Book Infantry Weapons Test Methodology Study Volume 3 Light Machine Gun Test Methodology

Download or read book Infantry Weapons Test Methodology Study Volume 3 Light Machine Gun Test Methodology written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resources expended on the Machine Gun Test Methodology Study can be categorized into two specific efforts: (1) A study of operational testing of small arms to apply results of improved small arms test procedures to machine gun weapon system evaluation, and (2) expansion of the test facilities to permit more realistic tactical scenarios to be used during machine gun testing. The two steps were not done independently; the findings from the study dictated the additions to the test facilities. From the Infantry Machine Gun Project Review, which identified all combat actions performed by Infantry units in which machine guns are normally employed and which delineated all the specific tasks required by the operator and/or crew, a test design was prepared. The design specifically examines the three major techniques of employment used with the machine gun: unsupported firing (hip position, underarm position, and shoulder position), bipod supported position and tripod mounted position. Only direct fire tests are employed removing from consideration position defilade firing.

This is done by: (a) recording the displacement of gun components relative to time and distance through the use of a displacement-time camera; and (b) measuring the impulse and recoil of small-caliber weapons by means of the ballistic pendulum. The pendulum discussion is limited to the five- wire and three wire suspended pendulums. Various methods and instrumentation, both optical-mechanical and electro-optical, may be used for recording the dynamic characteristics of weapon mechanisms.

Book Small Unit Action in Vietnam Summer 1966

Download or read book Small Unit Action in Vietnam Summer 1966 written by Francis J. West, Jr. and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-10 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of this publication lies in the continuing program at all levels of command to keep Marines informed of the ways of combat and civic action in Vietnam. Not limited in any way to set methods and means, this informational effort spreads across a wide variety of projects, all aimed at making the lessons learned in Vietnam available to the Marine who is fighting there and the Marine who is soon due to take his turn in combat. Recognizing a need to inform the men who are the key to the success of Marine Corps operations—the enlisted Marines and junior officers of combat and combat support units—the former Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, Major General William R. Collins, originated a project to provide a timely series of short, factual narratives of small unit action, stories which would have lessons learned as an integral part. Essential to General Collins' concept was the fact that the stories would have to be both highly readable and historically accurate. The basic requirement called for an author trained in the methodology of research, with recent active duty experience at the small unit level in the FMF, and a proven ability to write in e style that would ensure wide readership. This publication, then, is based upon first-hand, eyewitness accounting of the events described. It is documented by notes and taped interviews taken in the field and includes lessons learned from the mouths of the Marines who are currently fighting in Vietnam. It is published for the information of those men who are serving and who will serve in Vietnam, as well as for the use of other interested Americans, so that they may better understand the demands of the Vietnam conflict on the individual Marine.

Book Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Manual of Tests and Criteria contains criteria, test methods and procedures to be used for classification of dangerous goods according to the provisions of Parts 2 and 3 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Model Regulations, as well as of chemicals presenting physical hazards according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). As a consequence, it supplements also national or international regulations which are derived from the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods or the GHS. At its ninth session (7 December 2018), the Committee adopted a set of amendments to the sixth revised edition of the Manual as amended by Amendment 1. This seventh revised edition takes account of these amendments. In addition, noting that the work to facilitate the use of the Manual in the context of the GHS had been completed, the Committee considered that the reference to the "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" in the title of the Manual was no longer appropriate, and decided that from now on, the Manual should be entitled "Manual of Tests and Criteria".
