Book Consumed by Hate Redeemed by Love

Download or read book Consumed by Hate Redeemed by Love written by Thomas A. Tarrants and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Riveting, inspiring, at times hard to believe but utterly true...it gives some measure of hope in these rancorous times." -- John Grisham As an ordinary high school student in the 1960s, Tom Tarrants became deeply unsettled by the social upheaval of the era. In response, he turned for answers to extremist ideology and was soon utterly radicalized. Before long, he became involved in the reign of terror spread by Mississippi's dreaded White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, described by the FBI as the most violent right-wing terrorist organization in America. In 1969, while attempting to bomb the home of a Jewish leader in Meridian, Mississippi, Tom was ambushed by law enforcement and shot multiple times during a high-speed chase. Nearly dead from his wounds, he was arrested and sentenced to thirty years in the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman Farm. Unrepentant, Tom and two other inmates made a daring escape from Parchman yet were tracked down by an FBI SWAT team and apprehended in hail of bullets that killed one of the convicts. Tom spent the next three years alone in a six-foot-by-nine-foot cell. There he began a search for truth that led him to the Bible and a reading of the gospels, resulting in his conversion to Jesus Christ and liberation from the grip of racial hatred and violence. Astounded by the change in Tom, many of the very people who worked to put him behind bars began advocating for his release. After serving eight years of a 35-year sentence, Tom left prison. He attended college, moved to Washington, DC, and became copastor of a racially mixed church. He went on to earn a doctorate and became the president of the C. S. Lewis Institute, where he devoted himself to helping others become wholehearted followers of Jesus. A dramatic story of radical transformation, Consumed by Hate, Redeemed by Love demonstrates that hope is not lost even in the most tumultuous of times, even those similar to our own. "As a kid in Mississippi in the late 1960's, I remember the men of our church discussing the Klan's bombing campaign against the Jews. The men did not disapprove. Later, I would use this fascinating chapter of civil rights history as the backdrop for my novel The Chamber. Now, one of the bombers, Thomas Tarrants, tells the real story in this remarkable memoir. It is riveting, inspiring, at times hard to believe but utterly true, and it gives some measure of hope in these rancorous times." --John Grisham "Dramatic...Simply astonishing...Essential reading for these times. If you want to understand how the evil of extremist thought works--and how the gospel of God’s grace can overcome it--read this book." --Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of The Circle Maker, lead pastor of National Community Church "Amazing...Gives hope for what God can do." --Dr. John Perkins, president emeritus, John Perkins Foundation; co-founder emeritus, Christian Community Development Association "A riveting narrative." --Russell Moore, president, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention "This gripping and inspiring story is as timely as today’s headlines....Put on your seatbelt and prepare to enter into one of the most extraordinary true stories you’ll ever encounter!" --Lee Strobel, best-selling author of The Case for Christ and The Case for Grace "Reveals how easily a political ideology can grow into a radical, extreme, life-taking worldview, all the while masquerading for some supposed form of a 'Christian' faith....A powerful story!" --Eric C. Redmond, associate professor of Bible, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago

Book Terrorist to Evangelist

Download or read book Terrorist to Evangelist written by G. Brent Riggs and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having been promoted to a senior leadership position in the Ulster Freedom Fighters, I was not satisfied with destroying my own life. I now possessed the authority to take others with me.Born into abject poverty and lower working-class Belfast, Ireland, Kenny McClinton became as rough as the life he was forced to live. From a violent, drunken father to abusive boys homes, from the merchant navy to a sadistic prison, from terrorism to salvation...this is Kenny's remarkable and gut-wrenching story of how the Lord rescued him from a life not worth living. After being discharged from the merchant navy, a shiftless Kenny was looking for a new way to fund his alcoholism. Instead he found purpose. His vices met their fullest potential when the Irish Republic Army (IRA) and the reactionary Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) first began their campaign. Caught up in the brotherhood of Northern Ireland nationalism, the street-smart scrapper soon rose to the top of the UFF. But one misstep sent Kenny to the bottom again. Imprisoned side-by-side with his IRA enemies and UFF brothers, Kenny must fight. Fight for physical survival. Fight for political rights. Fight the mental demons that spurred him to such lengths that he was nicknamed 'The Maniac' by prison guards. This is the story of Kenny McClinton, former terrorist, now an evangelist; once spreading death, now spreading life; once born to lose, now born again.

