Book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams Vol 14

Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams Vol 14 written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams, Vol. 14: Series of 1906 Stone. The stone for the Joint Committee tests was a good quality of limestone from Kankakee, Illinois, ordered screened through a 1-in. Screen and over a f-in. Screen. It contained from 4570 to 50% voids and weighed 85 lb. Per cu. Ft. Loose. The stone for the Experiment Station tests was also a Kankakee limestone somewhat softer than the other, screened as above, and contained 50% to 5470 voids. It was somewhat finer than the Joint Commit tee stone. In the determination of the voids in both stone and sand, the material was poured slowly into the water SO that the voids became filled with water and no air was caught. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams In the determination of the values Of the deformations, all extensometer motions, no matter how many times the load may have been released, are referred to-the position of the rollers at the beginning of the test as zero and no attention has been paid to the set of the beam. Diagrams. - Load deformation curves, deflection curves, and position of the neutral axis are shown in Fig. 21 to 41. The curve marked Upper Fiber represents the deformation per unit of length at the compression face of the beam. The curve marked Steel indicates the deformation per unit of length in the plane of the reinforcement, and considers that the steel elongates the same as the concrete at the same depth. The curve of deflection has a separate scale of abscissas. The applied load is here used and no account is taken of the weight of the beam, which has already stressed the fibers at the time the extensometers are read at zero load. The diagram at the top of the figure shows as ordi nates the positions Of the neutral axis corresponding to the loads given on the scale of abscissas. The upper and lower lines of the diagram represent the top and the bottom of the beam, but in the case of reinforced concrete beams the position of the neutral axis is given in per cent., not of the total depth, but of the distance from the compression face 'to the center of the metal reinforce ment. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams: Series of 1905 It will be noted that the problems are made as simple as pos sible with a view of getting data bearing on the establishment of principles, and for this reason the number of variables was made as small as possible. The experience gained in the tests of the Series of 1904 was taken advantage of. Supervision of this work was given by R. V. Engstrom, Instructor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, whose aid in this and in planning the tests and in interpreting the results has added much to the value of the work. Acknowledgment is also made to D. A. Abrams, Assistant in Laboratory of Applied Mechanics, for aid in the preparation of this bulletin. Download or read book A Test of Three Large Reinforced Concrete Beams Classic Reprint written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Test of Three Large Reinforced Concrete Beams The beams were in the form of slabs, 25 ft. Long, 6 ft. 3 in. Wide, and 34 in. Deep at the middle, and weighed about 33 tons each. They were built for use in the bridge floor over subways. The slabs span the distance from the curb to the center of the street pavement (shorter and smaller slabs spanning the sidewalk space) making a floor over the street upon which the ballast is spread and the track laid for the eight track railroad. The slabs were built in the yards of the Illinois Central Railroad near Twenty seventh St., Chicago, and were to be left where made until ready for transportation to their destination, some seven miles away. Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams Vol 2 written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-12 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete Beams, Vol. 2: Bulletin No; 1 of the University of Illinois Engineering Experiment Station The investigation herein described was undertaken with the hope of adding somewhat to the knowledge of reinforced concrete and of helping to uncover the field for future experimentation. The tests were made in the Laboratory of Applied Mechanics of the University of Illinois. In addition, to the experiments on reinforced concrete beams, tests were conducted on concrete beams, on bond of steel and concrete, and on the elasticity and strength of concrete in tension and compression along lines which promised to have a bearing upon the properties of reinforced concrete beams. The work was done principally as thesis work. The data have now been worked over and the Calculations checked, new drawings made, and results more fully studied and discussed. The thesis on Flexure of Plain and Reinforced Concrete Beams was presented by Messrs. R. V. Engstrom, F. E. Mills, S. D. Brown, and R. J. Blackburn, Of the class of 1904. The thesis on Adhesive Bond of Concrete and Steel was presented by J. W. Davis, of the class Of 1904. The work on the elasticity and strength of concrete in tension and compression is being carried on by R. H. Slocum, Instructor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, as graduate work. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Bond Resistance Between Concrete and Steel Most of the available data on bond resistance are based on pull out tests similar to those reported in Section II, in which the con crete block is in compression. Such tests have been shown 2 to agree reasonably well at corresponding slips with bond tests of reinforced concrete beams in which the ends of the reinforcing bars were embedded in a region. Either of compressive stress or of low tensile stress. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Flat Slab Structures Vol 13 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Tests of Reinforced Concrete Flat Slab Structures Vol 13 Classic Reprint written by Arthur N. Talbot and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tests of Reinforced Concrete, Flat Slab Structures, Vol. 13 1. Purpose and Scope. It is the purpose of this bulletin to present the results of certain tests made on four reinforced concrete buildings and one reinforced concrete test structure. These tests were made with a view of getting experimental information on the action of the concrete and the reinforcing bars in floor slabs of the flat slab type of building construction. Data were obtained also on the bending action of the supporting columns. Efforts were made to find the distribution of stress in the bands of reinforcement both laterally and longitudinally, and that of the compressive stresses in the concrete on the opposite face of the slab; these in the regions of both the negative bending moment and of the positive bending moment. The description of the methods used in making the test is limited to those features which are different from the methods used in the tests described in Bulletin No.64 of the University of Illinois Engineering Experiment Station, "Tests of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Under Load," and from the methods described in a paper on "The Use of the Strain Gage in the Testing of Materials." It will be appreciated that the circumstances surrounding the floor test of a building are unfavorable to securing definite and uniform quantitative results. The structure is not homogeneous. There is a distribution of the resistance afforded by the structure to parts beyond the portion which is loaded. Effects of changes in temperature are troublesome. The stresses developed in the steel and in the concrete are small and there is considerable variation between parts which are supposedly similar in action. The conditions under which the measurement of deformation must be made are unfavorable to securing exactness. The location and presence of the loading material also add to the difficulties of the work. It will be seen that it is impracticable to obtain complete information or to formulate conclusions which are entirely definite.
