Book The Titanic in Print and on Screen

Download or read book The Titanic in Print and on Screen written by D. Brian Anderson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2005-04-05 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titanic scholars contend that the demise of "the unsinkable ship" left more behind than a memory of April 15, 1912, as an important point in history. Through books, films, stories, and songs, the archetypal shipwreck has endured as a metaphor for the perils of mankind's hubris and the fallibility of technology. In 1985, the discovery of the long-missing wreckage two miles below the surface of the Atlantic revitalized interest in the Titanic and spawned a new generation of books, films, and, for the first time, websites, and computer games. James Cameron's blockbuster Titanic became the biggest movie of all time and engendered still greater popular interest in the tragic event. This bibliography is a survey of the immense volume of literary, dramatic, and commercial endeavors that came out of history's most compelling shipwreck. Organized by genre in accessible categories and short entries, the book includes Titanic-inspired documentaries, narrative films, children's books, histories, short stories, novels, plays, articles, essays, software, websites, poems, and songs. Each entry includes a brief review, bibliographic information, and the technical details of the specific source. The reviews include subjective analysis designed to reflect the usefulness of the source and to be of benefit to researchers and scholars. Five appendices include lists of the actors appearing in more than one Titanic film, brief film and television appearances of the Titanic, films never or not yet released, books that survived the wreck, and books written by passengers.

Book Something s Alive on the Titanic

Download or read book Something s Alive on the Titanic written by Robert J. Serling and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-06-16 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They say that 'curiosity killed the cat' and that 'greed damns your soul', and seldom have these sayings been more terrifyingly true than in one of the greatest horror stories of our times, Robert J. Serling's bestselling 'Something's Alive on the Titanic'. Ten years before the official discovery, in 1985, of the Titanic in its watery grave by Dr. Robert Ballard, a code-breaker, Derek Montague, fixes on a reference in the Titanic's manifest to 'Sovereign Metals Ltd. - 34 cases nails, screws and bolts'. Montague knows that Sovereign Metals' operations centered on smuggling and what they usually smuggled was gold. So, in his mind at least, the Titanic was probably carrying 34 cases of gold bullion when it went down in 1912 - 34 cases that are still lying there for the taking by the first people smart enough and brave enough to retrieve them from a probable depth of a daunting 12,000 feet under the sea. And so an expedition is launched with mixed motives - to be the first people to discover the Titanic and understand what really happened on that fateful voyage, and to be the only people to profit from the shadowy riches that were buried with her. And so, with reverence to the actual findings of Dr. Robert Ballard's expedition and the language and attitudes of the times, this heroic, ghostly and tragic tale begins ....
