Book Surficial Geology of the Glenlyon Map Area Yukon Territory

Download or read book Surficial Geology of the Glenlyon Map Area Yukon Territory written by Brent C. Ward and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Glenlyon map area, located along the Pelly River in central Yukon, records at least three glaciations. This report presents results of surface mapping and geological studies in the area, beginning with an overview of the area's physiography, climate, bedrock, tectonics, and the regional Quaternary context. It continues with sections on the classification of landforms and surficial materials, mainly related to the glaciations; descriptions of pre-Quaternary, Early & Middle Pleistocene, Late Wisconsinan, and Holocene map units; stratigraphy of sediments laid down during the glaciations; and Quaternary geological history. The final section discusses practical applications of the research, including geotechnical conditions, availability of construction materials, and natural hazards.

Book Engineering Geology for Society and Territory Volume 1

Download or read book Engineering Geology for Society and Territory Volume 1 written by Giorgio Lollino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-23 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one out of 8 IAEG XII Congress volumes and deals with climate change affecting different natural processes and environments, such as slope dynamics, water courses, coastal and marine environments, hydrological and littoral processes and permafrost terrain. Due to climate change, major effects are also expected on territorial planning and infrastructure, particularly in extreme climate regions. The volume and its contents aim to analyze the role of engineering geology and the solutions it may offer with respect to the ongoing environmental changes. Contributions regard the modeling of both the factors and the effects induced by climate change. Potential impacts of the climate change on the common practice and routine work of engineering geologists are also analyzed, with particular attention to the risk assessment and mitigation procedures and to the adaptation measures adopted. The Engineering Geology for Society and Territory volumes of the IAEG XII Congress held in Torino from September 15-19, 2014, analyze the dynamic role of engineering geology in our changing world and build on the four main themes of the congress: environment, processes, issues and approaches. The congress topics and subject areas of the 8 IAEG XII Congress volumes are: Climate Change and Engineering Geology. Landslide Processes. River Basins, Reservoir Sedimentation and Water Resources. Marine and Coastal Processes. Urban Geology, Sustainable Planning and Landscape Exploitation. Applied Geology for Major Engineering Projects. Education, Professional Ethics and Public Recognition of Engineering Geology. Preservation of Cultural Heritage.

Book A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines Frances Lake Map Area Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories

Download or read book A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines Frances Lake Map Area Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories written by Arthur S. Dyke and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1990 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Frances Lake map area of the northeastern Canadian Cordillera is crossed by northwest-southeast trending ranges of the Selwyn Mountains. Rock glaciers and neoglacial moraines were mapped during general surficial geological mapping in 1981 and selected features were studied in detail in 1983 from 6 fly camps in the northeastern part of the study area. Lichenometric ages are thought to pertain to time elapsed since stabilization of substrate, roughly corresponding to time elapsed since deposition of moraines and since initial flow of a rock glacier lobe or tread off from its parent apron. The ages of rock glaciers and moraines were assessed through lichenometry, the only dating technique that can be applied to nearly all substrates. This report discusses the lichenometric method used and presents the results from the 6 study areas as well as a regional summary and correlation.

Book Quaternary Geology of St Anthony Blanc Sablon Area Newfoundland and Quebec

Download or read book Quaternary Geology of St Anthony Blanc Sablon Area Newfoundland and Quebec written by D. R. Grant and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study was prompted by a need for data on terrain conditions, soil materials, and glacial transport, which was required for mineral exploration, for the planning of a hydroelectric transmission corridor, for bedrock mapping, for forest inventory, and for land capability studies. A secondary reason for beginning a program of surficial mapping in this part of Newfoundland was the paucity of Quaternary geological information in a key area about which early reports debated the extent of glaciation, and where airphoto reconnaissance revealed significant new glacial and marine formations.
