Book Sustainability of Concrete With Synthetic and Recycled Aggregates

Download or read book Sustainability of Concrete With Synthetic and Recycled Aggregates written by Hosam Saleh and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is a material used widely in building and construction applications worldwide; hence, it plays a significant role in the global construction sector. Cement is a major component of concrete and is used in construction applications, either on its own or as a composite with other materials, to improve workability, durability, strength, weight, and shrinkage. However, cement and concrete production and use have adverse environmental effects. Thus, great efforts have been made to produce eco-friendly concrete. This book examines several aspects of sustainable concrete technologies, including new forms of concrete as well as different approaches for creating sustainable cement.

Book Fundamentals of Durable Reinforced Concrete

Download or read book Fundamentals of Durable Reinforced Concrete written by Mark G. Richardson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition sets out the fundamental aspects of concrete durability with an emphasis on sustainability and carbon neutrality through performance-based methodologies. Global approaches to managing durability are explained from both a prescriptive and performance viewpoint. Achieving a balance between the interactive factors influencing durability and sustainability is supported by an explanation of the physical and chemical phenomena at play, determination of key performance parameters by mathematical modelling and physical testing, and current guidance for good practice. New chapters and sections examine the holistic approach to durability and significant aspects of traditional and new cementitious systems. The full range of threats to durability are covered in this single volume, including reinforcement corrosion, carbonation, chloride ingress, freeze-thaw effects, sulfate attack, acid and seawater attack, alkali-aggregate reaction, cracking, abrasion, erosion, cavitation, and weathering. The book presents a framework for specification through internationally adopted codes and standards and summarises the background to probabilistic approaches to durability design, providing a state-of-the-art review of mathematical modelling of deterioration mechanisms along with current directions in test methods for performance-based specifications. Fundamentals of Durable Reinforced Concrete is an essential reference on concrete durability for specifiers and researchers and is also accessible to undergraduate students.

Book Lifetime Oriented Structural Design Concepts

Download or read book Lifetime Oriented Structural Design Concepts written by Friedhelm Stangenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-26 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety and reliability are important for the whole expected service duration of an engineering structure. Therefore, prognostical solutions for different building types are needed and uncertainties have to be handled. Life-cycle strategies to control future structural degradations by concepts of appropriate design have to be developed, in case including means of inspection, maintenance, and repair. Aspects of costs and sustainability also matter. The Cooperative Research Center for Lifetime-Oriented Design Concepts (SFB 398) at Ruhr University in Bochum combines the wide range of scientific topics between structural engineering, structural and soil mechanics and material sciences regarding structural lifetime management in this present extraordinary monolithic format. The characterization and modeling of lifetime-related external actions of multiple origin are presented in this book as well as the physical description, the modeling and the validation of material degradation. Adaptive numerical methods and simulation techniques are provided for the lifetime-oriented design concepts to forecast material and structural degradation. Stochastic aspects, mathematical optimization methods and interactions between various influences are included. Thus, a solid basis is provided for future practical use and also for standardization of structural design with respect to lifetime-prediction.

Book Resistance of Concrete to Freezing and Thawing

Download or read book Resistance of Concrete to Freezing and Thawing written by Donald J. Janssen and published by Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp).
