Book Construction and Tests of Reinforced Concrete Floor Slabs and Reinforced Concrete Floor System

Download or read book Construction and Tests of Reinforced Concrete Floor Slabs and Reinforced Concrete Floor System written by Hugh Chilton Rogers and published by . This book was released on 1911 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the use of reinforced concrete for the construction of buildings, it is of importance that the structure be made as light as is consistent with strength. Especially is this true of concrete floors in concrete or steel structures where the dead load of the floor is an important item; being usually a large per cent of the designed working load. The cost of forms in the placing of concrete is one of the very important items in the construction of concrete floors. This is especially true for floors at elevated heights, such as the higher floors of office buildings, factories and warehouses. Where such floors are of "monolithic" or solid construction, the forms must be built in place and all material hoisted and poured into them. As these tight forms are often difficult to remove without injury, they can only be used a few times. In the following design of floor system, some of these difficulties are eliminated. The beams and columns are constructed in place, much the same as in the monolithic system, while the slabs may be built at any time or place and later hoisted into position. These slabs may be manufactured in sets of standard forms which can be used over and over again. When convenient, the slab's may be made at some locality other than the building site, and then be hauled or even shipped to the place of construction.

Book Design and Testing of a Blast resistant Reinforced Concrete Slab System

Download or read book Design and Testing of a Blast resistant Reinforced Concrete Slab System written by Marvin E. Criswell and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the investigation were to design and model test a blast-resistant reinforced concrete slab system serving as the roof of a basement shelter area. The slab system was designed to offer sufficient radiation and blast protection to insure a survival probability for its occupants of 85 to 95 percent for a fa 15-psi airblast overpressure loading. Static and dynamic tests were conducted on two 1/4-scale models of a prototype shelter. The prototype shelter, as designed, has a reinforced concrete flat slab roof consisting of three 18-foot spans in each direction supported by four interior columns and by a continuous wall around the perimeter. The model included the perimeter walls and different panel configurations which would influence the load-carrying capacity of the prototype structure. The slab system was designed using the empirical method of the 1963 American Concrete Institute Code with modifications to account for the dynamic loading effects. (Author).

Book Test and Analysis of Upgraded One Way Reinforced Concrete Floor Slabs

Download or read book Test and Analysis of Upgraded One Way Reinforced Concrete Floor Slabs written by Mark K. McVay and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of upgrading one-way reinforced concrete (R/C) slab floor systems for keyworker shelters was studied in this program. The objective was to develop competent designs for upgrading such systems that would use readily available materials, be easy to construct, and increase the load-carrying capacities of such systems to 50 psi or greater. Two upgrading methods were developed and evaluated: a wooden post method and a steel beam method. For the wooden post method, several 4- by 4-inch timbers were placed in groups under the midspan of the slabs. These groups acted as units to form columns large enough to accept large loads and provide sufficient bearing area. For the steel beam method, the floor slab panels were supported at midspan with a series of small steel beams held up by steel pipe columns. The components were kept small enough so two or three people could handle them. The existing beams of the floor systems were upgraded with additional posts in both methods.