Book The Secret Weapon Against Terrorism

Download or read book The Secret Weapon Against Terrorism written by Daniel Ogweno and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-10 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Ogweno is not seeking God's best answer for terrorism but God's personal intervention. He points out the difference it makes when God Himself shows up in the hearts of both the terrorist and the terrorized. God's law, for example, is perfect-His best (Psalm 19:7), but some religious people almost executed a woman based on their understanding of this law. All this changed when, instead of "God's best," God Himself showed up (John 8:3-11). The books that have been written on terrorism are basically descriptive and informative. In this book, however, Ogweno compellingly turns the light on to the prescriptive and transformative Secret Weapon Against Terrorism. He maintains: "Our greatest desire is to bring back civility, sanity and security so that we can travel, work and gather in social places without fear. We don't seek to understand terrorism more than we long to stop it." This book, therefore, doesn't describe the problem, it prescribes the solution. In the morning hours of January 22nd 1989, Ogweno "stumbled" on what he had been unknowingly seeking-something that would quench the sensual cravings in his life. He met Christ and was sensationally saved. Since then, he has passionately pursued God's pleasure. Ogweno believes that God spoke to him, saying: 'I am going to give you My best!' But he answered and said: 'Lord, I need more than Your best; I need You-Personally!" That was Ogweno's quest. The result, as he puts it, "God didn't just give me His best, He gave me Himself in the person of Christ." Ogweno holds Bachelor of Education (Moi University, Kenya) and M.Phil. in Mass Communication and Media Studies (University of Bergen, Norway). He is married to Laura Caroline and they are blessed with two boys: Victor and Jim-Jif, and a girl: Baraka.

Book Taking America Back for God

Download or read book Taking America Back for God written by Andrew L. Whitehead and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do white Protestants in America embrace a president who seems to violate their basic standards of morality? The answer, Andrew Whitehead and Samuel Perry argue, is "Christian nationalism," the belief that the United States is -- and should be -- a Christian nation. Knowing someone's stance on Christian nationalism, this book shows, tells us more about his or her political beliefs than race, religion, or political party. Drawing on national survey data and interviews with Americans across the political spectrum, Taking America Back for God illustrates the tremendous influence of Christian nationalism on debates about the most contentious issues dominating American public life.

Through excommunication from his home and family, near-death experience, a miraculous healing, and a cross-continental chase for his life, Ali’s faith sustained him while also compelling him to bring the gospel to Muslims—no matter the cost. Book God s Answer to 21st Century Terrorists

Download or read book God s Answer to 21st Century Terrorists written by K. McKelvey Harvey K. McKelvey and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do we have terrorists today? Yes we do. Can we identify them? Yes we can. Are there political and religious terrorists today? Yes there are. Where can we find them today? Over the world, and in every nation. Do we have terrorists on the mission field? Yes we do. What are some of their actions so we may identify them? They burn churches and homes of Christians, they kill whole congregations, and they behead children going to and from school. They kill and imprison pastors and Christian leaders. What recourse do the Christians have? Until now they have been told to endure for God will avenge. But I say no, you have the power to stop this foolishness in its tracks. They can receive and believe the word, so that these terrorists become Christians just as Saul became Paul and the Syrian army became friendly with Israel. This is a "believing God thing." Not a man thing. In some nations of the world like in central Asia there are over 4 billion lost souls. The percentage of evangelical Christians among all of them is less than 5%. Jesus as we all know is coming soon, how are we to reach these before he comes? God's Answer to 21st Century Terrorists is a memorable account of a fresh historical perspective with unforgettable characters and with a touch of the supernatural. The apostle Paul was a First Century terrorist, killing and imprisoning Christians. The Lord Jesus Christ, Head of the Church, gave us an object lesson on how to win the terrorist. We need to use His plan today. Too many Christians are being slaughtered; their churches burned and whole congregations are threatened with violence.
