Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams In the determination of the values Of the deformations, all extensometer motions, no matter how many times the load may have been released, are referred to-the position of the rollers at the beginning of the test as zero and no attention has been paid to the set of the beam. Diagrams. - Load deformation curves, deflection curves, and position of the neutral axis are shown in Fig. 21 to 41. The curve marked Upper Fiber represents the deformation per unit of length at the compression face of the beam. The curve marked Steel indicates the deformation per unit of length in the plane of the reinforcement, and considers that the steel elongates the same as the concrete at the same depth. The curve of deflection has a separate scale of abscissas. The applied load is here used and no account is taken of the weight of the beam, which has already stressed the fibers at the time the extensometers are read at zero load. The diagram at the top of the figure shows as ordi nates the positions Of the neutral axis corresponding to the loads given on the scale of abscissas. The upper and lower lines of the diagram represent the top and the bottom of the beam, but in the case of reinforced concrete beams the position of the neutral axis is given in per cent., not of the total depth, but of the distance from the compression face 'to the center of the metal reinforce ment. Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams Vol 14 written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams, Vol. 14: Series of 1906 Stone. The stone for the Joint Committee tests was a good quality of limestone from Kankakee, Illinois, ordered screened through a 1-in. Screen and over a f-in. Screen. It contained from 4570 to 50% voids and weighed 85 lb. Per cu. Ft. Loose. The stone for the Experiment Station tests was also a Kankakee limestone somewhat softer than the other, screened as above, and contained 50% to 5470 voids. It was somewhat finer than the Joint Commit tee stone. In the determination of the voids in both stone and sand, the material was poured slowly into the water SO that the voids became filled with water and no air was caught. Book A Test of Three Large Reinforced Concrete Beams Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Test of Three Large Reinforced Concrete Beams Classic Reprint written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Test of Three Large Reinforced Concrete Beams The beams were in the form of slabs, 25 ft. Long, 6 ft. 3 in. Wide, and 34 in. Deep at the middle, and weighed about 33 tons each. They were built for use in the bridge floor over subways. The slabs span the distance from the curb to the center of the street pavement (shorter and smaller slabs spanning the sidewalk space) making a floor over the street upon which the ballast is spread and the track laid for the eight track railroad. The slabs were built in the yards of the Illinois Central Railroad near Twenty seventh St., Chicago, and were to be left where made until ready for transportation to their destination, some seven miles away. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Shear Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams In order to determine with sufficient certainty whether beams of rectangular cross section and long, slender beams would show web stresses and shearing strengths nearly the same as those for the beams tested it would be necessary to test such beams in considerable number. However, this question becomes unimportant practically, because rectangular or slender beams generally will fail by tension or compression in a longitudinal direction, with web stresses so low as to present no unusual problems of web reinforcement. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams: Series of 1905 It will be noted that the problems are made as simple as pos sible with a view of getting data bearing on the establishment of principles, and for this reason the number of variables was made as small as possible. The experience gained in the tests of the Series of 1904 was taken advantage of. Supervision of this work was given by R. V. Engstrom, Instructor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, whose aid in this and in planning the tests and in interpreting the results has added much to the value of the work. Acknowledgment is also made to D. A. Abrams, Assistant in Laboratory of Applied Mechanics, for aid in the preparation of this bulletin. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams: Modulus of Elasticity for Various Ages and Mixtures In this thesis by modulus of elasticity is meant the relation which would exist between stress and deformation if the concrete would compress uniformly at the rate it compress-, es for the lower stresses. Book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams

Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams written by Edwin Walker Buxton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams: Effect of Bending and Anchoring Reinforcing Bars During the school year l9o4 - 'o5, five beams were tested at the University of Illinois with the reinforcing bars bent up. Little was learned from these tests except that the rods were bent up too near the center of the beam and that it might be well to anchor the rods. The tendency of a beam to fail by shear is great where the rods in the beam are all horizontal. That this can be remedied by a proper bending and anchoring of the rods can not be doubted. With this object in view the beams used in the present test were made. Nineteen beams in all were made, all having the same cross - section and Span and all limited to about 1% reinforcement. Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams Vol 6 written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete, Beams, Vol. 6: Resistance to Web Stresses Series of 1907 and 1908 The Engineering Experiment Station was established by action of the Board of Trustees December 8, 1903. It is the purpose of the Station to carry on investigations along various lines of engineering and to study problems of importance to professional engineers and to the manufacturing, railway, mining, constructional, and industrial interests of the State. The control of the Engineering Experiment Station is vested in the heads of the several departments of the College of Engineering. These constitute the Station Staff, and with the Director, determine the character of the investigations to be undertaken. The work is carried on under the supervision of the Staff; sometimes by a research fellow as graduate work, sometimes by a member of the instructional force of the College of Engineering, but more frequently by an investigator belonging to the Station corps. The results of these investigations are published in the form of bulletins, which record mostly the experiments of the Station's own staff of investigators. There will also be issued from time to time in the form of circulars, compilations giving the results Of the experiments of engineers, industrial works, technical institutions, and governmental testing departments. The volume and number at the top of the title page of the cover are merely arbitrary numbers and refer to the general publications of the University of Illinois; above the title is given the number of the Engineering Experiment Station bulletin or circular, which should be used in referring to these publications. For copies of bulletins, circulars or other information address the Engineering Experiment Station, Urbana, Illinois.
