Book Terminal Ballistics

Download or read book Terminal Ballistics written by Zvi Rosenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph covers all important issues of terminal ballistics in a comprehensive way combining experimental data, numerical simulations and analytical modeling. It uses a unique approach to numerical simulations as sensitivity measure for the major physical parameters. In the first chapter, the book includes necessary details about the experimental equipment which are used for ballistic tests. The second chapter covers essential features of the codes which are used in recent years all over the world, the Euler vs. Lagrange schemes, meshing techniques etc. The third chapter, devoted to the penetration mechanics of rigid rods, brings the update of modeling in this field. The fourth chapter deals with plate perforation and the fifth chapter deals with the penetration of shaped charge jets and eroding long rods. The last chapter includes several techniques for the disruption and defeating of the main threats in armor design. Throughout the book the authors demonstrate the advantages of the simulation approach in understanding the basis physics behind the investigated phenomena.

Book Notes on Projectile Impact Analyses

Download or read book Notes on Projectile Impact Analyses written by Hao Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents comprehensive experimental, numerical, and theoretical research on projectile impact analysis, such as the rigid projectile penetration/perforation of concrete and metallic targets, and shaped-charge-formed projectile and jet penetrations. Concrete and metal materials are widely used in protective structures in both civil engineering and armored vehicles, such as military fortifications, underground shelters, infantry fighting vehicles, and tanks, which are designed to withstand intentional or accidental impact loadings caused by projectiles and fragments, and the responses of these targets under projectile impact have been a topic of discussion for several decades. Written for researchers and engineers working in the fields of protective structures and high-speed penetration mechanics, the book is also a valuable reference for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students majoring in defense engineering, terminal ballistics and other related fields.

Book Terminal Ballistics in Ordinary Snow

Download or read book Terminal Ballistics in Ordinary Snow written by George K. Swinzow and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The terminal ballistics of various types of snow were investigated experimentally and the resulting data have been researched and tabulated. The experimental procedures, especially designed for this purpose, are described and illustrated. It was concluded that snow is an effective protective material, with measurable and significant capability to attenuate small arms fire and neutralize fragment action. A brief discourse was made into the role of snow-covered terrain in combat, its geography and general properties. (Author).

Book Terminal Ballistics

Download or read book Terminal Ballistics written by Zvi Rosenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively discusses essential aspects of terminal ballistics, combining experimental data, numerical simulations and analytical modeling. Employing a unique approach to numerical simulations as a measure of sensitivity for the major physical parameters, the new edition also includes the following features: new figures to better illustrate the problems discussed; improved explanations for the equation of state of a solid and for the cavity expansion process; new data concerning the Kolsky bar test; and a discussion of analytical modeling for the hole diameter in a thin metallic plate impacted by a shaped charge jet. The section on thick concrete targets penetrated by rigid projectiles has now been expanded to include the latest findings, and two new sections have been added: one on a novel approach to the perforation of thin concrete slabs, and one on testing the failure of thin metallic plates using a hydrodynamic ram.

Book Wound Ballistics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Beat P. Kneubuehl
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2022-08-11
  • ISBN : 3662648555
  • Pages : 538 pages

Download or read book Wound Ballistics written by Beat P. Kneubuehl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-11 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive interdisciplinary reference work for wound ballistics Basics The book begins by providing the necessary basic knowledge about physics, ballistics and ammunition and weapons. Then it describes the behaviour of projectiles in humans and animals (the physics of gunshot injuries) and introduces the experimental simulation of gunshot wounds, including the materials suitable for this purpose. Applications These basic principles can be applied in forensic medicine and criminalistics. The gunshot wound provides some forensic traces and the experimental reconstruction helps to understand the dynamic crime process. The wounding potential of non-lethal weapons can be determined. In emergency and war surgery, injuries caused by small arms bullets and fragments as well as by gas jets (of gas weapons) can be assessed. International conventions could be freed from undefined terms (such as “unnecessary suffering”) with the help of physical quantities. Reference work Detailed tables as e. g. ballistic data of numerous cartridge types, also older ones, material properties, as well as many otherwise difficult to access data and a trilingual glossary of ballistic and technical terms in the languages German, English and French. NEW Wound Ballistics of European Police ammunition References to recent research results Partly coloured illustrations Due to the increase in terrorist and criminal activities worldwide, it is not only members of the armed forces who are affected. Surgeons, forensic doctors, police officers and criminalists also need to know and be able to assess the specifics of gunshot wounds.

Book The U S 37 mm Gun in World War II

Download or read book The U S 37 mm Gun in World War II written by Charles C Roberts and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed history of the most widely used 37-mm gun of WWII and its applications. Developed in response to the 1899 Hague Convention, the 37-mm gun met the restrictions on the size of weapons that could fire explosive shells, yet was also light and lethal enough to be used in battle. After World War I, in which the French Model 1916 37-mm was used extensively, several countries developed or adopted the 37-mm gun. Behind in their development of an antitank gun, the United States relied on the German Pak 36 37-mm design as a basis for development. By the mid 1930s, the US Ordnance Department designed the M3 37-mm gun and M4 carriage resulting in a towed antitank gun, the first antitank gun in the US Army. This gun proved effective at the beginning of World War II, but as German armor protection increased, it could not penetrate the frontal armor of many German tanks and was relegated to lesser roles. However, the gun proved effective against the Japanese tanks and Japanese strong points in the Far East. The US military used the gun on several production and experimental armored vehicles including the M3 Lee Medium Tank, the M3 Stuart Light Tank, the M5 Stuart Light Tank, the M8 Armored Car, the T17E1 Staghound Armored Car and the M3A1E3 Scout Car. The gun was also used on several non-armored vehicles, the P39 Aeracobra, and selected naval vessels. Despite its small size, the US M3 37-mm gun served throughout the war, on many vehicles and performed exactly as designed. Fully illustrated, this is the first complete account of the development and use of the US 37-mm gun in World War II.
