of the Texans Against High-Speed Rail (TAHSR) Facebook page, and data from the Texas Community Leaders Project in order to determine public interest in high-speed rail and the role the urban-rural political divide may play in its establishment. The results indicate while rural or urban residency do not appear to impact perceptions of high-speed rail, political polarization may impact its successful implementation in the U.S. The content analysis determined that partisan messaging was used in TAHSR Facebook posts, but that framing high-speed rail as a Republican cause may boost support in counties with an overwhelming Republican majority. However, information from the Texas Community Leaders Survey revealed that rural leaders are not uniformly opposed to highspeed rail, resulting in questions regarding rural leadership to be explored in future research.

Book Future Travel Demand and Its Implications for Transportation Infrastructure Investments in the Texas Triangle

Download or read book Future Travel Demand and Its Implications for Transportation Infrastructure Investments in the Texas Triangle written by Ming Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study takes a megaregion approach to project future travel demand and choice of transport modes in the Texas Triangle, which is encompassed by four major metropolitan areas, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. The model was developed based on three behavioral characteristics of human travel. First, as income grows, demand for more and faster mobility increases. Second, on average, individuals allocate 1-1.5 hours per capita per day for travel. Third, people allocate 10-15% of per capita personal income for transportation related expenses. Measured by person-kilometers of travel (PKT), the total mobility demand in the Triangle region is projected to grow nearly four times from 480 billion in year 2000 to 1.8 trillion in year 2050. Per capita PKT is expected to increase from 32,700 to 61,000 for the same time period. The projections show that more than 70% of the year 2050 travel demand likely comes from high-speed travel at 600 km per hour. The study results call for serious consideration of investing in high-speed travel in the form of High Speed Rail (HSP) now in order to accommodate the future travel demand in the Triangle Region.
