Book excerpt: The year is 3016 on the continent of Avalon. Roughly, a hundred years have passed since the final battle between the conqueror of West Avalon – the Demon King Abaddon – and the Alliance of Men, Elves, and the other five, dominant races. It is a time of peace and prosperity but even death won’t stop the ambitious. What was once, shall rise again to claim back its throne, setting a new challenge for the inhabitants of the West, but for itself as well. Will the Demon restore his former glory or will he be destroyed yet again, this time for good. Invictus tells the story of the Demon King’s return from ruin and his ambition to restore his power and reclaim his seat as Kishsharum – King of the World.

Download or read book Michael Thomas Poetry 6 written by Michael Thomas and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an accountant, Michael Thomas has had difficulty applying his great knowledge of history, literature and art. But in his poetry, he is free to express his understandings in unbridled creative and playful ways. This, his most recent book of poetry is likely his most creative and playful, as he becomes more versed and practiced every day. Michael is blessed with an extensive vocabulary and the understanding of how to blend words to create effects which are more than the sum of the phrases, like a jazz master plays a saxophone solo. You cannot put what you heard into words, you only know that it left you awed and satisfied when it was over. Such is the sublime nature of high art in all of its varied forms. In Michael Thomas Poetry 6, we have a collection that in totality reaches that sublimity a multitude of times, leaving the reader many memorable experiences
Download or read book Writing the Early Crusades written by Marcus Graham Bull and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2014 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Crusade (1095-1101) was the stimulus for a substantial boom in Western historical writing in the first decades of the twelfth century, beginning with the so-called "eyewitness" accounts of the crusade and extending to numerous second-hand treatments in prose and verse. From the time when many of these accounts were first assembled in printed form by Jacques Bongars in the early seventeenth century, and even more so since their collective appearance in the great nineteenth-century compendium of crusade texts, the Recueil des historiens des croisades, narrative histories have come to be regarded as the single most important resource for the academic study of the early crusade movement. But our understanding of these texts is still far from satisfactory. This ground-breaking volume draws together the work of an international team of scholars. It tackles the disjuncture between the study of the crusades and the study of medieval history-writing, setting the agenda for future research into historical narratives about or inspired by crusading. The basic premise that informs all the papers is that narrative accounts of crusades and analogous texts should not be primarily understood as repositories of data that contribute to a reconstruction of events, but as cultural artefacts that can be interrogated from a wide range of theoretical, methodological and thematic perspectives. MARCUS BULL is Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor of Medieval and Early Modern Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; DAMIEN KEMPF is Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Liverpool.
