Book Modelling Nonlinear Economic Time Series

Download or read book Modelling Nonlinear Economic Time Series written by Timo Teräsvirta and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-12-16 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an extensive up-to-date overview of nonlinear time series models and their application to modelling economic relationships. It considers nonlinear models in stationary and nonstationary frameworks, and both parametric and nonparametric models are discussed. The book contains examples of nonlinear models in economic theory and presents the most common nonlinear time series models. Importantly, it shows the reader how to apply these models in practice. For thispurpose, the building of various nonlinear models with its three stages of model building: specification, estimation and evaluation, is discussed in detail and is illustrated by several examples involving both economic and non-economic data. Since estimation of nonlinear time series models is carried outusing numerical algorithms, the book contains a chapter on estimating parametric nonlinear models and another on estimating nonparametric ones.Forecasting is a major reason for building time series models, linear or nonlinear. The book contains a discussion on forecasting with nonlinear models, both parametric and nonparametric, and considers numerical techniques necessary for computing multi-period forecasts from them. The main focus of the book is on models of the conditional mean, but models of the conditional variance, mainly those of autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity, receive attention as well. A separate chapter isdevoted to state space models. As a whole, the book is an indispensable tool for researchers interested in nonlinear time series and is also suitable for teaching courses in econometrics and time series analysis.

Book A Nonlinear Time Series Workshop

Download or read book A Nonlinear Time Series Workshop written by Douglas M. Patterson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complex dynamic behavior exhibited by many nonlinear systems - chaos, episodic volatility bursts, stochastic regimes switching - has attracted a good deal of attention in recent years. A Nonlinear Time Series Workshop provides the reader with both the statistical background and the software tools necessary for detecting nonlinear behavior in time series data. The most useful existing detection techniques are described, including Engle's LaGrange Multiplier test for conditional hetero-skedasticity and tests based on the correlation dimension and on the estimated bispectrum. These techniques are illustrated using actual data from fields such as economics, finance, engineering, and geophysics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a useful combination of probabilistic and statistical tools for analyzing nonlinear time series. Key features of the book include a study of the extremal behavior of nonlinear time series and a comprehensive list of nonlinear models that address different aspects of nonlinearity. Several inferential methods, including quasi likelihood methods, sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods and particle filters, are also included so as to provide an overall view of the available tools for parameter estimation for nonlinear models. A chapter on integer time series models based on several thinning operations, which brings together all recent advances made in this area, is also included. Readers should have attended a prior course on linear time series, and a good grasp of simulation-based inferential methods is recommended. This book offers a valuable resource for second-year graduate students and researchers in statistics and other scientific areas who need a basic understanding of nonlinear time series.

Download or read book Nonlinear Time Series written by Jiti Gao and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful in the theoretical and empirical analysis of nonlinear time series data, semiparametric methods have received extensive attention in the economics and statistics communities over the past twenty years. Recent studies show that semiparametric methods and models may be applied to solve dimensionality reduction problems arising from using fully nonparametric models and methods. Answering the call for an up-to-date overview of the latest developments in the field, Nonlinear Time Series: Semiparametric and Nonparametric Methods focuses on various semiparametric methods in model estimation, specification testing, and selection of time series data. After a brief introduction, the book examines semiparametric estimation and specification methods and then applies these approaches to a class of nonlinear continuous-time models with real-world data. It also assesses some newly proposed semiparametric estimation procedures for time series data with long-range dependence. Even though the book only deals with climatological and financial data, the estimation and specifications methods discussed can be applied to models with real-world data in many disciplines. This resource covers key methods in time series analysis and provides the necessary theoretical details. The latest applied finance and financial econometrics results and applications presented in the book enable researchers and graduate students to keep abreast of developments in the field.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an econometric analysis concerned with the problems of testing for the existence of stochastic or deterministic trends in series which possess structural breaks. It opens with a survey of many of the available tests for unit roots, providing, at the same time, an introduction to the theory of testing for unit roots against both dixed and non-fixed trend-stationary alternatives.

Book Chaos Theory in Economics

Book excerpt: A collection of essays which bring together three basic aspects of research into nonlinear dynamics and economics. The first papers deal with the theoretical methods used in analyzing chaotic dynamics and the statistical tools to detect the presence of non-linearities in economic data. The following articles discuss the models which are currently being used to stimulate nonlinear economic phenomena. The final papers apply these methods to a number of economic time series.

Book Elements of Nonlinear Time Series Analysis and Forecasting

Download or read book Elements of Nonlinear Time Series Analysis and Forecasting written by Jan G. De Gooijer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art of nonlinear time series analysis, richly illustrated with examples, pseudocode algorithms and real-world applications. Avoiding a “theorem-proof” format, it shows concrete applications on a variety of empirical time series. The book can be used in graduate courses in nonlinear time series and at the same time also includes interesting material for more advanced readers. Though it is largely self-contained, readers require an understanding of basic linear time series concepts, Markov chains and Monte Carlo simulation methods. The book covers time-domain and frequency-domain methods for the analysis of both univariate and multivariate (vector) time series. It makes a clear distinction between parametric models on the one hand, and semi- and nonparametric models/methods on the other. This offers the reader the option of concentrating exclusively on one of these nonlinear time series analysis methods. To make the book as user friendly as possible, major supporting concepts and specialized tables are appended at the end of every chapter. In addition, each chapter concludes with a set of key terms and concepts, as well as a summary of the main findings. Lastly, the book offers numerous theoretical and empirical exercises, with answers provided by the author in an extensive solutions manual.

Book Nonlinear Economic Time Series as a Testbed for Dynamic Macro Models Including Finance

Download or read book Nonlinear Economic Time Series as a Testbed for Dynamic Macro Models Including Finance written by Michael Wood and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is consequent upon an earlier paper of mine (Non linear economic time series as a test bed for dynamic macro models) which was an exercise in using nonlinear time series analysis (NLTS) to assess the fit of a dynamic nonlinear macro economic process, the Goodwin model, against “realworld” nonlinear time series. This paper extends that approach to address models which include Finance and Debt as variables. Notably the work of Professor S Keen, This, Finance and Debt, is something notably missing from Goodwin's models.
