Book Terrestrial Multispectral Photography

Download or read book Terrestrial Multispectral Photography written by John F. Cronin and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: -Remote multispectral photographic sensing of the earth's surface may be a feasible means of identifying and discriminating between inorganic terrestrial materials differing in composition or physical characteristics. Simultaneous airborne and ground-based photographic and photometric studies of such sites as Mono Craters, California, indicate that within the range of the photographic spectrum (2900 A to 14000 A), the most promising region for the geologist and other earth scientists could be the wavelengths outside the visible spectrum.

Book Multispectral Photographic Studies of a Red bed Facies Minas Basin Nova Scotia

Download or read book Multispectral Photographic Studies of a Red bed Facies Minas Basin Nova Scotia written by George D. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For certain geologic-atmospheric interface environments, spectral photometric and photographic techniques are useful in three ways: first, to delineate lithologic units; second, to determine lithologic characteristics; and third, to provide information of the present environment. Investigations were conducted at two sites in the Minas Basin of Nova Scotia where variegated beds of the Triassic Wolfville and Blomidon formations are exposed. Laboratory spectrophotometric measurements, field photometric data, and narrow band photography of the sedimentary units demonstrate an increase, in the visible spectrum, of reflectivity with increase in wavelength of the incident radiant energy. Inorganic encrustations substantially alter the spectral characteristics of sedimentary units in situ. (Author).

Book Ultraviolet Radiation and the Terrestrial Surface

Download or read book Ultraviolet Radiation and the Terrestrial Surface written by John F. Cronin and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although variations in the intensity of solar ultraviolet irradiation of the Earth's surface may provide significant opportunities for observation in the ultraviolet spectrum, research in the ultraviolet region has been neglected by terrestrial scientists. The spectral properties of vegetation and soils and of undisturbed weathered natural surfaces of rocks and sediments, in situ, are unknown. Limited spectrophotometric data obtained in the laboratory, but of samples removed from their environment, indicate that there may be less distinctive spectral character in the ultraviolet than at the longer wavelengths. Spectral reconnaissance studies in the near-ultraviolet region are therefore warranted.

Book Remote Sensing

Download or read book Remote Sensing written by Harald Svensson and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parts of the electromagnetic spectrum are discussed, with the type(s) of sensor(s) required to record energy in each part. A review is given of the classes of airborne (and satellite) remote sensor data which are available to geoscientists. Different types of remote sensor data are described and examples provided, including panchromatic, infrared, color, and color infrared aerial photography (Kullaberg, Sweden); multispectral aerial photography (with importance of optimum film/filter combination for specific phenomena); airborne thermal infrared imagery (Kullaberg, Sweden and Surtsey, Iceland); side-looking airborne radar (Tuskahoma Syncline, Oklahoma); and radio sounding of glacial ice (Antarctica). The projected future increase in amount of remote sensor data will require computer processing techniques, although man will serve the most important role in the analysis and use of remote sensor information of the earth's surface.

Book Earth Science Applied to Military Use of Natural Terrain

Download or read book Earth Science Applied to Military Use of Natural Terrain written by Stanley M. Needleman and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of the state-of-the-art in the evaluation of natural terrain by earth-science techniques and measurement systems is presented in response to a need that existed for many years. This report considers the terrain as an envelope of the environment and all related parameters that are basic in an evaluation for relevant military applications such as unimproved landing areas, trafficability, site selection for operational facilities, terrain reconnaissance and surveillance, and target detection within a masked terrain complex. Methods of terrain-data acquisition, analysis, and evaluation and their limitations are reviewed. The status of research and development, specifying the gaps in technology, is summarized with accompanying conclusions. The report forecasts the requirement for an automated terrain-data acquisition, storage, and display system. Information pertaining to the classification of terrain data, field devices to measure bearing strength, and a visualized optimum remote sensing system is also given in the appendix. A glossary and a comprehensive bibliography are included. (Author).
