Book Practical Testing and Evaluation of Plastics

Download or read book Practical Testing and Evaluation of Plastics written by Achim Frick and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-03-18 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering with polymers is a growing technical field which requires special knowledge. Filling a need, this ready reference brings together the hard-to-get and recently acquired knowledge usually only found scattered in the original literature. At the beginning, the reference introduces plastics as a class of technical materials, gives an overview of their properties, presents plastics processing and its possible influence on the achievable quality of plastic parts. Afterwards, plastics testing is presented as a separate, practical-scientific field of work. The possibilities and fields of application of plastics testing will be discussed. This is followed by a comprehensive treatment of the individual, relevant test areas for the characterization and qualification of plastics and plastic molded parts made from them, with descriptions of the corresponding, practical test methods. A comprehensive index provides easy access to relevant information for successful engineering with plastics and suitable methods for material characterization and for quality assurance and damage analysis of parts. Written by experienced academics and industrial researchers and developers who know the problems of plastics engineers in their daily work - and the solutions - inside out, this book offers first-hand practical knowledge and intensive discussion. The book is aimed at industry, scientists and students involved in plastics and plastic engineering and aims to help them gain the necessary understanding of polymer materials and knowledge of practical testing and evaluation of plastics.

Book Polymer Testing

Download or read book Polymer Testing written by Wolfgang Grellmann and published by Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH Co KG. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid growth and development in plastics production and application created a demand for meaningful measuring and analysis methods in polymer testing. Advances in electronic measuring techniques led to further developments in classic testing methods as well as to completely new methods, for which the first edition of Polymer Testing was written. Considerable advances in the evaluation of structure-property correlations and standardization have taken place since the first edition of Polymer Testing, so the book has been comprehensively revised. This updated edition covers the latest developments in the field, including amendments to the most important polymer testing standards. Included in this edition is essential information about damage processes and deformation mechanisms that can be discovered with the help of coupled non-destructive polymer testing methods and hybrid methods of polymer diagnostics, respectively. Numerous examples for the optimization of polymers and their composites and the assessment of component properties provide a material science focused insight into modern polymer testing. Contents: Preparation of Specimens Determining Process-Related Properties Mechanical Properties of Polymers Fracture Toughness Measurements in Engineering Plastics Testing of Physical Properties Evaluating Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance Non-Destructive Polymer Testing Hybrid Methods of Polymer Diagnostics Testing of Composite Materials Technological Testing Methods Testing of Microcomponents

Book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics

Download or read book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics written by D R Moore and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-11-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoplastics, being non-linear viscoelastic, impose constraints on testing. End products manufactured from these thermopolastics are often anisotropic and tend to complicate the relationships between laboratory test data and service performance. Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastic Materials explains new testing strategies for providing service-pertinent data within a limited budget. It relates the structure of the tests and the functions that they serve to the intrinsic nature of the mechanical properties of thermoplastic materials.

Book Measurement Uncertainty in Analysis of Plastics

Download or read book Measurement Uncertainty in Analysis of Plastics written by Bruno Wampfler and published by Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH Co KG. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement uncertainty is an important component of modern materials analysis: it indicates the boundaries within which the test results can be trusted. Such results are necessary for understanding of, for example, material and product tolerances and lifetimes, vital for plastic product reliability and safety. Determination of measurement uncertainty is normally quite laborious, but this book shows how the available interlaboratory test data for plastics can be used to calculate measurement uncertainty much more simply. It contains many interlaboratory test results in the fields of thermoanalysis, molar mass determination, and quantitative analysis of the composition of material, presented in tables and graphical charts, discussed in the text, and elaborated by practical examples. In addition to the evaluation by means of the presented data (top-down approach), the relationship to the bottom-up approach specified in the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) is explained based on an example. Further sections deal with sampling, and the issue of whether or not the difference between analytical results is significant.

Book A Multiaxial Fatigue Test for Evaluation of Plastics Composite Materials

Download or read book A Multiaxial Fatigue Test for Evaluation of Plastics Composite Materials written by Marlin A. Kinna and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An NOL Multiaxial Fatigue Test Method has been developed to obtain information on the dynamic properties of plastics composite materials. The test method uses an NOL ring segment as the test specimen, and strain gages mounted on a specially prepared post are used to monitor the resistance of the specimen to the applied multiaxial load. Results obtained in a statistical experiment set-up to evaluate the test method show that it is capable of differentiating between materials and/or fabrication parameters. In addition, reproducibility of the results is within the limits of accuracy relating to the winding, curing, and handling conditions imposed on the ring segments prior to testing. (Author).
